Arrived at 6:00 pm on Sunday. Reservation for 2 people. Two groups of customers were already there. Located across from Lucy along Kiyota Street. This area is a fierce battleground for yakiniku restaurants, but this place is the closest to the Nanago 18-chome subway station, making it easily accessible. My mother wanted to eat beef tongue. When we arrived... Huh? The name of the restaurant should be "Hwarang," but it says "Kongouen." Feeling confused, I checked the map on my smartphone, but there was no mistake in the location. I gathered my courage and entered the restaurant. The interior had dim lighting. We were guided to a semi-private room on the right side of the entrance. There was an exhaust vent directly above the shichirin grill, and the walls were slightly sooty, giving a sense of history. The background music seemed to be J-pop, but it was hard to hear over the sound of the exhaust. Besides the owner, there was one female staff member. When I asked the staff about the name of the restaurant, they explained that it was originally "Kongouen," then changed to "Hwarang," but they changed it back to the original name. I hope they correct it on Hot Pepper where you can make reservations online, even if not on Tabelog (I have requested a correction). The menu prices are excluding tax, so be careful. The draft beer (528 yen) was Kirin Lager. The sauce was provided, but the meat was mostly pre-seasoned, so the sauce was mainly for vegetables, and it was on the lighter side. The food we ordered was: - Special Beef Tongue (1,705 yen) x2, salt, about 6 slices per serving. Thick slices with a good texture and delicious! - Wagyu Sagari (1,628 yen), sauce, 6 slices. Tender and delicious! Comes with vegetables. The sauce was different from the one provided and was on the sweeter and richer side (the same goes for the following items). - Pork Shoulder (583 yen), ordered the "Kobukuro" but oh well (laughs), salt, 6 slices. Different from beef but delicious! - Beef Intestines (583 yen), sauce, 10 slices. Crunchy and delicious! - Upper Kalbi (1,188 yen → 594 yen) with a coupon for half off, sauce, 6 slices. Also tender and delicious, even though it's not the highest grade! - Grilled Vegetables (473 yen), I forgot to order this at first. Onions, cabbage, bell peppers, eggplant, potatoes, shiitake mushrooms. The eggplant was especially delicious! - Upper Beef Tongue (1,078 yen), salt, 8 slices. Thinly sliced with a strong flavor, it falls short compared to the special beef tongue... and it's salty! Overall, it was a satisfying and delicious meal. My mother was also satisfied. However, I felt that the seasoning, both salt and sauce, was on the strong side overall. The quality of the meat seemed good (except for the upper tongue), so there doesn't seem to be a need to overcompensate with the seasoning. The total bill was a little over 5,000 yen per person. I will definitely come back!
