A new seafood restaurant has opened in the attractive Tora-Hashi-Hama area of Shiraoi Town, known for its seafood and hot springs. The restaurant is located along the national highway, right in front of the beach, in a long log house that used to house a soup curry restaurant for a long time. The highlight is the refreshing and dynamic view of the vast Pacific Ocean at Tora-Hashi-Hama that can be seen from the long counter seats. The menu mainly features seafood bowls, with options like tempura bowls and hokki curry also available. Personally, I think the spot-like menu items, such as the "Today's Recommendation," offer good value. The scallop sashimi is priced at 600 yen, set meals at 200 yen, and extra rice at 150 yen, totaling 950 yen. The scallops are likely from the famous scallop-producing region of southern Hokkaido, with a fresh and fibrous texture that bursts with the unique umami and sweetness of scallops when chewed. The liver and adductor muscles are also firmly attached, allowing for a variety of flavors and textures to be enjoyed. The liver and adductor muscles are particularly affected by freshness, but these were perfect. When it comes to scallops, the scallops from the Sarufutsu area in eastern Hokkaido have a strong texture due to being buffeted by the rough waves of the Okhotsk Sea, resulting in a sharp umami flavor, while the scallops from the southern Hokkaido's Funka Bay area grow in a calm current rich in plankton, giving them a soft texture and gentle umami and sweetness. This is my personal opinion. The miso soup is delicious with the flavor of shrimp heads. The rice is firm and not well-cooked, which needs improvement. The quality of the rice can make or break the seafood experience. Seafood dishes are slightly softer and more impressive, leading to better sales. The cost-effectiveness of the menu items I tried this time was satisfying. In the Shiraoi area, there are many restaurants that serve "Shiraoi beef," but surprisingly few seafood restaurants, despite the excellent local seafood. It is important for them to work hard to attract tourists, including inbound tourists. Seafood bowls and other dishes are priced accordingly, so I cannot evaluate them without knowing the contents, but the dual-wheel menu approach with the reasonably priced menu items I tried this time will help attract local customers and ensure the survival of this restaurant. By the way, Tora-Hashi-Hama and the neighboring town of Noboribetsu are particularly known for their hairy crabs, sweet shrimp, and Matsukawa flounder, so why not consider ordering them depending on the season?
