On September 9, 2020, I went to Marumaru Sushi in Obihiro, a small sushi restaurant with a blue sign. I ordered the Assorted Sushi for 1,900 yen, which included various fresh toppings like surf clam, scallop, crab, flying fish roe, sweet shrimp, salmon roe, sea bream, tuna, and yellowtail. The sushi rice had a slightly tangy flavor and was well-packed, while the toppings were large and delicious. The crab miso soup was also tasty. Overall, it was a reasonably priced and satisfying dining experience in the city center. I will definitely visit again.

On July 24, 2020, I went to a sushi restaurant called Marumaki Sushi near the Eiraku street. The restaurant is located in the center of Obihiro, across from Ukawa-san. It has a noticeable blue sign and a cozy interior with 5 counter seats and 2 four-seat tables. I arrived at 6:25 PM and there was one group of customers already there.
I ordered two Special (2,300 yen each) sets for takeout. The sushi included scallop, hairy crab, surf clam, yellowtail or amberjack, tuna (between lean and medium fatty), sea bream, salmon roe, sea urchin, and shrimp - total of 9 pieces. The vinegar in the rice was slightly sweet and the sushi was well-packed and just the right size. The fish was fresh and delicious.
For the price of 2,300 yen, the quality of the sushi was reasonable and satisfying. It's a good place to go before drinking or as a final meal. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I went to Matoi Sushi for the third round of a year-end party. The restaurant is small and bright inside. We were greeted by other customers when we arrived. The beer was delicious, as expected at a sushi restaurant. We ordered sashimi and sushi, which were visually appealing and tasty. The sushi was satisfying and the final piece was especially delicious. The bill was surprisingly cheap, and the other customer even helped cover some of it. Thank you for the meal, Matoi Sushi!

Hokkaido. When it comes to Obihiro City in Tokachi, it is an inland area far from the sea, but it's Hokkaido after all. The food is different and delicious compared to Kanto. It has been a few years since I last visited this restaurant, but the head chef seemed to be doing well. It was my second visit, but I couldn't help but order more and more and eat it all!! I will definitely visit again!

I visited this restaurant twice. The interior is small with a counter and a couple of table seats, giving the impression that it mainly caters to customers looking to bring home sushi as a souvenir after a night of drinking. I wondered if the name "Matomisushi" meant wrapping sushi to take home, but I'm not sure. "Matomi" refers to the flags that volunteer fire brigades owned in the Edo period. The restaurant had models of these flags on display, which was interesting.

The restaurant has less than 10 counter seats and two small four-person table seats, making it a cozy space. They prepare their own white fish and shellfish, carefully selecting high-quality ingredients. In addition to their regular menu, they also offer daily specials written on a whiteboard, which never disappoints. One unique dish they serve is shrimp miso on battleship sushi, a regular item due to its freshness and delicious taste. Their crab soup is a must-try. They have a variety of drinks and snacks available, and the friendly owner will help you choose the perfect drink to pair with your meal. Overall, a highly recommended restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere.
