I used GOTO to stay overnight in Asahikawa. With various discounts, I ended up paying only 1,600 yen for one night with two meals included! Asahikawa is a city hotel located in the Takasago area, offering a view of the Asahikawa Basin. The hotel has a spa (no outdoor bath) and a sauna with low temperature. Parking is free.

October is my birthday month, and even though I don't feel like celebrating getting older, it's a day to be grateful to my parents. Departing from Otaru, the 1-night, 2-day trip to Asahikawa covered a wide range of destinations. Looking back, on the first day, we departed from Otaru around 7 am, stopped at the Michi-no-Eki Tobetsu for a toilet break, bought new rice at the Michi-no-Eki Rain Dragon, had new soba at Horonaka (located within the Ruont Onsen at the Michi-no-Eki Soba Village), visited the coldest Lake Shumarinai in Japan, ate pudding at "Brazil" in Nayoro, stopped at the Michi-no-Eki Nayoro, Michi-no-Eki Kembuchi, and arrived at the hotel at 4 pm (all on local roads). Otaru Station to Hokauchi - 187km, Hokauchi to Lake Shumarinai - 64km, Nayoro to Asahikawa Park Hotel - 80km. Total distance on the first day was 331km.
On the second day, we departed from Asahikawa Park Hotel around 8 am, stopped at Kamikawa for a toilet break (observed brown bears), shopped at the Michi-no-Eki Takinoue, visited the Okhotsk Tower in Monbetsu, saw the clione at the science museum, experienced -20 degrees Celsius, had sashimi set meal at Marutomii in Monbetsu, ate freshly fried kamaboko at Izutsuka Suisan, shopped at the Ice Monument Station (former Monbetsu Station site), and returned to Otaru via the expressway with several rest stops. Asahikawa Park Hotel to Kamikawa via Hokauchi - 149km, Monbetsu to Otaru Station - 308km (using toll expressway from Hifukita). Total distance on the second day was 457km, making the total for the 2 days 788km.
In conclusion: Hokkaido is vast! Upon entering the hotel, friendly male front desk staff greeted us. We made reservations for 3 rooms using a combination of GOTO and coupons. We used a trick to maximize discounts. The total for 3 rooms was 16,680 yen, with each room being a single room (although all rooms were actually twin rooms with 2 beds each). It's worth noting that the coupons from Jalan can be used for each reservation, and it's not illegal to make multiple reservations for different rooms on the same day. Additionally, the GOTO discount is based on the original price, so the higher the original price, the higher the discount. This led to a surprising result in our case.
Overall, by splitting the reservations, we were able to maximize the discounts and get a great deal on our stay at Asahikawa Park Hotel.
