I visited Shiosai located below the Otaru Aquarium. It's the season for sea urchin now, and Otaru sea urchin is delicious. Unfortunately, the freshly caught sea urchin from Otaru Maehama was out of stock due to bad weather, but I enjoyed the boxed sea urchin instead. It was also from Otaru Maehama and had a melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness that I can't describe. Definitely worth a visit to try it out! Another recommendation is their old-fashioned light ramen, which is incredibly tasty. Their miso oden is also delicious. And of course, Otaru is famous for its herring too! You can enjoy a delicious meal while looking at the sea, it's very soothing.

At first, I didn't have much time so I was thinking of eating uni (sea urchin) at a restaurant in a tourist spot. However, I was told, "It's the season for fresh uni now, so you should try it," and was taken to a restaurant. It cost 1700 yen for a taxi from Otaru Station, but since there were four of us, it was okay. For those with more time, I recommend taking the bus to Otaru Aquarium, which costs 200 yen one way. There were buses every 1 hour or so. Now, onto the main dish - the uni bowl. It was labeled as a special price of 2980 yen for a "fresh uni bowl" (there was also a 3980 yen option with uni marinated in alum). Of course, I chose the fresh uni bowl. While waiting, they served us some hokke (Okhotsk Atka mackerel) croquettes, which my kids and I enjoyed. The uni bowl had so much uni that you couldn't even see the rice - the texture was unique to fresh uni. The restaurant looked like a regular diner, so I probably wouldn't have gone in if it hadn't been recommended. But if you're visiting Otaru Aquarium, I highly recommend stopping by this place.
