I visited the restaurant on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 8:00 PM and sat at the counter. The draft beer I had was Sapporo Classic, which was very delicious! The appetizer was pickled daikon radish and simmered fish bones. The fish bones were tender and delicious. Here are my thoughts on the dishes I ordered:
- Salted Cucumber: Refreshing and crunchy, seasoned with salted kelp, very tasty.
- Crab Cream Croquette: Crispy coating with creamy filling, very delicious.
- Yakitori (chicken skewers): Grilled over charcoal, had a nice smoky flavor and was delicious.
- Mackerel Vinegared: Mackerel marinated in vinegar broth, sour and salty, which I personally love, very delicious.
- Sujiko Rice Ball, Miso Soup: The sujiko rice ball had a sweet and salty flavor, and the rice was delicious and well-formed. The miso soup was also tasty.
I also ordered smelt, which was just average. Overall, the food and drinks were delicious, and I was very satisfied. Thank you for the meal!

At the Yunokawa Onsen tram stop, you can easily find the restaurant with a bright red lantern even if you're not familiar with the area. There is also a red lantern in my hometown of Kushiro. I wonder if there is a connection? Is it a chain restaurant? Anyway, by 6:30 in the evening, several groups of customers had already arrived at the restaurant. It seems that seafood dishes are their specialty. The "hokke" and "live squid" were particularly delicious, especially the live squid which was still moving and very fresh. The prices are a bit on the higher side for a casual izakaya.

I got off at Yunokawa Onsen Station and visited the izakaya "Akachouchin Yunokawa Branch" located about a 1-minute walk away. It's a restaurant where you can enjoy fresh seafood dishes. Many people visit after using Yunokawa Onsen, so it's always bustling with customers. In addition to the regular 130 seats, there are 5 sunken kotatsu rooms, 1 private room, and a private room on the 2nd floor (for banquets). This time, I visited for dinner. First, I ordered the following:
- Sashimi of Hokkigai: The Hokkigai used is shiny and even has the tendon, which is a delight for seafood lovers! The soy sauce for sashimi on the table is quite sweet, reminiscent of Kyushu soy sauce. They might be using the soy sauce called "kombu soy sauce" sold in the store. It's delicious when mixed with plenty of wasabi, creating a sweet and savory taste.
- Grilled Shishamo with salt: The Shishamo used is from Mukawa and is tender with a strong umami flavor, very delicious!
- Pork skewers: The salt and pepper seasoning on the pork skewers is strong, making it perfect for enjoying with beer.
- Squid sashimi: This squid sashimi is best enjoyed with plenty of ginger. It goes well with the sweet and savory soy sauce!
I also tried various dishes like "Shiokara" and "Nankotsu skewers", and everything was delicious. There were still many dishes I wanted to try, but that's it for today! The staff were friendly, so I definitely want to come back to eat again. I recommend it to those who want to enjoy seafood after using Yunokawa Onsen or while drinking alcohol!

I visited in August 2018 and realized that they also serve sushi. I had ramen as a finishing touch and now I'm full. Akachochin Yunokawa Branch

This is a large store near the Yunokawa Onsen tram stop. We stopped by on our way to the airport. They have a wide variety of seafood and izakaya dishes, and the prices are reasonable. The squid sashimi was small but fresh, with firm flesh and surprisingly delicious for the price. The scallop butter had plenty of butter in a rich soup with large scallops, providing a satisfying meal. The bill was also very reasonable, making for a fully satisfying dinner.

The hotel staff at Yunokawa Onsen recommended a local izakaya. The atmosphere matches its name, and it's great that they offer set meals for people who prefer rice. While it may not be mind-blowing with a Hokkaido perspective, the food is delicious.

Visited on January 11, 2017. The building was rebuilt about 3 years ago and I have visited a few times since then. I recommend trying the "Support Set" they offer in the winter. It includes 2 beers and 3 appetizers for only 1200 yen, which is a great deal. I visited on July 11, 2013 during a business trip. It's an izakaya in Yunokawa Onsen town, quite popular among locals and tourists. They have a variety of dishes, including seafood and grilled items. There is even a tank with live squid swimming inside. I went to a restaurant called Temujin, which is known for its Genghis Khan dishes, from Akachochin, but even though I ordered the same Sapporo Classic beer, it tasted completely different. At Akachochin, the draft beer tasted like happoshu. It was a rare experience to taste a draft beer that didn't taste like draft beer. After taking a sip, I decided to stop drinking here and move on to the next place. The squid sashimi had an okay portion size, but the ginger tasted watery and the freshness and flavor were just average. The appetizer consisted of boiled tuna, imitation crab, edamame, macaroni, onion slices, and shimeji mushrooms mixed in mayonnaise. The taste was good, but the portion was elegant, like they were cleverly using leftovers from the previous day. I wanted to give the food a fair evaluation, but the disappointing draft beer made it hard to enjoy the meal, and I found myself not fully present, already thinking about moving on to the next place. The customer service was relatively good, but I had concerns about the restaurant's policies. ☆☆☆ Coming Soon ☆☆☆ I won't be coming back, but it seems like I've learned a valuable lesson.

