Lunch at Matsuyoshi. The entrance has the small shop Matsuyoshi written on the wall. "Chakkoi" means small in Hokkaido dialect, and indeed, only two cars can park outside. Inside, there is a counter with 7 seats, a 4-person table, and decent space. The kitchen is spacious. They offer cold and hot soba, as well as rice bowls. I ordered the curry nanban. The soup was thick and the soba portion was generous. It absorbed a lot of liquid. The dish was quite spicy and delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I went for lunch on Monday. When I arrived a little after 11:30, there was one other customer - a taxi driver. I had to catch a train after 12, so I was in a bit of a hurry. I ordered the Katsudon set (1,100 yen) with Mori Soba. It was written on the sign as "Chakkoi Soba," which means "small." The restaurant had a nice interior with large tables, counter seats, and regular tables. The food arrived in less than 10 minutes - Katsudon on the left, Mori Soba on the right, and soba soup in the middle. It was a bit difficult to eat because the dishes were combined, so I had to bend down to eat. The Katsudon had thin pork cutlets and a strong, soy sauce-based flavor. The rice was tasty. The Mori Soba had a normal taste, and the soba soup was decent with a good bonito flavor. I finished my meal in about 7-8 minutes and headed to the station, which was a 15-minute walk away. I made it in time for my train. Thank you for the meal. 6/26/2023 3:05

It was my first visit to a soba restaurant along the Showa era national highway. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the sign above the shop read "Chakkoisoba-ya," and indeed, the shop had a small storefront. It seems like the only parking is in front of the shop, which can be a bit tricky. I ordered the Tsukimi soba for 700 yen.

I had noticed this soba restaurant here before, but never stopped by. Since the place I originally wanted to go to was crowded, I decided to try this place instead. It was not too busy, with only one other couple dining in and a delivery order. The menu was extensive and it took me a while to decide, but the lady serving us was quick to take our order. There were various Japanese-style items displayed on the tables, and I ended up buying one that I really liked. I chose the mixed soba with lots of ingredients, while my husband went for the ramen. Surprisingly, there were many different types of ramen available for a soba restaurant. The soba had a nostalgic taste, perhaps because of the nostalgic feeling brought by the wheat gluten in it, which used to be common in ramen. I left the restaurant feeling satisfied, enjoying the soba and the cute little items I bought.

Here.. I've been curious about this place for a while, facing National Route 5, and I thought the parking lot was only in front of the store.. But today.. I discovered that there is also a parking lot in the back through the gap with the neighboring store! I thought it might be a bit difficult to park in front of the store, so this makes it easier to enter! Looking at the menu, it's a typical soba restaurant in Hakodate. They have soba, ramen, and rice bowl dishes. Oh! Soba restaurants in Hakodate have a lot of places that also serve ramen. It's more like a cafeteria than a soba restaurant. I ordered the "Gomoku Soba" for 650 yen. Although I was also interested in the ramen, I decided to go with soba here. There are rumors that the portions are generous, so I ordered the regular size. It only took 5 minutes.. so fast!! It was brought to me. Well then.. let's dig in! It looks like a normal Gomoku Soba. The broth is on the lighter side, right? I don't really feel the broth strongly, and there isn't a strong saltiness either. I can taste a bit of sweetness towards the end. Well.. it's better than a strong broth. I think the noodles are better warm than cold. The portion size was.. not particularly large.. contrary to the information I had. Maybe I should have gone for a large size? (^_^;) Thank you for the meal! It was a really average town soba restaurant. Next time, I'll come for the ramen (laughs).

Along Akamatsu Street (Route 5), there are establishments like a samurai residence, Ramen Asahi, Seven-Eleven, and Meat House, suggesting intense competition among eateries. Tenhachi, a nearby soba restaurant, used to offer a 500-yen or 600-yen large soba, but it lacked a sense of value. I assumed they had closed down as the place was always dark when I visited at night. However, one afternoon, I happened to notice their blue flag and green curtain, prompting me to revisit after a long time. This time, I tried their Gomoku Soba for 650 yen. I still can't pinpoint what sets them apart from the nearby chain restaurants.
