I found a comforting Komeda Coffee shop after checking out of the business hotel in Tomakomai, where the checkout time was 10:00. It's located away from the Tomakomai Station, like a standalone house. In the morning, they offer a morning set where you get thick toast with just the cost of your drink. This is much appreciated.

Due to the coronavirus, the operating hours have been gradually reduced and finally the store now closes at 8 pm. Since this place is quite far from me, it's quite challenging to make it to Komeda by 8 pm on weekdays. It feels like it has become difficult to relax and enjoy a leisurely time with a friend while eating a Shironekoiru. When I went to eat the Yuzu Honey Shironekoiru, it was already sold out, so I ended up just having a drink and heading back home (laughs). I was too late... I thought it wasn't necessary to rush to eat it, but it was already gone. Lemon Squash and Melon Soda were delicious! The shoe-shaped glass is really exciting! They sell them at the store, so you can have them at home, but they are so bulky that it's hard to find a place to put them (laughs). I wonder how they manage to store these bulky and unstackable cups in the Komeda store? It was a delicious meal. Thank you!

In January 2023, I revisited Tomakomai City, which ranked fourth in population in Hokkaido according to the national survey in 2020. Despite its population, there are not many so-called cafe chain stores in the city. As of the end of January 2023, there are only Starbucks Coffee and Doutor Coffee Shop in the Aeon Shopping Mall in Yanagi-cho, in addition to Komeda Coffee Shop in this Yayoi-cho. Currently, there are only four stores, including the new Starbucks Coffee store under construction in Suehiro 3-chome for an opening in spring. As mentioned earlier, the only street-front store at present is Komeda Coffee Shop Tomakomai Yayoi Store, which is quite crowded even on weekdays. One of Komeda's characteristics is its wide variety of drink menu, especially with a large lineup of cold drinks compared to other cafe chains. On the other hand, their coffee menu is not as extensive, with no espresso-based coffee options, making their menu more similar to a coffee shop rather than a cafe. Their food menu mainly consists of sandwiches and spaghetti, setting them apart from other cafe chains. I visited during a less crowded time in the afternoon on a weekday, luckily finding an available counter seat at the back of the store. This seat was a spacious counter seat facing the wall, separated by large wooden partitions every two seats, ensuring privacy from neighboring seats. There were also outlets available, making it convenient for working on a laptop. I ordered a large-sized "Plenty of Milk Coffee" and enjoyed a leisurely reading time with a paperback book I had started reading. Today's title was the final volume of the popular series "Kinryo Tsukamichou" by the popular historical fiction author Hidehito Ueda, titled "Keiso". After about an hour of reading and finishing my milk coffee, I left the store. As mentioned in the review title, a Starbucks Coffee street-front store is scheduled to open in the spring. It seems that a drive-thru will also be available, and it is located just over 2 kilometers away from this Komeda Coffee Shop Tomakomai Yayoi Store, taking less than 10 minutes by car. (I usually order the mini size) "I'm really hungry right now so it's fine," so I decided to order the regular size after a long time, but in the end I thought, "It really is big..." "I told you so, didn't I?!" It looks similar to a regular Shironoir, with a cherry on top. The pudding-flavored sauce is good, but the slightly bitter caramel sauce on top is really delicious! This caramel sauce is a winner! Inside, there's no cream or anything sandwiched, just the sauce. But that was just right! There were three types of picks. This time it was a bunny~. I came here because I love the combination of orange and chocolate! I ordered the Orange Chocolate Choux and Croissant both. They are a collaboration between Orange Page and Komeda Coffee. The Orange and Sweet Red Bean Choux in mini size is 580 yen, and the Orange and Sweet Red Bean Croissant is seasonal and 680 yen. I also got the Dessert Set C with Ice Milk Coffee for 960 yen. The orange flavor is quite strong and tangy! The sweet red bean in the choux is sandwiched in the Danish pastry, while in the croissant, it's packed tightly in the middle hole (lol). But honestly, I don't think the sweet red bean is necessary... I would have preferred more orange sauce or chocolate inside. Adding sweet red bean makes it too sweet and heavy, so I think it would have been better with just chocolate or orange. The Ice Milk Coffee was delicious, tasting like coffee milk. "July 2022 Revisit" After missing the timing for lunch and having a late meal, I felt like having some coffee. I also wanted something slightly sweet, so I decided to order the dessert set that comes with a mini size of Komeda Coffee's classic menu item, the "Shironeko." For the drink, I went with another classic, the "Komeda Blend." It was a classic combination of a classic drink and a classic dessert, truly embodying the essence of Komeda. The Shironeko is a dessert where soft serve ice cream is topped on Danish pastry with sweet syrup drizzled over it. Since it's not made with whipped cream, the top part tends to melt quickly and should be eaten first. The bottom part, unlike pancakes, is not very sweet, but it comes with honey or other syrup. In addition to the standard version, Komeda sometimes offers limited edition Shironeko with different toppings based on the season. While Komeda Coffee's food menu is generally on the pricier side, the desserts are quite filling and offer decent value for money. However, when you just want a small sweet treat alongside your drink, the options are somewhat limited. I always find myself wishing they had half-size options for their sandwich menu. On the way back from Chitose, I passed through Tomakomai, so I finally got to visit Komeda Coffee, which I've been wanting to go to for a long time. It's been about 4 years since my first visit in Osaka. I couldn't forget the Shiro Noir, haha. I also tried the limited-time Shiro Noir "Waka" this time. It was a set menu with a drink for 880 yen, and I added an extra 100 yen for a Komeda Black Coffee. It was as sweet as I imagined, and the sesame sauce was also sweet and delicious. My child got a sandwich and honey iced coffee, which was very sweet and they couldn't finish it. Be careful because it's very sweet. There was someone ordering shaved ice, and it looked delicious. I'd like to come back during the morning hours too.

