Located just a short walk from JR Hakodate Station, this restaurant is tucked away at the back of Hakodate Asaichi Donburi Yokocho. When I asked the local restaurant owner for recommendations, they suggested Maruishi Shokudo. The place was bustling with customers even in the morning. I ordered a seafood bowl with Botan shrimp as one of the toppings, which cost 500 yen per piece. I also chose fatty tuna and sea urchin. The miso soup came with the bowl. The Botan shrimp had a firm texture, but lacked sweetness. The thinly sliced fatty tuna and sweet sea urchin were delicious without any fishy taste. If you're in Hokkaido, it might be better to choose a set meal rather than a seafood bowl at the market. However, seafood is generally delicious in Hokkaido, so keep that in mind.

Maruishi Shokudo: I was all excited and went to the morning market in Hakodate, but it was crowded as expected during Golden Week. I had a few options in mind, but couldn't get a seat anywhere and ended up here. Although there were empty seats, it was actually quite busy and I had to wait a long time after sitting down. The taste was just average. Maybe I should have just gone for a Lucky Pierrot burger instead of forcing myself to have seafood...

I visited this place for breakfast today. I chose the restaurant based on intuition and feeling, without checking reviews. It is located on the outskirts of Donburi Yokocho, but has a nice atmosphere. It seems to be run by a young couple. Their friendly service is very pleasant. I ordered the morning market set. They grill the fish belly after taking the order. It was served in about 15 minutes. The seafood bowl I was looking for had sea urchin, salmon roe, scallops, salmon, and fatty tuna. The rice is topped with seaweed and shiso leaves. The rice is sweet and delicious. The seafood is divided on top of the rice, so it doesn't get mushy. The portion is small for women, but the quality of the seafood is good. The scallops are sweet and moist. The salmon roe is plump and juicy. The sea urchin is sweet and creamy. Both the fatty tuna and salmon are satisfying in taste. They also served salted squid as a complimentary dish. I am aware of the market price, but this dish would cost much more in Tokyo. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived at the morning market at 1:45 pm. Most shops at Hakodate Morning Market start closing after 2 pm. However, there was a place called Maruisi Shokudo that was open until 3 pm and I was sure they would serve a delicious seafood bowl!! I decided on my order after looking at the menu with photos placed in front of the shop. Although the fresh squid was sold out everywhere, the seafood bowl I ordered was filled with my favorite seafood - sweet squid, scallops, salmon roe, and crab. It was a luxurious and delicious seafood bowl. The grilled mackerel was also fatty and delicious. Ah, it was so delicious, my stomach and heart were fully satisfied. On my way out, I received a complimentary mask. I definitely want to go back again.

Donburi Yokocho, right at number 1. There are 4 tables. Although it's self-service for water and barley tea, they poured it for us since we had the place to ourselves. The barley tea was a nice touch on a hot day! I was torn between the 880 yen Hachi-don and the daily special A, which came with ikura, scallops, salmon, yellowtail, and grilled salmon belly. It's a good deal since you can't choose the ingredients. Of course, there are also customizable bowls with plenty of options! The sashimi was fresh and delicious. The grilled salmon belly was sweet and not too salty, very tasty. They also gave us some delicious salted fish roe as a service. The rice portion was quite generous. I ordered the squid sashimi for 980 yen, Genghis Khan for 500 yen, and potato fries for 380 yen, all reasonably priced. They also offer an all-you-can-drink option for 500 yen at Kitari Glass. The service was polite and left a good impression. And to top it off, they gave us a Korean mask after we paid - probably because we were staring at it! It's not a facial mask, but Korean masks are known to be good quality, so it was a nice gesture. I'm thinking of trying the sea urchin next time. I wonder when that will be. Thank you for the meal!

I visited the restaurant on Sunday morning at 7:30. Due to the state of emergency, there weren't many customers at this time, so I decided to visit. I ordered saltwater sea urchin and crab because I wanted to eat them. The rice was delicious, and the miso soup was a little salty but tasty. The sea urchin was very delicious, but the crab was just okay. It would have been better to have it in a sea urchin bowl. The service was average.

Located at the north end of Hakodate Morning Market, on the west side of Donburi Yokocho, with plenty of coin parking nearby. The market's designated parking is free for 60 minutes with a purchase of 2,200 yen or more. The main dish was a seafood bowl, while the companion had sashimi and grilled fish. We chose the 3-color bowl with sea urchin, crab, and scallop (2,400 yen) plus salted fish eggs (200 yen). The sea urchin was excellent, comparable to sushi restaurants. The crab was a bit tough, probably not freshly boiled. The scallop was sweet and flavorful, and the salted fish eggs were to our liking. The miso soup was delicious, and the rice portion was generous. Personally, I would have preferred if the sea urchin had some uni (sea urchin roe). Overall, a great dining experience, and looking forward to coming back in the future.

I stopped by while on a drive. It was decent, although nothing special for us who are used to eating out. The cost performance is not great either. I ordered a single serving of squid sashimi, and it was really delicious!
