In April 2023, I visited a newly-reviewed restaurant in Otaru where the "Day Drinking Queen" resides. It used to be a place called "Otaru Robatayaki Tsukushi" which has since closed down. The previous place was cheap, but the interior was messy and I wasn't impressed with the seafood bowl I had there. On a day off, I had to go to work in the morning and left early. I thought about grabbing a meal somewhere and the idea of having a daytime drink crossed my mind, so I ended up here. I don't usually go for daytime drinks in Otaru. I ordered the "Fish Stew Set" for 980 yen, which featured "shishamo" fish, a typical fish in Otaru. The owner, a man, and a female staff member were the only ones working that day. I asked if it was possible to have a drink with my set meal, and they happily agreed. It was a chilly day, so I requested warm sake. I decided to order rice later on. The side dishes included a hamburger with a rich and sweet sauce, which could be enjoyed with rice or as a side dish. The other side dish was a simple fish and fish roe mixture. The stewed shishamo fish, with its light and flavorful seasoning, had a lot of small bones, but it went well with a drink. I ordered another drink to accompany the meal. I finished off with some rice and the leftover hamburger. The pickles were store-bought pickled radish, but the miso soup made with scallops and minced fish, which are popularly sold in Otaru as "Otate," was delicious with a rich broth. Two warm sakes cost 800 yen, and the set meal without any appetizers was 980 yen. In total, I paid 1,780 yen. During my meal, a group of four adults, around the same age as me, were enjoying a similar meal with drinks. It seemed they were from Sorachi and, like me, they enjoyed having a set meal with alcohol. It made me realize that there are different ways to enjoy Otaru on a day off. It was a very cozy and welcoming restaurant. I might come back on another holiday for lunch and drinks.