I had been curious about the Comedare Chicken Katsu Pan for a while. It's quite big so it's best to come when you're hungry. I happened to be nearby during lunchtime so I decided to stop by. They haven't started serving shaved ice yet, starting from June 6th. The sauce is indeed spicy and it's quite messy, dripping everywhere as you eat... It drips a lot! The cabbage and sauce keep falling off. I wish they had provided wrapping paper like they do for hamburgers. I eat chicken katsu a lot at Katsuya, but I don't usually have it with bread... Recently, there have been a lot of "I've seen this before..." type of desserts, so I hadn't been coming, but I decided to try this unique Japanese-style Shironoir before it ended. I made it in time! (It was until mid-June) The Shironoir Wagakoro Croquembouche also has a Japanese flavor, but the Baumkuchen is a bit heavy so I went with this one. The kinako (roasted soybean flour) sauce has a strong nutty flavor. It goes well with the black sesame sauce! The black ground sesame is also good! "March 2022 Revisit" This is my third visit to Komeda Coffee Tomakomai Yayoi store. This time, I ordered a generous size Soy Milk Latte and a Mini Combo Basket. In Komeda, they call it "Latte" instead of "Ole". Most coffee menu items can be upgraded to a generous size for an additional 100 yen, so I did that this time. The Mini Combo Basket includes a sandwich and two pieces of Komeda's fried chicken "Kometchi". It's a perfect size for a light snack. The sandwich can also be changed to a toasted sandwich, which was a nice option. The sandwich was satisfying, but the chicken pieces were a bit small. The seating area is spacious, and I chose a counter seat at the back, so I wasn't bothered by other customers. There are also outlets available, making it a comfortable place to stay. However, Komeda Coffee is generally on the pricier side, but you do get large portions. It would be great if they could offer half-size options for sandwich items at a slightly lower price. I would love to try dishes like "Katsu Pan", but the full size is too much for a middle-aged man like me (laughs). Total cost: 1,130 yen (Soy Milk Latte - generous size 570 yen / Mini Combo Basket 560 yen).

