When you go to Obihiro, you can't miss this place. I wonder if they have what I'm looking for. Here, there are many rare vegetables. I ordered: ◆ Kawanishi Nagaimo x2 1380 yen ◆ Onion 150 yen ◆ Cherry tomatoes 220 yen ◆ Corinchi 98 yen ◆ Cucumber 150 yen ◆ Micro tomatoes 158 yen ◆ Beets 216 yen ◆ Andes 160 yen ◆ Tokachi Red Moon 150 yen Found the Kawanishi Nagaimo I was looking for! Corinchi, a type of pumpkin, is also here. I had it at a izakaya before, and it's surprisingly cheap. The small micro tomatoes are so cute. They probably won't be found in regular supermarkets. And of course, the usual pink potatoes. I was able to harvest some delicious vegetables.

This is a must-visit shop when you come to Obihiro. It is overflowing with local products. The orders were:
- Kanenishi Long Potato (670 yen): A brand of long potato from Obihiro. It is really delicious. In Sapporo, they sell it cut in half, but here they sell a whole one in a bag of wood shavings, and you can choose one from the shavings.
- Toyonishi Cut-off Slices (1080 yen): Obihiro beef is known for this Toyonishi brand. We had it in a beef stroganoff and it was delicious.
- Dorobuta Frankfurter (895 yen): There is a shop in Sapporo as well, but we got sausages here!
- Long Potato Pickles (724 yen): Perfect for drinking. I got some good stuff this time too!

When you arrive in Obihiro, you can't miss this place. Located within the racecourse grounds, they offer ingredients from Tokachi. There are also dining options, including unique dishes like pork bowl smoothies (which I was too scared to order, haha). It's a space where you can enjoy Tokachi. This time, I tried the Tokachi Nagaimo brand, Kawase! They had it! After visiting Shihoro on the way back, I stopped by this place. I ordered the following: Tokachi Nagaimo for 670 yen, pure egg for 280 yen, komatsuna for 220 yen, adzuki sprouts for 240 yen (50% off), fiddleheads for 240 yen, and beets for 325 yen. Tokachi Nagaimo is grown with the fine day-night temperature difference in Tokachi, resulting in a white and sticky texture. Ever since I heard about the farmers producing it, I've been a fan. It's a Tokachi brand that isn't widely available, but you can find it in Sapporo supermarkets for a short time during the autumn harvest. You can enjoy it as is without cutting it here! Before checking into the hotel, I bought fiddleheads and beets as the sun started to set. They also sell Tokachi Mash, which you often see in supermarkets, at a reasonable price. I love Tokachi's agricultural products. This is a must-visit place for me. (╹◡╹)

This is a tourist exchange base located in Obihiro City, in the Tokachi district, which was the setting for the NHK morning drama "Natsuzora" starring Suzu Hirose. Inside "Tokachi Village," there is a direct market where you can enjoy the famous Ban'ei Horse Racing at the Obihiro Racecourse, a free horse information museum, and a café. Also, there is a handmade bread shop called "Jun & Maki" near the Obihiro Train Station. I got the last chikuwa bread, which is said to have originated in Sapporo. Different bakeries have their own unique twists on this bread, and this one had a sauce and bonito flakes version, which was very popular among people from Kansai. I had it at my accommodation, and the texture was so fluffy that I regretted not buying more bread. Additionally, I purchased some extra thick dried daikon radish from Tokachi Sorabetsu Village. The thickness caught my attention, and I am looking forward to seeing how the flavor seeps into it when I cook it.

