North Wind
Sunday afternoon. For me, it was a long-awaited visit to KFC. It had been at least 10 years since I last ate there. Back in the day, when my son was young, we used to go there as a family. However, in my early 40s, I had a serious illness and had to strictly limit my calorie intake for a while. That's when I stopped eating at KFC, and I've been avoiding it ever since. The main reasons for staying away were the high cost and the fact that it didn't feel like a satisfying meal for the price. Although I occasionally craved their fried chicken, I would opt for cheaper alternatives at the supermarket and try to resist the temptation. But I couldn't help but feel that something was missing. Recently, my wife saw a TV ad for a special KFC meal deal and suggested we give it a try. I was less interested in KFC (except for noodles) now and was excited about the idea of breaking the ban. We ordered the "Boneless & Fish Pack" (1,130 yen tax included), which included boneless chicken (2 pieces), fried fish (2 pieces), multigrain stone oven bread (1 piece), and small fries (1 piece). I thought this could be enough for two people now, so I reserved it over the phone and went to pick it up at 12:00. When I arrived at the store at exactly 12:00, I could have gotten it inside, but it was empty, so I went through the drive-thru. I received the "Boneless & Fish Pack" at the pickup window, and the car was filled with the smell of fried chicken. It was irresistible. This unique KFC scent... It had been so long. I was getting hungry. Let's get back home quickly. When I arrived home, I opened the package. Looking at the actual items in the meal, I thought, "Hmm, will this be enough for two people after all?" I was a bit worried. Well, let's try it. First, we shared the "Multigrain Stone Oven Bread" since there was only one. It was delicious. It had a grainy aroma and a slight sweetness. The bread was soft and moist, likely due to being baked in a stone oven. The "Fried Fish" was a first for me. It might have been around for a while, but I had never ordered it before. This encounter was unique to the meal deal. The fish was crispy on the outside, revealing white fish inside. There was plenty of tartar sauce. It was okay, I guess. The crispiness was nice, but I'm not sure about the taste. Personally, I don't think KFC needs to offer fish, but maybe that's just me. As for the "Fries," they had a strong potato flavor, but other than that, they were just regular fries.
