The giant squid rice cracker is amazing! When I visited JR Hakodate Station, I was drawn to the sight of tourists carrying such large squid rice crackers, so I ended up buying one too, haha. It's really big, which makes it interesting and impactful. It's delicious, but it takes some time to make, so you might have to wait a bit!

I was really curious about this place on YouTube and I absolutely wanted to go! Watching Ikachan getting pressed and crying (lol). The rice crackers are huge and it takes a while to finish eating them, so it's a bit embarrassing, but it's okay because it's a tourist thing! They are just normal rice crackers, but they are delicious when freshly made. It's fun to watch them being made while waiting in line!

Half & Half - Cut squid and shrimp sandwiched and grilled with flour paste. The ingredients are smaller than expected. Maybe it would have been better with whole squid, etc.? Seasoned with soy sauce. Arrived on Sunday at 13:15, with one other customer already there. Had to use this place to satisfy my hunger after two ramen shops I planned to visit were unexpectedly closed. The grilled dish was quite large. I had to stretch my arm as far as possible to fit it in the photo. It can be considered reasonable for a flour food stall, but somewhat underwhelming as a local specialty.

Purchased a ticket from the vending machine for the "Half & Half Grilled Squid and Crab Senbei." It takes about 5 minutes for the dedicated press machine to compress and complete the process. While being compressed in the press machine, the squid and crab seemed to be screaming, which made me feel a little sorry for them. The size is about twice the size of a face and has a trendy appearance suitable for Instagram. The taste is crispy, with a savory flavor of squid and crab. The saltiness is also just right. I returned to Hakodate Station with some time to spare and the weather was nice, making me sweaty. I felt like having a cold beer, and by chance, I stumbled upon "Ika Sembeya" where they make squid senbei by pressing them on a hot iron plate. Normally, they offer three types: squid, shrimp, and scallop, but they had a limited-time special until the end of October, which was a half-and-half of squid and crab senbei for 500 yen. I also got a ticket for a Sapporo Classic draft beer for 500 yen. I bought the tickets from a vending machine and watched the cooking process. The pressing machine was quite impressive, and the senbei was ready in about 3 minutes. It turned out bigger than I expected. Since there was no eat-in space, I enjoyed it on a bench inside the station while waiting. The freshly grilled senbei had a nice crispy texture, and the flavors of squid and crab were distinct. I was told to eat it quickly, and I understood why - it gets soft if you wait too long. The Sapporo Classic beer was delicious as always. The senbei was quite filling due to its large size, making it a convenient and satisfying snack. It was a great experience.

I ordered a mix of three types of senbei at a senbei shop inside Hakodate Station that caught my interest. It contained squid, shrimp, and scallop, but personally, I found it to be a bit questionable when eating it. I think senbei sold as snacks might be better...\(●°ω°●)/

Hakodate... I come here a few times a month, but it's rare to see Hakodate Station during the day. So, I decided to visit after a long time and found new shops popping up. It takes about 30 minutes until the JR train departs, so I quickly visited two shops. The first one was "Hakodate Ikasenyaya Hakodate Station Store." The small ticket machine displayed a few menu items, including squid, scallops, crabs, and shrimp. They even had half portions available. I ordered the default option, "Squid @ 400 yen." The staff pressed the squid onto a thin rice cracker while I went to the bakery across the street. When I received the finished product, I was surprised to see a large rice cracker about 40 cm in diameter. The staff handed it to me casually, as if it was meant for eating on the go, without any packaging for takeout. I was in a bind since I also had bread from the bakery and wanted to buy beer from Seven-Eleven later. The staff didn't seem willing to accommodate my personal needs at all. I took a bite and found the crispy and fragrant texture of the rice cracker, which paired well with the sweet and savory soy sauce. The squid had a slightly chewy texture and a strong squid flavor. However, it was too much for me to finish, so I ate a few more bites, folded it in half, and stuffed it into the bakery's plastic bag. I then bought beer from Seven-Eleven and boarded the JR train just before departure. Although it was too large, it was quite delicious and went well with the beer. Make sure to check the size before buying. Thank you for the meal.

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to eat squid senbei on the streets near Kanemori Warehouse. It was made by sandwiching squid with dough and pressing it flat on a thick iron plate to make senbei. The shop was located inside Hakodate Station. My partner really wanted to eat it again, so I waited in the car while they went to buy it. It was freshly baked and very hot. The squid inside the dough was pressed so flat, it almost looked like something out of a Tom and Jerry cartoon (laughs). The flavorful dough was quite filling, so it satisfied my hunger. Wishing for a bountiful squid catch! Thank you for the meal.

Inside the station building, there is a place called "Ika Senya" where they press whole squids. You purchase a ticket and wait, but there is no explanation and no numbers, so it's a mystery who ordered what and in what order to wait. They call out "Ika Senya customers~" but 90% of the people there have ordered squid (laughs). If customers don't remember the order, the system becomes completely chaotic. They don't accept 10,000 yen bills and can't make change. When asked what to do, they suggest buying a drink at the nearby Seven-Eleven to get change. As for the taste, it's big but flavorless. The squid part is pressed, but the moisture isn't properly removed, so it's soggy and unpleasant. It may look impressive, but the taste is terrible. I couldn't finish it. I cannot recommend it at all.

Every year without fail, my dreaded birthday comes around...(^^;) Maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration...but as one's long life passes the half-century mark, birthdays become just another ordinary day (laughs). However, this year was a bit more special. There was a great deal for my birthday, so I impulsively signed up for a 3-night, 4-day trip to Hakodate. It was a package deal with flights and accommodations, commonly known as a "free plan." Since I enjoy planning my own travel itineraries, this type of plan suits me better than package tours. For this trip, I decided to create an itinerary without using a rental car. Instead, I utilized JR trains, buses, and the Hakodate streetcar. I ended up using the streetcar almost daily because my hotel was in Yunokawa. I would get off at Hakodate-Ekimae Station almost every day. I did a lot of shopping around the station, and one of the interesting things I found was the "Whole Squid Grilled Senbei." I had seen it on TV before, where it was octopus-flavored, but here in Hakodate, it had to be squid, right? I couldn't resist taking a photo in front of the squid statue...I must have looked like a weirdo to the people around me (sweat). "How did it taste?" you ask? This is a shrimp restaurant. They also have octopus, squid, scallops, crab, and more. It is located inside Hakodate Station, making it perfect for when you get hungry. However, it can be difficult to eat during this time of year with a scarf on because it tends to spill everywhere.

When I went to the station, I found a shop selling squid senbei with a delicious smell. They were pressing and grilling the squid until flat. I decided to buy one and it was a huge size with a crispy texture on the outside, maybe coated with flour. The squid in the middle was a bit tough to chew, but overall it was delicious.
