From today, even though it's September, the scorching heat continues. To escape the heat, I headed straight to Hakodate. However, unfortunately, Hakodate was hit by a storm. The weather on this summer trip to Hokkaido seems to be against us. With strong winds and rain making it difficult to go outside, I decided to relax in the hot spring and ponder while listening to the sound of rain. After soaking in the bath and enjoying a beer in my room, I felt refreshed. The post-bath beer always tastes so delicious. After relaxing in the room for a while, it was finally time for dinner in a private room on the second floor. The meal included a variety of dishes made with fresh seafood and local vegetables. Each dish was beautifully presented and delicious. The hospitality and peaceful atmosphere of the inn made the experience even more enjoyable. Despite the storm outside, the warm hospitality and exquisite cuisine made the trip to Hakodate worthwhile. I couldn't help but smile. Let's hope for clear skies tomorrow...

On August 17, 2023, my wife, our youngest son, and I stayed at Yunokawa Onsen in Hakodate for one night with meals included. It had been 20 years since our last visit to Takabashinhatei. When it comes to the three major ryokans in Hakodate, they are Wakamatsu, Ichinomatsu, and here, Takabashinhatei. I wanted my wife and son to fully enjoy the charm of Yunokawa Onsen. The room we stayed in surprised our youngest son. The welcome sweets were delicious, and the complimentary matcha service was nice. Bathing in the hot spring while looking at the bamboo grove is not something you often experience in Hokkaido. Dinner was served in a private room. I wish we had opted for in-room dining. The menu included a variety of dishes, all of which were delicious. I wanted to eat more rice, but unfortunately, I was declined. The next morning, we had breakfast in the same place. When you think of Hakodate, you think of squid, but it was pure white and transparent. The "Inca no Mezame" potatoes got me excited! The pink salmon was also delicious. Overall, it was satisfactory. Despite it being the tourist season, there were no inbound tourists, so we were able to enjoy the hot spring inn without encountering many other guests. However, I may have splurged a little too much this Bon holiday season at Yasujika.

March is our wedding anniversary, and today is Hinamatsuri, so we decided to treat ourselves to something luxurious. It's nice that it's not crowded here, and we practically had the bath to ourselves. We also had a private dining room, so we didn't have to interact with other guests. The hina dolls on display were very charming. The food was decent, but for the price we paid, I expected something a bit more special. The assortment of small dishes was tasty though. We had the "Calendar Meal." The breakfast was served in our room, so we could stay lazy in our futon. The Komagatake milk served at breakfast was in a special bottle from Takeba Shinyotei, which was a nice touch. They always provided cold water in our room, and the coffee was a self-serve machine with paper cups to take back to the room. Overall, it wasn't bad, but as we passed by Hanabishi on our way home and saw the staff waving goodbye, I couldn't help but think that I'd rather stay at Hanabishi twice for the same amount of money than stay here once.

This is a ryokan in Yunokawa Onsen. I chose to stay here because they offer room service for meals. This time, I upgraded to a higher grade plan for the meals. The dishes featured abundant use of Hokkaido ingredients such as abalone, squid, and hairy crab. The steak I ordered as an extra was flavorful and delicious, despite being slightly rare.

I recently treated myself to a little luxury as work has been busy and I haven't had much time to rest. Each dish had intricate and delicate seasoning, showing thoughtfulness in every bite. The textures and flavors were well-balanced and delicious. The room was a traditional Japanese style, adding to the overall calming atmosphere that complemented the delicious food even more!

Today's breakfast is at Takabashin'yotei in Yumoto Onsen, Hakodate City, Hokkaido. The staff greeted me a little before the scheduled time of 7 o'clock. Breakfast is served in a private room separate from the main dining area. They have squid sashimi here. A morning that makes you want to have a drink. With squid shiokara, spicy cod roe, Matsumae pickles, and other delicacies. It makes you want to ask for hot sake. There's also red salmon, tamagoyaki, and hirouzu with sweet and sour sauce, a wonderful Japanese breakfast. We also enjoyed dishes like chilled tofu and buttered potatoes. I visited the hot spring three times - upon arrival, before bed, and in the morning - but only encountered other guests once. It's a hot spring inn that provides a sense of safety and security, so I hope they continue to do their best. I leisurely enjoyed the hot spring until just before check-out. Thank you very much for your hospitality. Takabashin'yotei, 2-6-22 Yumotocho, Hakodate City, Hokkaido.

I set breakfast for 7:00, so I woke up at 6:00, took a quick bath, and then had breakfast. The Japanese meal set had a lot of dishes. I've been eating too much lately, so I only had a bowl of rice and finished all the side dishes. The milk that came with breakfast was delicious.