I stayed at a budget hotel in Yunokawa Onsen in Hakodate, and the second place I visited was Akachochin Yukawa-ten. It is probably the largest izakaya in this area, and the inside was quite crowded with tourists and locals. Since there were two of us, we were seated at the counter and ordered tofu salad, squid shiokara, and Baron butter. The kitchen seemed to have designated roles for grilling, frying, and stir-frying, as our ordered dishes came out quickly. The tofu salad consisted of sunny lettuce, regular lettuce, silk tofu, tomato, and fried onions with a Japanese-style dressing. It had a variety of textures - crispy, crunchy, and moist - and was delicious. The squid shiokara was ordered for the Baron butter, which took a bit of time as the Baron potato was grilled over charcoal. It came with a small amount of shiokara, but I added extra shiokara and ichimi pepper on top of the Baron butter. Normally, I eat make-in potatoes boiled, but make-in potatoes with butter and shiokara is a must-try. Thank you for the meal.

After bathing at Yunokawa Onsen, we visited without a reservation! The location is a 30-second walk from the streetcar stop "Yunokawa Onsen." You can also see a foot bath! The first floor has a hearth. This time, we were guided to a purely Japanese-style second-floor tatami room. There are posters of enka singers on the staircase walls. Of course, there is also Kitasan, the famous horse in the horse racing world, and the singer Kiyoshi Hikawa. The cheeky university student also cheers with a "Sapporo Classic draft beer"♪ Hokkaido is all about Sapporo Beer. A drink after a bath is blissful. \(^^)/The food was mostly ordered by my daughter. "Order what you want to eat" ← That's a phrase I've heard from my dad! I'm also a dad (^_^;) The number one dish of the day was the "live button shrimp." It was a bit small, but the texture of the meat was excellent. I remember it was around 200 yen per shrimp. The squid from the previous day, and the shrimp today... delicious♪ The other dishes were average. I switched to draft beer and highballs. The waiter is quick on his feet! Being young is wonderful. Today's recommendation is also clearly stated by the waiter. He's not a half-hearted part-timer! It was a fun time drinking with my daughter on the last night in Hakodate. We took the streetcar and walked back... Exhausted(--;) Fell asleep immediately♪

☆2011.12.23 (Fri.) Visit☆ After enjoying the hot springs at Nishiki Onsen, we bought some snacks, checked into the hotel early, and took a nap. After refreshing ourselves, we headed to Akachouchin in Yunokawa Onsen for dinner. As the name suggests, the bright red lanterns outside caught our attention. The lively atmosphere inside with a counter and raised seating area made us excited about what to order. The menu included sashimi, pickled dishes, salted fish roe, edamame, butter-grilled dishes, salads, fried foods, gratin, rice dishes, skewers, tempura, Chinese dishes, and desserts. We started with draft beer and a seafood pasta salad appetizer. Our choice for the night was fresh squid, which was skillfully prepared right in front of us. The squid was delicious with a sweet taste and a nice texture. We also tried local sake and other dishes like deep-fried octopus, crab legs, and bacon-wrapped potatoes. Everything was delicious and we had a great time at Akachouchin.

I was born as the son of a fisherman in my hometown, and since I was a child, I have been eating live seafood such as fish. In the morning, my mother would be in the kitchen, cutting up live squid, slicing the heads and tails of live fish, and removing the insides, still twitching... It was pitiful even as a child, and I couldn't bring myself to eat it. In the fall, a bowl full of salmon roe would be served morning, noon, and night. I couldn't stand it anymore at that time, but now I strangely have an intense craving for it. This restaurant fulfills that craving perfectly with its impeccable freshness. The variety of ingredients that can only be found locally is abundant. When I was single, I often sat at the counter seat, where a lively and friendly woman with a headband would cook fish right in front of me... Absolutely delicious. When I was twenty years old, my girlfriend and I would enjoy the freshness at the counter seat. Even now, with my family of four (including my girlfriend from back then), there would be cheers at the suggestion of going to "Akachochin" today. Despite my thinning hair, I still prioritize freshness. As a local resident, I am grateful for the opportunity to frequent "Akachochin."
