Despite the prices, the reviews for this restaurant are quite mixed. The menu consists of ramen, Chinese set meals, giving off a typical Chinese restaurant vibe. What stands out more than the food is the prices, with many dishes ranging from 600 to 700 yen. These prices seem to be frozen in time, from around 10 to 20 years ago. As a customer, it's pleasing, but one can't help but worry if the restaurant is doing okay. The owner is a very nice and humble elderly gentleman. The Chinese chirashi (650 yen) consists of ingredients like cabbage, onions, shiitake mushrooms, bell peppers, bamboo shoots, minced meat, shrimp, and squid, all mixed together with egg, typical of a Chinese chirashi. The vegetables are stir-fried to give some charred edges, which I personally enjoy. The aroma and acidity of the pickled ginger add a nice touch. The flavor is soy sauce-based, not as sweet as it may look. It has a subtle taste, not too flashy, but I quite like it. In any case, it's a cheap restaurant popular among local government workers. One thing to note is that it's a rare find these days to allow smoking inside, with a limit of 3 cigarettes per customer, perhaps to control the stay time or for other reasons.

I had a quick lunch at Kawataro-tei, which has a cozy atmosphere. It's a ramen or Chinese restaurant, with a small interior where the kitchen and seating area are separated. The owner was busy cooking, so I sat at a table facing the wall. I ordered the fried rice for 600 yen. I thought about trying the dumplings for 400 yen, but decided against it. The fried rice arrived, piled high and not too greasy, but quite simple. It had a hint of the delicious flavor of caramelized onions, similar to the fried rice made by a dad at home. The meat used was char siu, not ham. It could have been improved by adding more oil, additional ingredients, and keeping it hot, to make it a more special dish.

I went to Kappa-tei! It was my first visit. The location is quite prominent but the shop itself is a bit hard to notice (laughs). The name of the shop is a bit eerie too. It's a small shop run by the owner alone. I ordered the Shoyu Ramen for 550 yen including tax. It's quite cheap for these days! The menu has other affordable options like Chinese rice bowls, Chinese donburi, and set meals. The ramen arrived in less than 10 minutes. It looks simple, with a good amount of noodles. The taste is pretty good! The soup is light in color but slightly salty with a strong umami flavor. The noodles are medium-thick curly noodles cooked al dente. The chashu is quite tough and hard to tear apart (laughs). It's topped with plenty of green onions and seaweed. I would like to try other dishes besides ramen next time. Everything is under 700 yen, which is convenient. Thank you Kappa-tei for the meal!

【Ankake】Festival is happening. After Shanghai, I decided to try this place. The sign wasn't lit up... (are they closed...?) but then I saw a faint light inside... and a sign saying 【Open】 at the entrance. Inside, there was just the owner. There were 2 table seats, 2 raised seats, and 3 counter seats. No menu on the table, just one on the wall. I ordered the 【Ankake Yakisoba】 and 【Tianjin noodles】. When they asked "Are you sure about the portion size?" I was surprised. It was a normal amount, not too big. The Ankake Yakisoba had lots of ingredients and a boiled egg instead of quail eggs! It was cheap and delicious.

Entered the store before 1 o'clock. About 5-6 customers left before me. There are only 1-2 parking spaces available. The smell of cigarettes is strong inside, like an oasis for smokers. There is a sign on the wall saying "Please limit smoking to 3 cigarettes." The restaurant is small with 2 counter seats, 2 small raised seats, and 2 tables for four people. They bring you a glass of water and an ashtray as soon as you sit down, which is nostalgic. The an-kake yakisoba I ordered was homey, not authentic Chinese, but considering the price of 630 yen, it's not bad. The sliced boiled egg was a nice touch. The ingredients were decent, matching the price. The taste is acceptable for the price. It didn't blow me away, but for some reason, I'm curious about trying other dishes on the menu. Everything is cheap here. I wonder what else they have. I'll definitely come back.

When dining with a group, they asked us to order the same menu to avoid delays.

I was looking forward to it, but when I entered, I immediately felt unsure. It seemed like the owner was trying his best by himself. I tried the Chinese flyer and the Ankake Yakisoba, but the table could have been better... It was disappointing. I don't remember the taste, sorry.

The place is located near Obihiro Saisei Hospital. There is a parking lot, but it may be a bit difficult to park. Inside the restaurant, there is a counter, table seating, and a small raised tatami area. The owner runs the place alone, and the menu is displayed on the wall. I ordered the "Chuka Chirashi for 650 yen." You can hear the sound of a wok in the kitchen. Now, the famous Tokachi Chuka Chirashi has arrived! It includes scrambled eggs, Chinese cabbage, pork, green peppers, shiitake mushrooms, bean sprouts, squid, bamboo shoots, and more. It has a good amount of ingredients for the price. The pickled ginger looks beautiful. The taste is light, but it goes well with the white rice. The meal comes with Chinese soup and pickles too. You can enjoy a meal at this cozy diner at a reasonable price. Thank you for the meal.

This is a small restaurant located near Otofuke Station, close to Obihiro Kyosai Hospital. I discovered this place last year (2013) and was curious about it. The interior has a small counter and a few tables, including a raised seating area. I tried the local dish of Obihiro called "Chuka Chirashi" from the menu. I'm not sure why it's called "Chuka" or why it's a "chirashi" dish, but it was a tasty stir-fried vegetable and pork dish served over rice. It had a slightly sweet flavor from sugar, mirin, and soy sauce. It wasn't a unique taste, but I found myself enjoying it and might order it again next time I visit Obihiro. Unlike most restaurants in Obihiro that offer "Butadon" (pork bowl) on their menu, this Chinese restaurant doesn't have it, which I think is refreshing. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

I entered the restaurant because I saw a large yellow sign with "Chinese" written on it from the intersection on November 30, 2011. In Hokkaido, especially in Obihiro, Chinese food often means ramen, so I haven't had Chinese food in a long time. In Osaka where I used to live, there were many popular Chinese restaurants like Kyoto Ousho, Osaka Ousho, and Nem Nem, as well as individual Chinese restaurants and ramen shops. The restaurant had 3 counter seats, 2 tables for 4 people, and 2 small raised seating areas, providing a decent number of seats without feeling cramped. The menu consisted of ramen, Chinese rice dishes, and 3 types of set meals. This time, I ordered the Mapo Tofu set meal for 630 yen. The taste was disappointing, similar to the mild Mapo Tofu from Biya. I might come back again.
