Lunch at Bintang Cafe. A rare Indonesian restaurant in Hakodate. The interior is full of Bali vibes. Ethnic music playing continuously. Reminded me of getting a massage with this kind of Balinese music playing in the background... There are 6 seats at the counter. Tables, sofa seats, and a sunken kotatsu seating area are also available. The green-themed decor creates a nice atmosphere. The food includes Indonesian rice dishes such as Nasi Goreng and Mie Goreng. Also, Mie Kuah and Green Curry are on the menu. I ordered Nasi Goreng. The smell of fish sauce is appetizing. It may be off-putting for some, but I like it. The rice is suitable for Japanese taste. It's spicy but a good level of spiciness. I was told to try the chili sauce. I had a chance to chat a bit with the owner, who mentioned that he goes to Bali once a year and decided to open this restaurant out of love for the place. Impressive initiative. Thank you for the meal.

I was thinking about where to have a slow lunch, and suddenly remembered this restaurant that was featured in the town magazine. It was past 1:30 pm on a Sunday, and there were no other customers. I ordered the daily special Nasi Campur, which is usually 1,000 yen, but I used a coupon and got it for 500 yen. The dishes of the day were chicken leg stew, stir-fried bean sprouts with sambal, vermicelli, and coconut stir-fried pork belly with edamame. If you feel like it needs more spice, you can add some condiments (sambal and manis) provided on the table. I felt strangely calm sitting in the raised seating area. After the meal, I had a drink and relaxed. I want to come back again.

There is an Indonesian restaurant that appeared in Tomioka, and it was my first visit. It has a cozy atmosphere, with a counter as well. Although I was tempted by dishes like Nasi Goreng, I decided to try the Green Curry that is not available every day. It was quite spicy but light and easy to eat. There were plenty of chunks of chicken in it. The staff were also interesting and quirky, which might appeal to some people. The only downside is that the location is quite hard to find.
