During my first visit to Co-op Sapporo in October 2022, I also purchased some sweets from "Sansyo", a confectionery shop based in Tomakomai City. One of their signature treats is called "Yoitomake", which was first released in 1953. It is a roll cake generously spread with jam made from the abundant Haskap berries found in the Hidaka region. The perfect balance of sweet and tangy flavors makes it a delightful treat. In the past, "Yoitomake" used to be wrapped in a thin plastic-like material to prevent the box from getting sticky. This led to it being jokingly referred to as the "most difficult-to-eat sweet in Japan" due to the messiness involved in cutting it with a knife. Despite facing financial difficulties at one point, a former employee of Sansyo who went on to build a successful real estate business made efforts to revive the company as a way of giving back. The company expanded its offerings to include bread and bento boxes, and even rebranded "Yoitomake" as "Hitokire" to make it more accessible and easy to eat. Today, the convenience of being able to purchase a single slice has attracted a new generation of fans. However, the nostalgic stickiness of the original "Yoitomake" from back in the day still holds a special charm.

When it gets hot, the symptoms worsen, it is a rare disease designated by the government. Unfortunately, there is no medicine that suits my rare disease yet. Last year in September, and this year in January, April to May, and again in September, October, and November, I was hospitalized for rare disease treatment. I was discharged for the fifth time five weeks ago. However, I am scheduled for hospitalization again in January next year. Your encouraging comments have been a source of strength for me during my hospitalization. I am truly grateful. Thank you in advance for your continued support. In the future, I plan to mainly upload past reviews that have not been reviewed yet. I will limit new visits, taking into consideration my health condition. "Sansho" is a confectionery store with its main store in Tomakomai City. It was established in 1898 (Meiji 31), making it a long-established confectionery store celebrating its 123rd anniversary this year. It originated in Otaru. It is related to Takiji Kobayashi, who is famous for "Kani Kosen." "Sansho" is famous for its confectionery using haskap berries. In particular, the famous confectionery "Yoitomake" is considered a soul food for the people of Tomakomai City. The song "Yoitomake no Uta" was once sung by Akira Maruyama. In the 2014 NHK Red and White Song Battle, Akira Minayo sang it, creating a big buzz. It was a song that deeply touched the heart, singing about the hardships of laborers. It is a song related to Tomakomai City. When I visited "Co-op Sapporo Shindo Store" with my usual companion, this store is located in the Fushiko area of Higashi Ward, Sapporo City, along Naebo Street on the first floor of "Co-op Sapporo Shindo Store." Please check the exact location of the store on Tabelog. I visited around 3 p.m. on a weekday. I planned to buy the famous confectionery "Yoitomake." I noticed the nostalgic "Natsukashi no Butter Cake" which reminded me of the past. In the past, all decoration cakes were "Butter Cakes." I also bought the affordable "Choux Cream" for 130 yen. It was so cheap that I added two more. Nostalgic Butter Cake Weight: Actual measurement 77g (excluding the packaging) It looks like a nostalgic decoration pure butter cake with a good mouthfeel and a bit of freshness in the taste Price: 300 yen (tax included) Choux Cream Weight: Actual measurement 90g (excluding the packaging) A large, nostalgic type of choux cream with plenty of cream Price: 130 yen (tax included) The "Nostalgic Butter Cake" looks like a decoration cake from childhood. Unlike in the past, the cream is not too rich and has a good mouthfeel. The price of 300 yen is pleasing for the quality. The "Choux Cream" also has a nostalgic taste and style. It is affordable at 130 yen, making it easy for the general public to enjoy. "Yoitomake" and the "cakes" are both delicious and reasonably priced. They are perfect for everyday use. I might go for the usual "Yoitomake" next time. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I picked it up,,, thanks to my dad I'm alone in Sapporo. In the morning, I'll go skiing, tonight is my grandson's birthday, tomorrow I'll go shopping for gifts, so I won't be able to do my food log activities this week. Quite a change from usual, only one third as much. So, I was planning to go drinking until the evening part starts after coming back from skiing, but it's a bit awkward. So, let's go on a tour of Higashi-ku and follow sato-chan. I set the first place and head there. Along the way, I found Co-op Sapporo. Come to think of it, this place is also part of the route. This is following my dad. In the bakery corner, I got Co-op Sapporo's bakery corner. If there's "Santsei" here too, it's totally lucky. Lucky or not, Co-op Sapporo is known for its cheap soft serve ice cream and "Yoitomake." But there doesn't seem to be soft serve ice cream here, and the soft serve ice cream I had in Tomakomai wasn't 200 yen anymore. I don't like jam, so Yoitomake... this snack is a snack I really dislike. But because I dislike it, I haven't eaten it in decades, and at least I haven't eaten it since I started my food log. So I thought I'd try it this time, but I decided to get one because there was a "Chiffon Cake" here. Is it like a cut-off piece? I think the person here is a very nice person, but they can't pay attention. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but I felt a little annoyed. I couldn't stop eating the chiffon because it was so delicious. It's delicious and doesn't need any special feeling. After all, chiffon is simply delicious. "I'll eat it!" Without consciously eating it, Yoitomake is the kind of snack that you have to consciously eat. It's really bad taste. Why combine sponge and jam? It's grotesque from the appearance. It's amazing. The back side is like they just sloppily spread the jam. What kind of lack of motivation is that? When you eat it, it's not that noticeable, which is strange, but the base is cheap. But that doesn't mean I'll avoid it. Can't you eat it? Surprisingly, I'm surprised at myself for not thinking it's delicious, but the snack that I disliked from Five Fingers will disappear from Five Fingers.

