April came in a flash... This time, I purchased a (!?) item that caused a stir in the industry. It was from the Seven Eleven Tsukikita Higashi 5-jo store near Nango 7-chome Station.
<Trigger> The other day, I received a flyer at a certain Seven Eleven, and it said "Donuts on sale from April 2nd". I was surprised, is it finally happening? Although the store where I saw the flyer was not the one I visited, I happened to stop by another Seven Eleven where they were selling the donuts, so I decided to buy some.
<Store> Wow, they are really promoting it... Among the counter fixtures next to the register, the donut-specific fixtures stand out. Even though it was nighttime, there was a good variety of donuts, with a solid lineup. When I asked the staff, they said, "This is the only store in Toyohira Ward." I see! The lineup consisted of 5 types, in 4 rows, from top to bottom:
1st row: Fluffy Ring Donut @ 110 yen
2nd row: Chocolate Old Fashioned @ 100 yen
3rd row: Whipped Donut @ 110 yen
4th row: Chewy Strawberry Ring Donut @ 100 yen
Kinako Donut (with soy milk) @ 100 yen
So, I bought the popular 1st to 3rd rows.
<Let's eat> I wondered about the in-store processing at Mister Donut compared to Seven Eleven... There are somehow differences until they are displayed in-store, right? I'll skip the details, but this time's donuts were honestly so-so. (At this point, in terms of taste alone, Mister Donut might be better) (But Seven Eleven is overwhelmingly easier to purchase) However... what fills that gap is Seven Eleven's technical prowess. They will surely improve in various aspects, right?
<Thank you for the meal> It feels like it was just the other day... Seven started selling coffee in 2013. In the next fiscal year (2014.03~2015.02), their annual target was 700 million cups! This had a huge impact on various formats, including McDonald's. Each convenience store placed a coffee machine next to the register, changing the scene of consumers buying coffee. In the fiscal year 2015 (2015.03~2016.02), one of Seven's initiatives was this "Donut", with expectations of a synergistic effect with coffee. When I was writing this review, I checked the Seven Eleven "store search" on the internet... Oh, there is a "Donut" icon...

So, there might already be a "Donut-selling Seven" near your town???
What do you think will happen to this "Donut expansion" in a year? And what impact will it have on the industry? Furthermore, what will be Seven's initiatives in the fiscal year 2016? It was an exciting move in the constantly evolving CVS format. Thank you for the meal. (^^ゞ
