The other day, I saw the first review of "Kita no Momitaro-san" and thought, wait a minute? I feel like I've been to this place before, but I don't see my review... Did my review disappear? No, I'm sure I wasn't the first? I pondered this while heading to Daimaru to see... I found out that I had actually visited the pickle shop next door before... It's just age-related memory loss (laughs). I regained my focus and peeked at the shelves... I tried the "Nukazuke Daikon" for 648 yen. I opened the bag when I got home, lightly washed off the bran, and cut it with a knife. The daikon was pickled just right, with a nice crunchy and tender texture. The taste is a bit sweet, but it's delicious. It's just a matter of preference, so I'd like to try others as well. I will visit again. Thank you for the meal~

On a certain holiday, I stopped by Daimaru in Sapporo Station area while strolling around. It is located in the underground food area called Hoppetown. I found out that it was recently opened and it is a pickles shop from Kyoto. It is a small shop with various pickles and nukadoko (rice bran bed) in the center of Hoppetown. On that day, I indulged in some items from the menu. I tried the "Lightly Pickled Kyoto Cabbage 200g (594 yen)" which was a small half cabbage pickled in a light manner. It was not too salty but had a subtle sweetness and light umami, perfect for eating like a salad. I also bought the "Nukazuke Cucumber 1 piece (297 yen)" and enjoyed it the next day after storing it in the fridge. It had a slight acidity due to the time passed, but the mild saltiness allowed me to eat a lot without worry. The "Nukazuke Eggplant 1 piece (297 yen)" had a distinctive acidity, umami, and a slight bitterness typical of eggplants. Lastly, the "Nukazuke Carrot 1 piece (297 yen)" had a similar level of acidity, which some may prefer, and the crunchy texture of the carrot was enjoyable. Overall, it was a good learning experience for me. Since these pickles are low in salt, it's best to consume them as soon as possible. Thank you for the delicious meal.

The pickled cucumber had a nice texture, but the eggplant was mushy and had a strong bitter taste, which didn't taste very good with the rice.
