"Gyutan Yaki Sendai Hemmi" is a nationwide chain of Sendai Gyutan Yaki restaurants. There are about 30 stores from Sapporo in the north to Fukuoka in Kyushu in the south. I visited with my usual companion for lunch. This store is located in the Susukino area of Chuo-ku, Sapporo, inside the Sapporo underground shopping street Port Town. Please check the exact location of the restaurant on Tabelog. I visited around 11 a.m. on a weekday. There was one customer in front and several customers behind. The interior of the store is a counter seat in the shape of a "L". Of course, I sat at the counter seat. I ordered the "Lunch Premium Thick Cut Gyutan Yaki Set Meal for 1950 yen". My usual companion ordered the "Lunch Ladies Set Meal for 1280 yen". After waiting for 8 minutes, the two "Lunch Gyutan Set Meals" appeared. The thick and large, tender gyutan is a delight. There is no unique smell of gyutan. It is lightly seasoned with salt and pepper, bringing out the flavor of the gyutan. The "Lunch Ladies Set Meal" is a healthy and enjoyable lunch set meal. Both the "Premium Thick Cut Gyutan Yaki" and the "Top Gyutan Yaki" can be enjoyed by my usual companion who is not a fan of gyutan. We both refrained from having seconds of the barley rice. It seems like we'll order the same thing next time. It was delicious, thank you for the meal.

Sometimes coming home after 11 pm doesn't make me tired, but I end up drinking less alcohol before bed (laughs). And my body clock wakes me up at 4 am, followed by a headache... The day before yesterday, I ate spaghetti at a vegetable spaghetti restaurant in Sapporo Station's underground mall, and then found another restaurant run by the same company online. I was eager to visit, so I went (laughs). This restaurant only has two locations in Sapporo - one in Paul Town in the underground mall and another in Atsubetsu Minami or Uenohoro. The Paul Town location is right in the underground mall, not far from Susukino. I arrived around 11:30 am. The interior of the restaurant is quite spacious, with only counter seats. The back wall is actually a mirror (laughs). The kitchen is visible from the counter. There were two women already there, one of whom arrived just before me. One of them ordered "1.5 servings of beef tongue yakitori." I ordered the "Upper Tongue Yakitori 1 serving for 1,600 yen." It's cheaper compared to the beef tongue set meal I had last year in a nearby building's basement, which was 2,100 yen. The beer is also reasonably priced at 550 yen for a medium-sized glass. But let's resist the urge to drink (´；ω；｀). While waiting, two groups of four customers arrived, one ordering "1.5 servings of beef tongue yakitori" and the other ordering "1.5 servings of green onion salt lemon beef tongue yakitori." Everyone seems to love ordering 1.5 servings (laughs). The tail soup and grated yam arrived in 4 minutes, followed by the Upper Tongue Yakitori in 2 minutes. The food was served within 6 minutes of ordering, which felt quite fast (laughs). The light salt-flavored tail soup was delicious and hot. The thick beef tongue had a good texture. The beef tongue is so thick that even the women were chewing it thoroughly (laughs). And they were sipping on their medium-sized glasses of beer while chewing... How nice (laughs). The free extra serving of barley rice was great too. Adding grated yam made it even more delicious (laughs). I might try the salted green onion lemon version next time, even if it's just for one person (laughs). Thank you for the meal.

I visited for lunch. It's been about a year since I last came here. This time, I ordered the "Jou Tan-yaki 120g". It came with barley rice, grated yam, pickles, and oxtail soup. The Jou Tan was really delicious (^-^) 120g wasn't enough for me though (^_^;) The oxtail soup was also delicious. Located near Paul Town, I had a sudden craving for beef tongue and decided to stop by. The beef tongue was tender and delicious, especially when paired with the barley rice. We stopped by on our way from the Sapporo Snow Festival venue to the Susukino venue. I had the Ladies' Set Meal, while my husband had the Grilled Tongue and Beef Tendon Stew Set Meal. The grated yam that came first made me laugh unintentionally! Next, a large plate with rice topped with grilled tongue and beef tail soup was served. Let's dig in. The Ladies' Set Meal came with tofu salad and grilled tongue, just the right amount. The tongue had a good thickness, chewy yet tender and delicious. My husband's beef tendon stew was dangerously bubbling away. It was tender and tasty. I found out that this restaurant has branches all over the country. Thank you for the meal.

I finally decided to try this restaurant that I've been curious about for a while. I ordered the Service Gyutan Set Meal for 1,100 yen. It took a bit of time from ordering to being served because they cook it after you order. It seems like they don't use charcoal for grilling. First, they served me oxtail soup and grated yam. A little later, they brought out barley rice and gyutan (beef tongue). The plate had gyutan slices, top tongue, pickles, and miso for dipping. They recommend eating the gyutan with miso on top. The top tongue was a bit thick, while the slices were thin. It felt a bit tough. I mixed the freshly cooked barley rice with the grated yam to make a tasty combination. The restaurant only had counter seats, with a male cook and a female cashier. I hadn't decided what to eat, but I ordered the "Negi Shio Lemon Gyutan Yaki" that caught my eye on the menu. I tried to order a non-alcoholic beer, but was told they didn't have it. I wish they had mentioned that on the menu. They have a self-serve system for tea and water. After a short wait with tea, the food was ready. The side dish had plenty of green onions. The beef tongue with lots of green onions and lemon was light yet flavorful! The oxtail soup that came with the set was light but had a nice richness. The beef soboro on top of the rice was delicious. However, the impact of beef tongue I had at another restaurant in Sendai was too strong, so I rated this one a bit lower this time. Maybe I should have ordered the thick-cut beef tongue.

Today, I ordered the Gyutan Yaki (beef tongue) set meal. The lunch was a spicy soup curry, so this gentle dish is perfect for my stomach. It arrived in about 5 minutes. The thick slices looked appetizing and the aroma was amazing. I tried it as it is first. Wow! The juicy and fatty Gyutan was delicious! Sprinkling salt enhanced the flavor even more. The rice was just right, enhancing the taste of the Gyutan. Before I knew it, I had finished my meal and even had seconds of rice. Gyutan is truly delicious. I had a satisfying dinner. We chatted while waiting, so I didn't notice how long it took, but they prepared the dishes after we placed our order. The set meal included beef tongue, simmered tendon, pickles, grated yam, oxtail soup, and a sprinkle of dried bonito and burdock root. I tried the soup first. It was a bit salty for my taste. Next, I tried the pickles with the simmered tendon. The tendon was incredibly tender and delicious. The pickled cabbage was refreshing. Then, I tried a bite of the beef tongue. It was thick and had a nice crunch. It was delicious. When you chew it, the umami flavor comes out. It was not too fatty, more on the lighter side. I was worried about finishing the rice, but I managed to eat it all. The price was 1,650 yen, which is reasonable considering it's beef tongue. The staff was very kind and made us feel warm. Due to the state of emergency, alcohol couldn't be ordered, so I decided to challenge myself with two types of tongue with rice. First, the beef tongue. Delicious, but still feels a bit thin. The premium tongue, on the other hand, was very delicious. It has a good thickness, making it tastier as you chew. So, even though it's a bit more expensive, the premium tongue is better. There's also a higher grade option, but I might try that when I have more budget. By the way, the topping on the rice is like furikake, not the common spicy miso. I don't like spicy food, so this was better for me, but I would appreciate it if they could put a bit more on it.
