I visited in the morning. It's located in Irifune-cho, at Irifune Banya. It's actually the Irifune branch of the Hakodate City Fisheries Cooperative. The location is a bit hard to describe, but it's a street closer to the sea on the lower side of the road leading to the Foreigners' Cemetery. You have to pass through a very narrow road. Look for a flag standing nearby, and you'll know you're close. Inside, you take off your shoes and put on slippers. It was in the morning, but the availability of dishes can be influenced by the day's catch, so I checked the restaurant's blog beforehand. Sometimes they sell out early in the morning. I asked the staff when I came out, and it was fine. The store is on the second floor, so I climbed the stairs. Inside, it has a traditional atmosphere like a local community center. There's a long table, and you can choose to sit on cushions or chairs. I chose a chair. I ordered the squid sashimi set meal. It costs 1500 yen. It was served quickly. The set meal includes squid sashimi, squid pieces, steamed potatoes, salted fish roe, pickles, rice, and miso soup. It was delicious. The squid was fresh and had a crunchy texture. The squid pieces were also tasty. The special soy sauce for the squid sashimi was unique, so I bought a bottle for 340 yen. There were about four groups of customers, and from their conversations, it seemed like not all of them were locals. Two groups seemed to be from Kansai. I saw the license plates of their cars, and they seemed to be from a surprising place. They probably came by ferry. The owner of the restaurant is a local woman. The service was okay, but the atmosphere of the fishing town, with fishing flags decorating the interior, was refreshing. It's a perfect place to enjoy fresh squid sashimi and experience the fishing village ambiance. The restaurant is only open on weekends. They close when they run out of food, so it's best to visit early. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.
