Welcome.---------- July 2016 ----------Walking along the Higashi 8-chome Kitakosen line, I stumbled upon a snack-filled mixed-use building on a corner. Mokey-kun said it used to be "Funasushi." As I entered, a hearty "Welcome, please come in♪" greeted me. The counter and raised seating were impressive, and the owner, who at first seemed tough, turned out to be friendly and jovial, with a surprising warmth. While he may seem like a craftsman who doesn't talk much, I'd like to watch TV and chat with him in this pleasant environment. The counter seats had a background music of a slightly exotic shamisen tune. The menu was reasonably priced and varied. Not only were there raised seating areas, but there were also three private rooms in the back. Starting with a Highball, I tried the Squid Simmered in Soy Sauce, which had a hint of sweetness and a seaweed flavor. The Chicken Karaage was like a delicate flower, with a crispy coating and juicy meat, perfect for drinking. The Dashimaki, described as "equivalent to 5 eggs," was fluffy and lightly seasoned with soy sauce and grated radish. The Venison Stew was surprisingly sweet and salty, with no gamey smell, making it a great accompaniment to rice. The Salmon Collar was grilled to perfection, with a crispy skin and tender, lightly salted meat. The change in ownership and name may have altered the restaurant's identity, but for those who remember its past, there is a familiar charm in the atmosphere and dishes. The warm and friendly service from the owner, staff, and chef made for a cozy dining experience. Thank you for the delicious meal.