This winter, even in the Tomakomai area where snow is scarce, there were a few days when heavy snow fell. On a day when my wife and I went out for the first time in a while, it suddenly started snowing around 10 a.m., and before we knew it, there was so much snow that the road surface was covered even on the national highway. When we arrived at Komeda's, it was the most intense time of snowfall, and several staff members were desperately clearing snow in the parking lot. The inside of the restaurant was crowded with many customers, despite the ongoing pandemic. I ordered my favorite Neapolitan spaghetti, while my wife ordered a pork cutlet and bread set, along with coffee. It took about 10 minutes to place our order. Before we could even feel stressed, our dishes were served. The thick pasta was chewy and slightly different from what I usually eat at home, making me feel like "Ah, Neapolitan from a cafe♪". My wife enjoyed the pork cutlet and bread. Both the Neapolitan and the pork cutlet were generously served with plenty of cabbage, which was a nice touch for health reasons. We also purchased some bread for souvenirs at the checkout, and we were impressed by the friendly service and well-trained staff.

I went to Komeda Coffee Shop, Tomakomai Yayoi branch! I entered to adjust the time, as it is a suburban store, the building is exactly the same structure, right? The bright interior has an open feeling and is comfortable. Until 11 o'clock, they have a morning menu. I had toast. Komeda Blend for 450 yen, with handmade egg paste. The service was quick, in about 3 minutes. The coffee, as always, was served in a large mug with plenty of coffee. It has a mild bitterness, making it easy for anyone to drink. The toast had the usual fluffy texture. When you put the egg on it, it transforms into a sandwich-like taste, which is delicious. I didn't know this before, but when it comes to Komeda, they have "Shiro Noir". I have to try this first... Komeda Coffee Shop will have a new opening in Obihiro next month. I originally wanted to try the white peach flavor, but it was sold out, so I chose the La France with condensed milk and soft serve mini instead! The rice bowl bento I had in the car didn't fill me up, so I rushed into Komeda that appeared on my way. The mini size of the Shironeko (Shironeko) was just right to satisfy my hungry stomach. I ordered a milkshake, a drink that I have been curious about for a while. It's a luxury drink that I loved as a child, and seeing the words "milkshake" always makes me a little excited. From the food menu, I chose the "Mixed Toast" sandwich, which seemed a bit too much for breakfast. It would be nice if they offered a slightly smaller portion menu like a "Morning ○○" with reduced volume until 11 am. If they lower the price by about 100-200 yen and keep it under 1,000 yen including a drink, they might attract more customers besides the morning service. One thing that caught my attention was the offer of "toast as a service with a drink." Wait, didn't I also order the Mixed Toast? Well, maybe some big eaters enjoy having both at the same time, but I wish they had a service like "If you don't want the morning service toast, we will give you a 50 yen discount on the separately ordered Mixed Toast!" As for the taste, the milkshake is delicious, but the container seems a bit too fancy. Well, children might enjoy it. The toast is also tasty, but as mentioned earlier, it might be a bit too much for breakfast. If I have the chance, I would like to try their burger menu as well.

At the Komeda in Yamagata, the shaved ice season started on May 8th, so I thought it might be available now and went to check. However, they told me that the Tomakomai store will start serving from June 2nd, so I had to come back again. We ordered the following shaved ice flavors: La France, White Peach, and Grape. I wanted to try it in Yamagata, the home of shaved ice, but it seems like Hokkaido starts serving shaved ice later. We all got the "mini size with condensed milk" option. The normal size looks like a "washbasin" and is served ice-cold, which is quite an experience (laughs). I chose the White Peach flavor, but my companion's La France flavor was the favorite among us. The presence of fruit pulp in it made it even more delicious. I definitely want to try the La France shaved ice again. It was a delicious meal!
