★2015/6/First visit to Daimaru, I stumbled upon this snack and it was love at first sight. Even though I hadn't tried it, I just knew I would love it. However, I was low on cash so I hesitated. The staff offered me a sample and I couldn't resist, so I ended up buying it. [Ecorce] for 540 yen, I think it's probably the smallest size. It has thin, crispy layers of pastry that are slightly sweet. It comes in triangle, rectangular, and round shapes, with the round ones containing milk and white chocolate. The ratio is 6 pieces of triangle, 6 pieces of rectangular, and 2 pieces each of milk and white chocolate round ones. There are larger sizes available but I refrained from buying them because I would probably eat the whole thing in one day. I love it so much! If you like wafers or Elise, you'll love this. Highly recommended. ★2015/11/Second visit, I couldn't resist buying the Ecorce Family Set which was 15% off for a limited time. [Ecorce Family Set] for 2754 yen, usually 3240 yen. In addition to the regular Ecorce, it includes the winter limited Chocolat Ecorce, Mandel Chiegel (almond scattered snack), Olofino which looks like Toblerone, and probably limited Coffee and Tea Ecorce. The Chocolat Ecorce is small but delicious. I feel like I could eat it all up! Mandel Chiegel and Olofino are a bit different from Ecorce but also delicious. ★2016/03/Third visit, when Ecorce has a cherry blossom flavor, I just have to buy it. [Sakura Ecorce] is a thin Ecorce with cherry blossom chocolate. The crispy Ecorce goes perfectly with the cherry blossom flavor. It's delicious!

In April 2012, Hon Takasago-ya is a famous store that was established in 1877, specializing in Western and Japanese sweets. They have outlets in department stores nationwide. Their signature item is the Écorce, a type of Western sweet. The store is located on the basement floor of Daimaru Sapporo, directly connected to JR Sapporo Station in Chuo-ku, Sapporo. You can check the exact location of the store on Tabelog. As I passed by the store, they were offering free samples. I tried the samples, which were in three flavors: cherry blossom, black sesame, and matcha. The cherry blossom Écorce had a cherry blossom-flavored chocolate wrapped in thin dough, giving it a bright and spring-like taste. The matcha and black sesame Écorce had their respective flavors mixed into the dough as well. Each chocolate had its own unique taste, with a rich and calming flavor. The crispy texture of the Écorce was very satisfying. Since the flavors were so good, I ended up buying all three. I bought the cherry blossom flavor individually, and the black sesame and matcha flavors in a box set. The price of the Écorce was reasonable, making it a perfect gift. It is a Western sweet that will be appreciated by others and can be enjoyed at home as well. It was delicious, thank you.

A pastry with a thin, crispy crust and a delicious almond flavor. Made with almonds, sugar, eggs, flour, and flavorings, it's a simple and delightful treat that tastes just like almonds. The beautiful box featuring Kobe's scenery is also a nice touch.

This Ecorce arrived on Christmas Day. It's a seasonal Ecorce and it's cute. Christmas cards can be quite expensive this time of year, so sending this instead of a card is a good idea. This one has chocolate inside. When I was a kid, I used to receive a variety pack of Ecorces, and the ones with chocolate would always disappear first. I wonder why it is that when there's candy left, you end up eating it reluctantly. It's hard to make it last until the end. Maybe the trick is to not show the box and only bring out that one, but even as a child, I knew that there were more left.
