The Hokkai Market in Tonden is different from regular supermarkets. Especially when it comes to fresh fish!! Even small individual fish shops don't have such a selection, and it outshines the fish at large department stores in downtown Sapporo. This place is a paradise for fish lovers. I really think it's amazing ♥️ I bought scallops from Suttsu. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture, but they were so delicious due to their freshness that I devoured them in no time ♥️♥️♥️

Visited this Joyful Ake store for the first time in November 2022 to buy a traditional portable kerosene stove for power outage preparedness. Since our home heating is electric, it can be tough in the winter when there's a blackout. After trying the "Teriyaki Burger" at Gon Burger, a newcomer to Hokkaido, which didn't impress me much, I stopped by here. I initially thought it was just a budget supermarket, but the unique product lineup and displays caught my eye. They carry products from "Niku Dorobou" Hiroshima's Asamurasaki soy sauce maker. While Hokkaido is familiar with Bell Foods and Sorachi sauces, this was a new find. I tried the "Niku Dorobou" and it really goes well with rice. They also had "Hakata Umami Chicken Ponzu" from Fukuoka's Torizen Foods, known for their wide range of Mizutaki restaurants. Hokkaido isn't big on vinegar culture, but with the diversification of cuisine, ponzu is becoming more popular. There was also "Millet Biscuits" from Kochi, a new taste for me. There are so many varieties to choose from, it's quite enjoyable to browse. In Sapporo, we have Saka Biscuits, known for their "Aji Fry." There was also "Fried Rice Cracker Beaver," a soul food from Hokuriku by Hokuriku Seika. And "Komi Sauce" from a local sauce maker in Nagoya. While Hokkaido is familiar with Bulldog sauce, there are also delicious local sauces in Kansai and Tokyo. It was interesting to see products not commonly found in Hokkaido, and the store manager's attention to detail and creative displays made it a superstore worth visiting again in Tonden.

Sapporo City, Kita-ku, Tonden area. A supermarket where you can get meat and rare fish. Highly recommended are the Hokkaido beef and brand pork, which are very cheap. The fish selection ranges from Hokkaido to Kyushu, ensuring good freshness. I particularly like the large-sized, fatty, fresh mackerel. I purchased a male Matsukawa flounder for 2074 yen. The skin was tough, so I asked the staff to cut it for me. This time, I made a marinated bowl with the Matsukawa flounder, inspired by the flounder bowl from Minato Shokudo in Hachinohe. It was delicious with thick slices marinated in a broth with grated garlic. The Engawa was seared and eaten as sashimi. While the fat content was not as high as "Aburagarei," the Matsukawa flounder is excellent for marinating or pickling. I also bought Hokkaido beef tendons and snow under daikon radish. The beef tendons were cooked in a stew, and the daikon radish was used for oden. The leftover miso stew was remade into miso stew udon the next day. It was delicious and cost-effective, all purchased for under 3000 yen. Highly recommended!

The North Sea Market is amazing. In the fresh fish section, there are fish that you don't often see in Hokkaido, which captivate customers. It's like an aquarium. What surprised me today was that they had foie gras! Next to it was horse meat. I always support the North Sea Market! By the way, I came to buy tripe hot pot soup for dinner, and there were so many types that I had never seen before. I chose one called "Sanwa's Nagoya Cochin Salt Garlic Chicken Broth Hot Pot Soup," which is not familiar in Hokkaido (sorry). Usually, tripe hot pot soup comes in soy sauce or miso flavors. Actually, the salt flavor is delicious. I wonder why they don't sell it more. At home, we always choose salt-flavored soups. This soup was also delicious. Definitely give it a try! The North Sea Market is amazing!

Last September, I was hospitalized for difficult disease treatment, following stays in January and this year. Due to this, my usual reviews were on hold from April 19th until my discharge on May 6th. I managed to write the reviews on my computer before being admitted and only uploaded them from my hospital bed. I was discharged safely on May 6th. While in the hospital, I couldn't reply to the comments on my reviews, but I have now completed that task. I made sure to give "likes" to the reviews uploaded by everyone even while in the hospital. The supportive comments from everyone were a source of strength for me during my hospital stay. I am truly grateful. Although I have been discharged, I anticipate another hospitalization later this year. Thank you for your continued support. [May 2021] "Hokkai Ichiba" operates six stores in Sapporo. It is a market that suits common people like me. The main feature is the affordable prices of the products. They cook prepared dishes in each store, which allows them to sell them at low prices. This "Hokkai Ichiba Tonden Store" opened in October 2018. I visited for the first time with my usual companion. This store is located in the Tonden area of Kita-ku, Sapporo, along Tonden Yonban Street within the premises of "Joyful A Tonden Store." Please check the exact location on Tabelog. I visited around 3 pm on a weekday. The interior of the store is similar to the "Hokkai Ichiba Yamabana Store" in Chuo Ward. The product composition is similar, with affordable products on display. Particularly, the sushi was cheap, but I refrained from buying it this time. One of the specialties of "Hokkai Ichiba" is the affordable "half-fried young chicken." I bought it, of course (laughs). There was also the rare "Toudai Tsubu," which I bought. It has a soft texture and a good taste, unique to spring in Eastern Hokkaido. It is a rare type of tsubu with no shellfish poison inside, so you can eat the whole thing. My usual companion simmered it as a side dish for drinks. I bought various items. ■ Half-fried young chicken Weight: 358g (after removing the windbag) Price: 430 yen (tax included) ■ Toudai Tsubu Weight: 360g (after removing the windbag) 12 pieces 100g: 58 yen A rare type of tsubu with a soft texture and good taste unique to spring in Eastern Hokkaido. Since there is no shellfish poison inside, you can eat the whole thing, making it a rare type of tsubu. It makes a good side dish for drinks. Price: 225 yen (tax included) ■ Fried horse mackerel Weight: 173g (after removing the windbag) 4 pieces Price: 195 yen (tax included) ■ Hokkaido sweet salted autumn salmon Weight: 357g (after removing the windbag) Thickly sliced 3 pieces Price: 223 yen (tax included) ■ Sanfuji Hokkaido Shinano Sweet Weight: 1490g (after removing the windbag) 6 pieces Price: 645 yen (tax included) ■ Daikon from Ibaraki Prefecture Weight: 1101g Price: 138 yen (tax included) ■ Kitakata Ramen - Shoyu 5 servings Noodles and sauce included Flat noodles typical of Kitakata Price: 321 yen (tax included) ■ Spasara Price: 188 yen → 94 yen (tax included) The "half-fried young chicken" has increased in price, but it is still affordable at 430 yen. The taste is average, but the size is quite large at 358g. At 430 yen, it is quite satisfying in terms of size. It is a perfect "half-fried young chicken" for someone like me, a common person (laughs). The "Toudai Tsubu" is a type of tsubu with a short season. It was the first of the year and made a good side dish. The market is full of cheap items, making it easy to get carried away. Feeling tired, I decided to head home midway. Next time, I would like to take a leisurely look at the prepared food and meat section. Thank you for the delicious meal. -------------------------------------------------------------------- As of May 22, 2021, Reference: "Half-fried young chicken" from smallest to largest Aida Dining Daimaru Sapporo Store offers domestically produced half-grilled young chicken, not half-fried Bunka Lella Joya offers domestically produced half-roasted young chicken, not half-fried Total: 33 stores 1.