Check-in at 3:00 PM. Dinner starts at 5:30 PM. Until then, relax and unwind in the clear, transparent hot spring. The hot spring makes your skin smooth and silky. The hot spring was reserved just for us. Dinner was served in the room. You can see the menu and photos for details. The dishes were small but well-prepared. They were perfect as accompaniments for drinks, but since lunch was late, I couldn't eat much. It was a shame. I should have waited until I was hungry to eat. I had plans to go out, so I left without finishing my meal, so I don't have photos of the second half. (July 2020)

Traditional high-end inn Takebayashi with 18 apple trees... Surrounded by deep greenery, the pure Japanese architectural atmosphere is wonderful. I stayed at the Noguchi Observatory last time, which was the reason I passed by. Inside the BM building, there is a spacious dry landscape garden. There is also a dry landscape garden in a small space in the room and on the roof of the annex. I was planning to visit a local izakaya and bar in Hakodate at night, so I only had breakfast at the inn. The bathroom uses bamboo in various places, and the open-air bath is a healing space full of bamboo groves. Breakfast is served in the room. A dedicated attendant will tidy up the futon 30 minutes before breakfast time, and the meal will be ready exactly at the appointed time. It is a Japanese meal, and if you choose rice porridge, it comes with yukari. A full cup of fresh squid sashimi is included. You can enjoy the traditional hospitality of an old-fashioned inn.

I used this place for a work banquet! I always wanted to come here at least once... it's actually a hot spring inn, so I'd love to stay overnight, but it's a bit too fancy for a budget-conscious guy like me (^_^;) This time, our work banquet happened to be here, so I was lucky enough to "get in." Inside, it really feels like a high-class inn. If I didn't have business partners with me, I would have taken pictures everywhere (^_^;) The banquet served a kaiseki meal, and there was a splendid menu displayed. Of course, all the dishes were delicious. I'm not a fan, but there was even one with abalone and sea urchin on top (lol). It was the season for eel, so the finale was an "unadon," which made me happy since I had given up on eel this year due to the high prices ( ̄▽ ̄;) Thank you for the feast. I hope to stay overnight here someday! After this, we're heading to a hostess bar for the after-party ( ̄▽ ̄) By the way, this is a trivial story, but this post marked my 2000th restaurant review on Tabelog (^_^;)

I stayed at a luxurious inn for cherry blossom viewing purposes. Although the cherry blossoms at Goryokaku Park were not fully bloomed due to the rain, the food at the inn was delicious. I was served various dishes and when I was already full, the main dish of hairy crab was served. It was packed with meat and seasoned perfectly with salt, very delicious. If you stay in Hakodate, I recommend this inn!

Located a short walk from the last stop of the Hakodate City Tram, Yunokawa Station. It has a calm atmosphere and offers fine-grained services not found in large ryokans. The hot spring in the large communal bath is sourced from natural springs and has a gentle water quality. The meals feature carefully selected local ingredients. The sake served is the original Junmai Ginjo sake of the inn. I was soothed by the bamboo forest.

I came here to celebrate my father's 77th birthday in Hakodate. We arrived in the evening, soaked in the hot springs, and then the attendant came to our room to prepare for dinner. We started with an appetizer platter while waiting for the abalone to cook. The abalone was a good size and delicious. Then came an amazing sashimi platter with fresh botan shrimp, surf clams, scallops, squid, and sea urchin - all top quality and fresh. This was followed by tenderloin, grilled alfonsino (a choice of preparation), and hairy crab, a feast of Hokkaido gourmet delights. Everything from the seasonal botan shrimp and squid to the rice and dessert (sweet sake mousse) was delicious. As a Hokkaido native, I was impressed by the quality. The drinks were decent, and while the prices are on the higher side, the quality definitely justifies it. Overall, we were very satisfied with the food. Another plus was that there were no foreign tourists, which we appreciated.

Ryokan "Chikuba Shinyotei" in Yunokawa Onsen, Hakodate. Featured in the Michelin Guide 2017 Hokkaido Special Edition, it has been awarded 4 out of 5 stars, the highest level of comfort. The inn is very clean and the staff is polite. Incense is burned in the hallways. The hot springs are excellent, and the food is also amazing. For dinner, we were served a haskap liqueur as an aperitif, followed by appetizers like vinegar-pickled icehead tosa, and pickled fish from Onuma. Since we're in Hakodate, squid rice is also included. The soup was made with asparagus and junsai, and the sashimi featured squid caught that morning, bluefin tuna, flounder, and button shrimp. The button shrimp, with its delicious miso, was outstanding, and the freshness and tenderness of the squid stood out. The tender Ezo abalone was grilled with sea urchin, and fatty aburabouzu. There was also a dish called Kirin, which is a pumpkin dumpling. The king crab was served with basil sauce. For the finale, we had umeboshi hijiki rice with red miso soup. Even the Hokkaido melon for dessert was delicious. The portions were generous, with a focus on seafood and minimal meat. It didn't feel heavy at all. Breakfast was also luxurious and thoroughly enjoyable.
