Welcome.---------- July 2021 ----------If you take a slight detour from the Hakodate Station area streetcar line, you will find a bright facade. The friendly female owner, who may not be young but attracts regular customers, fills the L-shaped counter and one table with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Customers easily become friends with each other. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, with a focus on shellfish. And the super reliable Tatchan, who I thought was amazing after watching him in action, is always there when you need more drinks. Even when busy, he reads the mood around him and magically appears in front of you when your drink runs out, saying "Another lemon sour?". Impressive, right? Let's start with the "beef stew and egg salad". The rough-cut baguette, which leaves a lingering egg texture, complements the flavor and acidity that goes well with alcohol. Apparently, the beef stew alternates with curry depending on the day. It's a great place for a quick drink rather than a long stay.

I visited this restaurant for the first time on the last night of my Hakodate expedition. Although it was close to closing time, I was warmly welcomed. I had a drink and some appetizers before leaving. The atmosphere inside was nice. Next time, I will make sure to come with more time to spare.

I entered the Shell Bar located next to Daimon Yokocho, along Takasago Street. Upon entering, I was greeted by a female waitress, and the main seating area is at the counter. Although they were out of stock today, the specialty of the shop is the trio of grilled clams, oysters, and scallops (900 yen). As I looked through the menu, I noticed that there were dishes priced around 500 yen, giving a sense of affordability. When I asked the owner for recommendations, he suggested the lamb steak (550 yen), which turned out to be delicious for its low price. I was satisfied with my meal.

Three types of grilled oysters, scallops, and clams. The ingredients are good, and they are so delicious that you can eat them over and over again. Oysters can also be eaten raw. This day we had fresh oysters from Gourong. It's always crowded, but if you peek in and it's empty, I want to go in again.

The oysters were delicious! In addition to the shellfish, there were other menu items that were also tasty. The restaurant is small, so it gets crowded quickly!

This shop may look like a bar or a snack bar at first glance, but it actually has a wide variety of dishes and drinks. The fried oysters and vegetable salad served as appetizers were delicious. The lamb steak was also tasty. It's rare to see lamb meat shaped like a steak, as it's usually served with bones or in slices. The grilled clams and scallops were large and satisfying. They offer a good selection of alcohol, including shochu. The prices for the dishes are reasonable, so I think it's good value for money.

Shellbar offers a wide variety of shellfish dishes. The highlight is their comparison set of oysters, featuring the famous (probably) thick-skinned oysters from Akkeshi and the well-known Chitose oysters from around Hakodate. It's a somewhat cruel menu that clearly shows the difference in reputation, but it makes you feel like a gourmet. They also have a good selection of drinks, including not only whiskies like Taketsuru but also quite a few types of sake. The Shirakawa I had last time was delicious. The energetic and polite service from the owner is top-notch among Hakodate bars. It's a hidden gem where you can always leave feeling uplifted and in a good mood.
