I occasionally come to Obihiro for work and often end up finishing in areas like Kashiwadai, Nishi Obihiro, or Memuro. So, I haven't been to Obihiro Station in a while... I was looking around to see if there were any changes and I found "Outlet Tokachi Tokachi Daifuku Honpo" shop. They have a small selection of mochi products that seem to offer good value for money. I bought the "Black Honey Kinako Mochi @100" and "Daifuku @130". I was planning to eat them on the JR train, but I fell asleep and woke up at Shin-Sapporo station... What a blunder. So, I'll enjoy them at home instead. The Black Honey Kinako Mochi is soft like a baby's cheek, with black honey inside and kinako powder on the outside. When you bite into it, the black honey oozes out and the sweetness is just right. It's delicious, my wife also loved it. Highly recommended! It's a small pack with 7 pieces for only 100 yen including tax, isn't that cheap? The Daifuku is a larger size with a noticeable weight, soft mochi with sweet red bean paste. I was impressed by how soft the mochi was. I looked it up online and found out that they are made by "Tokachi Daifuku Honpo" in Makubetsu, and sold in Makubetsu, Ebetsu, and the Obihiro Station where I bought them this time. This is an outlet store of Tokachi Daifuku Honpo located in Esta inside Obihiro Station. The main office is in Makubetsu-cho, and they also have an outlet store there, but this one is convenient for travelers being inside the station. The products here are also sold in convenience stores and supermarkets. You can buy factory seconds and surplus stock items for about half the regular price. I was allowed to take photos of the products when I visited before, but was told it was not allowed on a different day. I think this is because the concept of the store is an outlet, and they consider the convenience stores and supermarkets. I have photos of the products in the store, but to avoid causing any trouble, I will upload images of the products I purchased at home this time. The product lineup changes depending on when you visit, so it's a surprise to see what they have. Sweet bean paste skewer for 60 yen, Dorayaki for 80 yen, Custard cream taiyaki with 3 pieces for 240 yen, Grass Daifuku with sweet bean paste for 200 yen, and Sweet potato paste Daifuku for 280 yen (These products were not all purchased in one day). The expiration dates are long, and I can't tell at all what makes them factory seconds. The mochi is soft, and the bean paste is just the right sweetness. All of them are really good, no misses here, hooray for outlets.
