I wandered around Tokyu looking for something delicious to eat. A store clerk recommended trying a sample of baumkuchen. It was just a small bite, but I was happy to have a sample. They said it was softer than the usual baumkuchen. Intrigued by the enticing name "pure butter pound cake," I ended up buying both varieties. I like the idea of Yuheim not going against nature and not using additives.

Subtitle: "Which stop is this for me now?" On January 2nd, 2017, I bought a "Vanilla Cake" from Yuhaim at the department store's New Year's sale. The price was 540 yen including tax, and it had a diameter of 15cm - quite big! When I cut it open, I realized I'm not very good at slicing it neatly. The sponge had visible vanilla beans, and it was filled with buttercream. Time to dig in! The sponge was fluffy, but the vanilla scent wasn't as strong as I expected. The buttercream didn't stand out much, and the sweetness was mild. Overall, I think it was delicious, but I wish it had a bit more sweetness. I still have half left, so maybe I'll add some whipped cream to it. Bon appétit!

For me, Baumkuchen is something that I can only find in the Yuheim series, as I don't like overly buttery and rich versions, and I prefer ones with a solid icing. That's why when it comes to buying souvenirs for myself, Yuheim's Baumkuchen is always my top choice. Today, I bought some from the Tokyu store as a gift for my hometown visit. They only had the 2015 Baumkuchen Turm in a ring shape, so I got a box of Liebesbaum (10 pieces) and Schokoladenbaum (10 pieces). Liebesbaum is a convenient size version of the classic Baumkuchen, while Schokoladenbaum is wrapped in milk chocolate. It's not a chocolate-based Baumkuchen. After trying them, Liebesbaum had the usual reliable taste, and I actually preferred Schokoladenbaum over the chocolate dough versions, even though it's apparently a limited winter edition.

I have received various gifts, and Baumkuchen, which I have been familiar with since I was a child, is always delicious. I don't buy cakes often, but when I happened to pass by, I noticed a cream puff with plenty of whipped cream. It was a vanilla cream puff. The whipped cream was full of vanilla beans. I have seen custard cream with vanilla beans, but I haven't seen whipped cream mixed with them very often. Lately, I have been craving cream-filled sweets like SweetS, so I had to have this! I immediately took it home and enjoyed it. The cream puff had a crispy shell, and inside, there was only whipped cream. It was a bit surprising, but I was happy about it. I wonder if this product has been available for a while? I wish I had noticed it sooner. It was a delicious meal.

This restaurant is a well-known traditional German confectionery shop in Kobe, founded by Mr. Uheim who first demonstrated Baumkuchen in Japan before the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome was destroyed during the war. The shop has its roots in the German confectionery shop established by Mr. Uheim. While Mr. Morozov, a contemporary, remains a famous brand, the founder himself disappeared overseas. The shop has been run by the wife for a long time, with Japanese apprentices playing a role in the post-war reconstruction. Despite being on the Axis side, similar fates were faced by Ferragamo and others. Toyota and Honda have done remarkably well. Croquembouche is a must-try here. The first time I tasted whipped cream was a memorable experience. Although I still prefer buttercream, the emergence of chocolate, ice cream cakes, and whipped cream has revolutionized the world of confectionery. The appearance of whipped cream was a game-changer in the world of Western sweets. The 1940s saw a significant change in the world of confectionery, similar to the revolution brought about by fondue in French cuisine. Sapporo caught up later, but ice cream cakes were still available during the Olympics. However, all shops quickly transitioned to whipped cream. Although some old shops still offer limited buttercream options, most now import from specialized shops in Chiba. In terms of whipped cream experiences, there may not be a better shop than this one. Croquembouche Torta is my favorite, a simple and supreme delicacy with choux pastry and whipped cream. I always end up buying it, with occasional indulgence in the original Baumkuchen. I prefer German and Austrian confectionery, such as Demel's Sachertorte. A nostalgic tradition for mainland students was to be sent to a department store to buy German pastries, and this shop might have been the one.

It's a bit of an old story, but on Christmas 2022, we received a cake at our house. We already had another cake prepared, so it took us three days to finish the cake. The box had a sticker from "Yuheim Tokyu Sapporo Store" on it, but I don't know the name of the product. It was a half-sized roll cake decorated with whipped cream and chocolate, and there was also a "Flokken" cake. The whipped cream on this cake has a buttercream-like taste, which feels a bit nostalgic. Personally, I don't have any special attachment to it, but my wife says she likes the taste. The fluffy and moist sponge goes well with the cream. The cake got a bit deformed on the way home because it was shaken, but it was delicious. We look forward to next Christmas. Bon appétit!
