Located about a 5-minute walk from Kitahiroshima Station, in a soft stone warehouse with a tiled roof that was previously used by "Tenjiku Kitahiroshima Store," a new restaurant called "Shimauma Burger Hokkaido Kitahiroshima" opened on April 14, 2023. I visited the restaurant just a week after its opening, and the operation seemed a bit unstable. The layout of the interior remained the same as when it was Tenjiku, with a counter seating for 4 on the first floor, two 2-seater table seats, and a second-floor seating area accessible via a narrow staircase. Upon entering, I was directed to the ticket machine on the right side of the entrance to view the menu. The menu was divided into eat-in and take-out options, with slightly different contents and prices. The specialty recommended on the menu was the "Awaji Island Burger," which features Awaji onions fried and Awaji beef patty sandwiched in whole wheat buns. The take-out price for this item was 880 yen, but for eat-in, it was only available as a set with either fries or onion rings for 1,280 yen. I chose the "Awaji Island Burger with Onion Rings Set @ 1,280" and selected the cheese dip sauce for the onion rings. The burger consisted of lettuce, patty, onion rings, cheese, and bacon with homemade tomato sauce on whole wheat buns. The Awaji onion rings were flavorful but a bit difficult to eat due to their thickness. The patty, however, was thin and lacked the taste of Awaji beef, which was disappointing. The homemade tomato sauce was overly sweet and did not complement the burger well. The soft buns, though made with whole wheat, lacked the distinct whole wheat flavor. The onion rings, though tasty, seemed overpriced for the portion provided. The dip sauce came in a small container that made it challenging to dip the onion rings. Overall, the menu lacked simpler options focusing on the quality of ingredients, and the excessive toppings and heavy sauces may indicate a lack of confidence in the ingredients. While this particular experience may not have suited my taste, it might appeal to others.
