I visited this sushi restaurant recommended by a friend from Hakodate, and we opted for the chef's choice course. We started with beer, but then switched to a variety of delicious sake. The sushi was amazing, and there were also many dishes that paired well with the sake. The combination of food and drinks was perfect. We ended up spending around 10,000 yen per person, which I think is quite reasonable for the quality. I would love to come back to this sushi restaurant when I visit Hakodate again! 😏✨

This is a wonderful restaurant that I don't want to tell too many people about. The owner is getting older and doesn't even display the noren curtain. It seems to be by reservation only. There are countless sushi restaurants in Hakodate. There are Michelin-starred restaurants and famous ones that everyone knows, but this is the best for me. I hope it continues for a long time. I wish I had known about it sooner. I will try to visit as often as possible.

The atmosphere is a bit intimidating at first, but when you open the door, it feels calming. Looking at the menu, the top-grade option is 1800 yen. (What!? Top-grade for 1800 yen...) When thinking about that, the owner says, "The top-grade comes with 10 pieces of sushi, while the regular comes with 8 pieces and a roll." I decide to go for the top-grade. The owner has a good pace. I only take one photo because I want to enjoy the moment. Starting with 2 pieces of tuna. "We brush soy sauce on top, so if you need more, feel free to add." The tuna melts in your mouth. The sushi is small and can be eaten in one bite. Next is flounder, shrimp, abalone, scallop, surf clam, crab, squid, and finally sea urchin. The surf clam, crab, and squid are served with sweet soy sauce. The squid is paired with ginger instead of wasabi. The pickled ginger is not too sweet, providing a refreshing taste. It's nice that they have a no smoking policy when non-smoking customers are present.

The location of Kinju Sushi is a little before the Takarai-cho tram stop on the left side from the Juzi-machi tram stop, with Curry Koike on the left and Tonkatsu Tontetsu on the right. The restaurant has a retro atmosphere reminiscent of the Showa era, which is strangely calming. The nigiri sushi is a bit on the pricier side, with the regular set at 1200 yen, the premium at 1400 yen, and the special at 1800 yen, making it quite reasonable. I ordered the special set, which included 10 pieces of sushi: 2 pieces of tuna, flounder, shrimp, abalone, scallop, surf clam, crab, squid, and sea urchin. The sushi is served with soy sauce already brushed on, which is a nice touch. The tuna seemed to be only the lean part, but it was delicious. The squid had a nice texture with crosshatch cuts, and the sea urchin had a sweet touch that made it surprisingly tasty. The other pieces were also fresh and delicious, although I would have been happier if there was some soup served as well. The hostess initially provided a small dish of soy sauce, but since the sushi already had soy sauce brushed on, I wondered if it was necessary.