When I visited Obihiro for train photography and garden tours, I stopped by to buy some souvenirs. It was around 11:20 am on a weekday. The store is located within the grounds of the Obihiro Horse Racecourse (Ban'ei Horse Racecourse). It is part of the tourist complex facility called Tokachi Village. If you go by car, you can use the spacious parking lot of the Obihiro Racecourse. The store is a box-shaped single-story building with prominent brick-colored walls. There were many flags in front of the entrance. The inside of the store is quite spacious. It had a casual and bright atmosphere. Various Tokachi specialty products (food) such as vegetables, beans, meat, processed meat, dairy products, alcoholic beverages, seasonings, retort foods, sweets, bread, etc., were lined up. It was exciting! When I visited, there were about 5-6 other customers besides us. They were middle-aged and elderly couples or families, all seemed like tourists. I bought "Tokachi Mash Brown (200g) for 308 yen" from Kamata Shoji Co., Ltd., and "Shirahana Beans Amanatto (89g) for 450 yen" and "Mame Nakama Soy Flavor (80g) for 361 yen" from Okajodohompo. Here are my thoughts on each item:
Tokachi Mash Brown: There were around 20 unevenly sized brown mushrooms in the pack. I tried slicing them thinly for salad and quartering them for spaghetti or cream stew. The salad and spaghetti were the best. Cooking them simply brings out the flavor of the mushrooms. I felt the flavor and richness more than regular white mushrooms.
Shirahana Beans Amanatto: It's a traditional sweetened beans with plenty of sugar coating. They were cooked soft with a slight sticky texture. It's a bit sweet, but you can still taste the bean flavor. It paired well with hot roasted green tea.
Mame Nakama Soy Flavor: These are soybeans flavored with soy sauce after roasting. They have a crispy and crunchy texture with a strong aroma. The seasoning flavor is subtle, allowing the soybean flavor to stand out. I really liked this one.
This store has a variety of Tokachi specialty products, mainly food items. If you want to buy Tokachi souvenirs, this is the place to go!

I visited this shop near the Ban'ei Horse Racing in Obihiro, even though I'm not into horse racing. They have fresh Hokkaido vegetables and souvenirs, so it's nice to stop by for some shopping after sightseeing.

This is a day trip bus tour in September 2017. My husband actively chose the "Tokachi Sweets Story" tour to support Tokachi, which was affected by a typhoon last year. We had lunch at the Hotel Nikko Northland Obihiro, where we had a Chinese buffet and ate to our heart's content. The tour had a subtitle, "10 Fun Points in Tokachi," and one of them was shopping for Tokachi-produced vegetables and other products. We visited a facility within the Obihiro Racecourse grounds where a race was taking place that day. We didn't have much time to stay, but we enjoyed looking around and shopping. I found some black beans and dried soba noodles from Shintoku Town which I bought. There was also a section where we could pack "non-standard" edamame in a bag, which my husband and I enjoyed doing. We spent over an hour there and wished we had more time, but we had to leave around the time the race was starting. It was a sweets tour after all, but I would have liked to see the race as well.

When you visit Obihiro, you must try the local ingredients such as Shadow Queen and Tokachi Mash. I bought colorful carrots which were new to me. I will use arugula and beets for smoothies. Obihiro vegetables are the best!

This is Obihiro. I've been here many times! "Tokachi Village" Yes, it's the place at the Obihiro Racecourse. (^-^)/ It's interesting because they have a variety of Tokachi specialty products. I like to browse around and shop. (laughs) But this time, I ended up only buying vegetables. ^^;
- Memuro-grown corn "Gold Rush" Freshness at its best! It's picked in the morning! Of course, I eat it as soon as I get home! Leave a thin layer of skin, microwave for a few seconds, and it's ready! (^-^)/ It's juicy and sweet! It's like overflowing corn juice! It's so delicious! (о´∀`о)ノ
- Memuro-grown edamame This one too, eat it on the same day! Did you boil it? The taste of the beans is good. Yes, it has that fresh green taste! Uh-oh! It's time for another beer! ^^; It's really a happy thing to be able to enjoy fresh vegetables! (*^ー^)ノ♪

I visited during summer vacation in July 2016. Whenever I visit Obihiro, I always make sure to stop by here. This local market is the best in the Tokachi region, in my opinion. While there are not many sweets, you can find everything from vegetables to processed foods, all of which are specialties of the Tokachi region. Honestly, I think you can get all your souvenirs in just this one place. If you time it right, you can also enjoy ban'ei horse racing at the nearby Obihiro Racecourse, where there are also dining options available, making it possible to spend a whole day here.

I visited this shop on a Sunday in April during a solo trip to Obihiro, after watching ban'ei horse racing. Initially, I was just planning to look around, but decided to buy some pumpkin that was harvested and stored last year, as well as jajimilk and black sugar kinako bread. When I returned to my hotel, I had the bread and milk, and found the milk to be rich and the kinako to have just the right amount of sweetness. When I got home, I cooked the pumpkin and found it to be sweeter than what I usually eat. Highly recommended!
