One day, I heard that Gusan had finally reopened after the end of the pandemic, so I decided to pay a visit. This place is in the same APR group as Ezo-ya! It seems like it has been around for quite some time, but I had never heard of it before, so I was curious to see what kind of place it was. The interior of the restaurant is quite interestingly designed. You first climb up the stairs to the second floor, where there is a counter. Then there are the third and fourth floors, with several four-person table seats. The multiple flights of stairs can be a bit tricky for those who are a bit tipsy, so be careful! The all-you-can-drink menu offers Asahi beer and Nikka whiskey for 2000 yen, with the option to add premium rare sake for an additional 500 yen. Surprisingly, there are over 10 types of sake available for the 2000 yen price, including Kubota Senju and Dassai. Other options include Hokkaido Katsu, Fukushi, Kido, Akabu, Kunimare, Jyuichishu, Niseko, and more. I forgot to take a photo, sorry about that. But having so many sake options for 2000 yen is quite rare, so I was pleasantly surprised. As I enjoyed a beer, I decided on some food. Interestingly, this place does not serve complimentary appetizers. For those who miss having appetizers, there is an option for an appetizer platter for 600 yen (a speedy menu item), but I opted for the White Squid Shio-Kara instead. What is white shio-kara, you ask? I'm not even sure what defines shio-kara... As for the food, I ordered a sashimi platter with seven types of seafood, tsukune (chicken meatballs) and cheese tsukune, and some meat gyoza for good measure! The White Squid Shio-Kara arrived promptly and it was delicious. It had the taste of shio-kara without the usual fishy smell, making it quite refined and enjoyable. Next came the tsukune, even before the sashimi! I tried both the regular and cheese tsukune, and they were delicious! Fluffy and flavorful, with the cheese tsukune tasting like a cheeseburger. Definitely worth the price. The sashimi platter arrived soon after, and I noticed there were more than seven pieces... (laughs) Thank you for the extra servings! The sashimi was all delicious. I was surprised to find Kinmedai sashimi on the platter, as well as Uni! It's the best time of year for Uni. The shimesaba (marinated mackerel) was also surprisingly tasty! I heard that one of Gusan's specialties is their serious Oyster Fry, which can be ordered starting from one piece. Since my companion couldn't eat oysters, I decided to have the Oyster Fry myself. You can choose between sauce and tartar sauce, and I went with tartar sauce! And there it was, the Oyster Fry... It was huge!!! I've never seen such a big Oyster Fry before. It seems they use L-size oysters. The taste was rich, plump, and definitely not what you would expect from summer oysters. I was skeptical about how good it would be before trying it, but I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. And when I posted a picture of the Oyster Fry on social media... I received a service of fresh oysters! I also had the fresh oysters, but I forgot to take a photo. The oysters were also delicious, just like the Oyster Fry. I wonder if it's okay to have such big oysters for 300 yen... really... (laughs) I wanted to have some sake, but for some reason, a really amazing sake that wasn't on the menu was brought out... Anyway, it seems like there are such sake options available here (see photo). Sometimes the sake listed on the menu may not be available, so you might get something like this instead? Oh, and I also had a Salt Lemon Sour, which was delicious. It's made with homemade salted lemon. It had a much more lemony flavor compared to the frozen lemon sours you might find elsewhere. For those who aren't fans of sake, a Lemon Sour is also a good choice. I haven't finished eating yet...
