Today, I checked out a restaurant based on the reviews of Captain Haru, whom I admire. It's a soup curry specialty shop that I decided to visit for the first time, even though I'm not a fan of spicy food. The location is along Midoridori Street, on the east side of Nishi Obihiro Park. The exterior is a prefabricated wood design in brown. Inside, the shop is cozy with a U-shaped counter seating for 9 tables and two 4-seat table seats. It was 11:30 am when I arrived, and there were already 3 groups of customers ahead of me, with more customers coming in, resulting in a 5-minute wait. It's a popular place, indeed. Some customers were opting for takeout, while others were placing orders over the phone for takeout as well.
I ordered Creamy Shrimp Soup for 110 yen (tax included), Manly Meat-eater Curry for 1,550 yen (tax included), spiciness level 1, and topping with shrimp for 220 yen (tax included). The rice portion was normal. The total came to 1,880 yen (tax included). The order was ready in about 22 minutes. The curry contained chicken leg, pork, hamburger, sausage, carrots, eggplant, bell peppers, broccoli, potatoes, baby corn, and quail eggs, with shrimp as a topping. The portion of ingredients and soup was generous compared to other places. The aroma of spices and dashi (broth) was delightful. The shrimp flavor was rich, and the creamy texture was different from using regular cream or milk. It felt more like soy milk. The curry had a rich taste and was incredibly delicious. The hamburger was tender, the pork was juicy, and the chicken leg was well-cooked. The vegetables were large and plentiful, making the dish very satisfying.
Although I haven't tried many types of soup curry before, this was the most delicious one I've ever had. I regret not trying soup curry earlier. I understand now why the place is always crowded. Next time, I will come back to try the seafood version. Thank you for the delicious meal.
