There is an old izakaya in Obihiro!! As the name suggests, you can eat Akita's local cuisine at this restaurant!! Junsai is so cheap and delicious, and the wakiritanpo nabe was also tasty. There are about three types of nabe available, so this place might be good when you want to eat nabe!! When it comes to nabe in Obihiro, I could only think of a certain famous nabe restaurant, but this place is now a contender!! The other menu items are also good, and even though it has been around for a long time, I had never been there before. I'm glad I came to check it out as a new discovery late in the game.

This is probably the only restaurant in Obihiro where you can enjoy Akita's specialty dish, kiritanpo. They offer dishes like kiritanpo nabe with Hinaidori chicken and kamameshi. You can easily spot the restaurant with its eye-catching red namahage sign. It is located at the corner after passing by the closed Fujimaru Building East Exit at the end of last month. I visited because there were no recent reviews, even though I remember it being very delicious. I love kiritanpo so much that I even make damakko (non-grilled kiritanpo rice balls) at home. The lack of reviews may be due to the decrease in reservations for banquets and events during the pandemic. The restaurant's main menu is hot pot dishes, making it even more challenging in spring and summer. I tried some non-hot pot dishes as appetizers. The kiritanpo rolled with meat and tempura was delicious, although the pickled ginger inside was a bit too spicy. The assorted mountain vegetable tempura was also tasty but the portion was small. The handmade gyoza had a lot of pickled ginger, making it too spicy. The gibasa, a slimy mountain vegetable, had a great texture. The shottsuru ramen with Hinaidori chicken and fish sauce had a clear soup but lacked in ingredients. It was satisfying for me, but others might find it lacking. The soup was delicious and I would even order it separately. I want to go back to try the kiritanpo nabe in the winter. I wonder what has become of that street now that the lights of Fujimaru have gone out. I want to go back to check it out.

The sake in Japan is delicious! The evening started off a bit disappointing as the hot pot we had reserved for our company meeting was not ordered, but the appetizers were all delicious. The Hatahata meshi sushi was light and tasty, with a natural flavor. The gyoza and yakitori were also quite delicious. The kitakita was easy to eat with a light broth. The sake from Akita was especially delicious. It was rare to see only Akita brands in a Hokkaido restaurant. It made me realize that sake from Tohoku is really strong. We didn't have all-you-can-drink, but we finished 3 bottles of sake among 6 people, costing about 6000 yen per person. The atmosphere was relaxed and the private rooms make it suitable for business dinners or year-end parties. The staff's service was a bit clumsy.

Crying children are not here~~ Yes, outside the shop, a large Namahage appears ominously in the darkness. Once you pass under the Namahage's noren, a bit of courage is needed, but once inside, you are welcomed with a warm and friendly atmosphere. I sat at the counter, and in the raised tatami area, there was a family with children, and the private rooms separated by sliding doors looked cozy. The second floor seemed lively with a party going on. I ordered the "damako soup" for 1500 yen, as recommended on a TV show. While snacking on the simmered flounder served as an appetizer, I quenched my thirst with a draft beer as I waited for the dish to be prepared. Damako is made from rice like kirintampo, but instead of being grilled, it is rolled into ball shapes. The soup was filled with chicken, Chinese cabbage, tofu, chrysanthemum greens, shimeji mushrooms, konjac, and green onions. The portion was large, almost like having two servings of rice while eating the hot pot. The damako looked like sweet potatoes. I was full just from the damako soup this time, but I look forward to coming back with at least two people to share the damako soup and try other delicious-looking dishes next time. Thank you for the meal. Izakaya Akita Obihiro City Nishi 2-jo Minami 7-20 About a 10-minute walk from Obihiro Station.

When it gets cold, I always crave hot pot - is it because of my age? Every year, from autumn to winter, I always go to Akita for their delicious kiritanpo hot pot. Today, I went with two friends. We always order the same dishes - kiritanpo hot pot with Hinai-jidori chicken, mushroom vinegar, yakitori, and maybe some fish. But the specialty here is definitely the kiritanpo hot pot. The broth has a deep and rich flavor that keeps you coming back for more. It might not be for everyone, but it's perfect for warming up from the inside out in the upcoming season.

Due to the cold weather every day, I visited Akita with my companion to enjoy some kiritanpo hot pot. The interior of the restaurant had a Akita vibe to it. We were seated in a private room on the second floor. It was a bit chilly, but once we started eating the hot pot, it felt just right. We ordered the kiritanpo hot pot with Hinai-jidori chicken for 2,100 yen, smoked herring for 315 yen, tuna sashimi for 1,050 yen (a bit pricey!), chicken skewers for 378 yen, and meatballs for 399 yen. I had a Kirin Ichiban beer for 578 yen. The appetizer was a soup with vegetables, mushrooms, and scallops. The kiritanpo hot pot had a nice chewy texture from the Hinai-jidori chicken and the bamboo shoots and shepherd's purse were delicious. The smoked herring had a nice smoky flavor that went well with the beer. We also ordered some sashimi and grilled dishes, which were average. We wanted to order the Inaniwa udon for dessert, but it was busy and would take some time, so we asked for rice with green onion and raw egg instead. After finishing the hot pot and the rice, we were quite full. If you're not a big eater, one serving of hot pot should be enough. Overall, I recommend trying the kiritanpo hot pot at this restaurant. Thank you for the meal!

This place seems to mainly serve kiritanpo hot pot, but their mountain vegetables and sashimi are also delicious. The prices are a bit higher than chain izakayas, but trying Akita cuisine once in a while is nice. The clientele is mostly salarymen and the atmosphere feels somewhat urban. When dining with a large group, going for the course menu is more cost-effective.

In front of Obihiro Station, if you go straight on 2nd Street past Fujimaru Department Store, you will see a large sign for "Namahage" on your right. As the name suggests, the recommended dish here is the "kiritanpo" hot pot served by the owner from Akita. You may not find another place in Obihiro where you can try this dish. You can also have parties in the second floor tatami room, and they can arrange it for you. There is also a wide selection of Akita sake available, and you can enjoy a relaxing drink at the counter on the first floor.

I don't remember exactly what I ate because it was a while ago, but I was really impressed by Akita's pickled 'iburi gakko'. It has a smoky flavor like smoked pickles, which was very delicious. Also, when it comes to Akita, you think of sake. I ordered the most expensive sake at the restaurant, but it was sold out, so I ended up drinking the second most expensive one (I forgot the name...). It was delicious and easy to drink, so I ended up having three bottles. If you have the chance, definitely try pairing Japanese sake with iburi gakko.
