Located on the 2nd floor of a building in Sapporo City, Chuo-ku, at 3-1-44 Kita 3-jo Nishi, the newly opened Seryu-en restaurant is attracting attention with its large advertisements on the walls of the concourse of Sapporo Station's underground passage. I visited on the first day of opening for lunch. The entrance to the building is not directly accessible from the underground walkway, so I had to go up to the ground level from Mireido and then take the elevator to the 2nd floor. The restaurant entrance was adorned with many congratulatory flowers and orchids. The lunch menu displayed at the entrance showed that the most cost-effective set was priced at 3000 yen. Inside the restaurant, the luxurious interior design immediately stood out. I was seated in a semi-private area and provided with a cloth to prevent oil splatters on my clothes and bag when hanging my coat. The Yakiniku lunch set for 3000 yen included grilled meat, salad, namul, kimchi, soup, rice, drink, and dessert. The grilled meat consisted of thinly sliced beef ribs and two black tiger prawns. The meat was tender, flavorful, and cooked on a gas grill that effectively absorbed the smoke. The sauce was slightly sweet with a hint of garlic flavor. The prawns were also delicious and added a nice touch to the meal. The Chorogi salad was simple yet appetizing, with fresh greens and cucumber in a light dressing. The miso soup was served piping hot, which was a nice touch. The namul included spinach, soybean sprouts, braised bamboo shoots, and daikon, all seasoned lightly and elegantly presented. The kimchi trio featured napa cabbage, kakuteki, and oi kimchi, with a well-balanced and flavorful fermentation. The rice was delicious, and the option for extra rice was available. The dessert, almond jelly, was a bit too firm and lacked almond flavor. The drink options included Calpis (peach) and coffee. Overall, the dining experience at Seryu-en was satisfying, and I look forward to trying their dinner menu in the future.