▼Location▼ Located inside the Coop Sapporo Shindo store along Sapporo Shindo Avenue. ▼About the Shop▼ Sansei is a long-established confectionery shop founded in 1898 in Otaru, and later moved to Tomakomai in 1912 where it remains today. They are known for using local specialty Haskap berries in their signature confectionery called "Yoitomake," and also offer a variety of other sweets and some stores even sell bread. They have now expanded to over 30 chain stores. ▼Menu▼ They offer a variety of delicate Western-style confectioneries, with a focus on Yoitomake, as well as cakes. ▼What I Ate▼ ▽ Yoitomake Strawberry 680 yen (September 2015) This is a new version of the famous Yoitomake, featuring strawberries. It is a roll cake with strawberry jam both inside and outside. The sponge texture is just right, and the taste is sweet with the flavor of strawberries. However, unlike the traditional Haskap Yoitomake which has a balance of sweetness and acidity, this one felt a bit too sweet. ▼Impressions▼ (September 2015) Sansei is a well-known confectionery chain representing Tomakomai. Their specialty confectionery using Haskap berries, "Yoitomake," is a must-try. They have multiple stores in Tomakomai and also have in-store shops in places like Sapporo. I purchased the strawberry version of Yoitomake that I had been curious about. It was delicious, but I found it to be overly sweet. I realized the importance of the acidity in the traditional Haskap Yoitomake, which I am used to. This experience made me appreciate the unique taste of Yoitomake even more. I usually only have Yoitomake, so next time I would like to try other sweets as well.

In July 2015, there were many Haskap products available at this store. One particular eye-catching and cute cake caught my attention. It was described as a nostalgic butter cake, which brought back memories of receiving butter cakes from my father's company during Christmas when I was a child. However, I didn't have a good impression of butter cakes back then. This cake had lovely cream roses on top and some red jelly balls that reminded me of the past. As an adult now, I thought maybe my impression of butter cakes has changed, so I decided to purchase the Haskap jelly as well. After admiring the cake, I finally tasted it. The butter cake brought back childhood memories with its flavor, but I still didn't like the red jelly balls. It seems my impression of butter cakes hasn't changed much. I had my son try it, and he said it was delicious, so maybe it's something unusual for kids these days. The jelly was very rich in Haskap flavor, with a hint of tartness and a lot of sweetness. It was packed with Haskap. ✿ฺ(๑´ڡ`๑)✿ฺ.

I apologize for the slightly old review. My wife is a huge fan of Arashi, and we attended their concert in Sapporo where I bought some souvenirs. When my wife met with some friends in Higashi-ku, they bought me a "Yoitomake" from a nearby Co-op, which is one of my favorite treats. Yoitomake is a roll cake made with plenty of Haskap berries, which are famous in Tomakomai. I have loved this cake since my time living in Sapporo over 30 years ago. It can be a bit messy to cut because of how sticky it is, but it comes wrapped in an edible wafer to help with that. This time, it was already cut into 7 slices, which was very convenient. It has a slight tangy taste but is sweet and incredibly delicious. It's truly one of the best snacks out there.
