La Seine Café 2022.06.08
What I can do now is to support restaurants by being extra careful. Let's all work together and give it our best shot! Today, I tried to visit a pub for brunch, but it wasn't open at the scheduled time, so I had to give up. I then tried another restaurant, but it was also closed. Maybe their business hours have changed? So, I decided to visit a Showa-style café that I had been eyeing, and I went to La Seine for the first time. It's located along Minami 11-chome Street in Obihiro, right near Masuya Shokudo. The exterior is a dignified two-story building, and the interior is cozy and reminiscent of a Showa-era café. Currently, they have 4 counter seats, 2 tables for 3, and 2 tables for 4. It was 11:15 am when I arrived. I asked for their recommended dish, and I ordered the Ginger Pork Set for 700 yen (tax included). In about 15 minutes, a kind lady brought out the dish and asked if I liked warabi (bracken fern). I said yes. The pork was made with pork loin and a slightly sweet and salty ginger-based sauce, which was delicious. Under the meat, there was pasta cooked like yakisoba. It was a delightful meal. When I complimented the food, the kind lady said, "Thank you for eating neatly. Please come again." Her words made me happy, and I felt like coming back soon. Next time, I'll try the Napolitan. I went to La Seine Cafe for the first time! The name of the restaurant is quite different from its appearance, which has a lot of history. Today, I also had lunch. I ordered the Sukiyaki set meal for 700 yen, which was recommended. There were also a few salarymen dining there, probably because it's located in the city center. After waiting for about 15 minutes, the Sukiyaki set meal arrived. It came with salad, a little bit of Napolitan pasta, and even some okara. It was served with a plate of rice and a cup of miso soup. The Sukiyaki had a quite sweet flavor, reminiscent of the kind served in school lunches. Overall, it was a decent meal. Coffee was served after the meal, which was more like an Americano. Thank you, La Seine Cafe, for the meal!

On my second visit, I had the ginger pork set meal. The ginger sauce had a slightly sweet taste, giving it a mellow flavor. Under the meat, there was a sunny-side-up egg, stir-fried vegetables, and spaghetti, making it seem well-balanced in nutrients. It was a delicious ginger pork set meal with a homely taste. My colleague had the pork cutlet with egg set meal, which also looked delicious, so I might try the pork cutlet bowl next time. Thank you for the meal~(^_^)

Café hopping in Obihiro. This day, I walked to the charming café La Seine located within walking distance from the center of Obihiro city. Although it is very close to my workplace, I hesitated to go in because there was very little information online, but this time I gathered up the courage to step inside. The interior of the café is surprisingly spacious with 4-5 counter seats and around 5 table seats. The mama-san appeared to be quite elderly but had a lovely, gentle, and elegant way of speaking. When I asked for recommendations, she said, "Our homemade hamburg steak is delicious." I wondered if they also use commercial ingredients for some items, considering the variety on the menu. My companion ordered the hamburg steak set, while I chose the hamburg curry. The curry sauce had a rich flavor from simmered beef, fresh carrots, and mushrooms. It was a very ordinary beef curry. The hamburg steak was made with finely ground meat, resulting in a tender texture, and had a good flavor from onions and carrots. It was indeed a delicious recommendation. I slightly regretted not ordering the regular hamburg steak set. The coffee after the meal was also delicious, and I am interested in trying other items on the menu. I must visit again soon to see the very kind mama-san. Thank you for the tasty hamburg steak meal!

The appearance of this cafe has a seasoned Showa era charm. The interior of the shop is also a Showa era space, just like the exterior. They brew coffee with a syphon at the counter. A classic dish that suits this type of cafe would be the Napolitan pasta. The ketchup seasoning is good, and the bacon is crispy and delicious. The presentation is elegant with a high stack and a beautiful plate. I had coffee after the meal. It was syphon coffee, which is rarely seen nowadays. This kind of "performance" is a delightful Showa era touch. The Napolitan and coffee set cost 700 yen. And, as expected of Obihiro, the menu also includes pork bowl. Can we expect a "Showa era cafe pork bowl"? I might just have to revisit this place. Thank you for the meal.
