In Sapporo, there is a culture of "finishing parfait" that I have been curious about for a while. So, after dining at 'NORTH CONTINENT MACHI NO NAKA', I decided to visit this place. It was around 8:15 PM on a weekday. It may have been a bit early for a "finishing parfait." The restaurant is located on the north side of Tanuki Koji, facing a back alley between Nishi 2-chome Street and Sosei River Street. There was a soft-serve ice cream-shaped sign and white flags outside. The restaurant is on the first floor of a 3-story mixed-use building called 'Dai20 Kowa Building'. There was a white curtain hanging at the entrance. Inside, the entrance is narrow but it goes deep. There are 12 counter seats and a table for 4 people. The dim lighting creates a bar-like atmosphere. When I visited, only about half of the seats were taken, so I was able to quickly find a seat at the counter. However, by around 8:30 PM, it was full, and when I left around 9:20 PM, there were 5-6 people waiting outside. The other customers were young couples, middle-aged couples, and middle-aged women in pairs. The menu offers 6 types of parfaits, soft-serve ice cream, floats, sundaes, cakes, coffee, other soft drinks, alcohol, appetizers, parfait, coffee courses, etc. The prices, especially for the parfaits, were on the higher side. I ordered the "Strawberry and Cheese Parfait - with slightly foamy espuma - 1,983 yen" and "Today's Coffee - 616 yen" for myself, and my companion ordered the "Coffee and Red Fruit Parfait - with black pepper langues de chat - 1,502 yen" and "Italian roast coffee - 616 yen" (all prices include tax). The "Coffee and Red Fruit Parfait" arrived in about 11 minutes, followed by the "Strawberry and Cheese Parfait" in about 7 minutes, and then the coffee in about 7 minutes. The two parfaits were both stylishly and beautifully presented. They seemed a bit difficult to eat though, especially for women. The "Strawberry and Cheese Parfait" consisted of strawberries, cheese cream, crushed cookies, strawberry sherbet, etc. It was quite delicious. However, there was a hint of flavor (ginger, rose?) other than strawberries and cheese that was a bit distracting for me. It felt like they were trying too hard. My companion's "Coffee and Red Fruit Parfait" had a similar impression. For us, simpler parfaits seem to be more suitable (laughs).
