Many acquaintances are fans of Gokataya's yokan. I bought a cute packaged yokan as a souvenir when we met during Obon. Even though the contents are the same, having different packaging gives it a special feeling. It's a bit heavy, but it's convenient to carry around at room temperature as a souvenir.

In the summer sale at Goshoteiya, they had a summer surprise bag. It contained 2 pieces of yokan, castella, and one manju. All for 1080 yen, which I think is a good deal. When you buy sweets, it always ends up being around 1000 yen. Having these at home, I always end up putting them in my children's lunch boxes.

I saw the old established store Gokatteya on TV, which is famous in Esashi. They were talking about selling round canned yokan "Katsute" made from a type of kidney bean called "Koukinji" that was used in the past. They received the Koukinji from the person who used to make it and started cultivating it. I went to buy it out of curiosity about the taste. At the store, they were selling the usual Taisho Kinji yokan, as well as one made from Akihare, considering the beans of today and the future. I bought both "Katsute" and "Korekara". I tried "Katsute" yesterday and "Korekara" today, but I couldn't really tell the difference. That's the kind of yokan you can expect from Gokatteya. The TV also showed how they make yokan, which reminded me of the good smell of sweet bean paste when I used to pass by Gokatteya's place in Esashi. The nice smell near a confectionery shop, like the nice smell of Mister Donut. Having a confectionery shop nearby is important to me. My daughter in Yokohama was also happy when she received Gokatteya yokan from her friend recently, so Gokatteya yokan is popular there too.

I received a precious gift of Gokatteya Honpo's sheep jelly as a New Year's greeting. This sheep jelly can only be eaten when received, making it a special treat. I checked their website and it seems that you can purchase it online. The sheep jelly is fun to eat as you cut it with a string. The Marukan sheep jelly (1 piece) is the oldest existing "string-style sheep jelly" from Gokatteya. Enjoy the traditional way of cutting it with a string. This is a complimentary item that reminds me of wartime. I wasn't born during that time, but it strangely feels nostalgic. I've always disliked ba-sama's favorite things, like yokan. Ba-sama loves it, so I hate it. I tried pushing the bottom to get the yokan out, but it wouldn't come out. Eventually, my finger got stuck and I ended up sucking on it. Despite being "sweet," the yokan has a smooth texture and a subtle bean flavor, making it delicious.

Marui Imai Hakodate store is celebrating its 130th anniversary with a Hakodate and Donan Fair. Goshoteiya is offering a Siberian sweet with the Marui logo on it, and I really want to try it. I mean, it's Goshoteiya's yokan, so it must be delicious. They said there are only 130 available. It comes in a beautiful box measuring 10cm on each side, and it's heavy - that's the weight of the yokan. It really has Marui's logo on it. When I opened the bag, it smelled like a good castella cake. This kind of smell is important. It had a satisfying texture and was deliciously moist.

Marui-san's Gokatteya corner seems to have expanded, and the decorations are cute. This year, I went to the New Year's sale early and was able to buy a lucky bag from Gokatteya. It's nice that the bag is not paper, and the contents were also introduced. It had typical items inside and was enjoyable. I also shared a little with my mother, as I like to share lucky bags.

This unique yokan from Gokatsuya Honpo, a long-established shop in Hokkaido, is a must-try for anyone from Hokkaido. You can push out and cut as much as you want from the bottom using a thread, making it convenient to eat without a knife. It has a sweet and sour taste, with a yellowish color and a flavor reminiscent of apricot. It's a nostalgic and delicious taste that I remember from my childhood. I bought it as a souvenir from Hakodate, and it costs 270 yen per piece. I sent the souvenirs I bought from Marui Imai home via courier.

Goshotei Yosendo's yokan is loved for both its design and taste. Instead of using azuki beans, they use sweet potatoes and shape them into cylindrical forms similar to Kabaya's Ju-C candies. It's fun to push up the bottom lid with your finger and cut it with the thread attached by cellophane tape. Unlike the typical sticky yokan that makes the knife slippery and hard to cut, this one is very easy to eat. It might actually be suitable for hiking. The taste is characterized by a high-quality texture and a pleasant lingering sweetness. However, the long model I bought this time is too long, making it difficult to push out with your fingers halfway through (lol).

I went to buy a Christmas package of yokan. It's cute, with the same contents inside though. The New Year's one seems to have white yokan and slightly red-colored yokan. It looks nice too. I'm thinking about who to give it to.

Marui-san was crowded with people buying souvenirs before Obon. There were some sweets that I wanted to try, but I didn't need to buy them today by waiting in line. When I looked at the Gokataya corner, there was a limited edition yokan at Marui Imai Hakodate store. The fireworks design is cute. The contents are the same, but it might be good to give it to someone during my visit home. It might also be festive to offer it at my aunt's grave. There are quite a few ways to use just one yokan. This is something that can be said because it's Gokataya's yokan.

Five Kachiteya Marukan Kan Yōkan from the prestigious northern family has been a familiar taste since ancient times. I recommend Five Kachiteya Marukan Kan Yōkan. You push it out from the bottom of the tube and cut the yōkan with the string attached to the tube. The top part is sweet with sugar (?), and when I was a child, we used to fight over it, but now we take turns. I also like the old-fashioned design of the packaging, which is cute. There are also normal bite-sized ones, but my favorite is the Five Kachiteya Marukan Kan Yōkan that I've been excited to eat since I was a child, cutting it with the string. When I gave it as a souvenir, I was told that it tastes a little different from other yōkan. They said it was delicious and liked it.

I purchased at the Anko Exhibition at Sapporo Mitsukoshi on October 13th! It's not Marui department store, but since they are affiliated, let's forgive that. (laughs) Of course, I was aiming for Goshotei Roll! It seems like it's been two years since they were last sold in Sapporo! I couldn't go to buy them two years ago, so finally, the time has come! I went to buy them on the first day of the event. When I arrived, it was clearly the most popular booth by far! I tried to line up, but was given a ticket for 30 minutes later, so I wandered around and spent money at other stores. (laughs) It was limited to 3 items per person, so I bought 2 Goshotei Rolls and 2 fig yokans. I really wanted to eat the Goshotei Roll right there, but it was handed to me wrapped in paper. I wanted to try it while it was still fluffy and freshly baked... (laughs) I microwaved it a little at home before eating. The dough was soft and chewy with a strong egg flavor! The anko was very refined and flavorful - delicious! The fig yokan weighed 36g each, with about 100kcal per piece. The chewiness of the fig and the classic Goshotei yokan were a perfect match! It was incredibly delicious! I'm not a big fan of yokan, but this was so delicious that I want to buy it again! (´ω`)

Sapporo Station. I found out from a review by Mairebi-san that I can buy Goshoteya Roll at Dosanko Plaza, so I came right away. Goshoteya Roll for 270 yen. I bought just one and enjoyed it on the go (=´∀｀). I feel like I want to go back to being a student and eat while walking, but I'm an adult now. I later enjoyed it in the free space on the second floor of Akarenga Terrace. It's small, but very soft and the deliciousness of the red beans comes through straight away.
