Located along National Route 36 in Tomakomai City, there is a restaurant called "Katsuya." I happened to be nearby for errands, so I decided to stop by for lunch. The interior of the restaurant is set up like a chain restaurant with both counter and table seating. The place was almost full, likely due to it being lunchtime, and there were also many customers coming in for takeout, indicating that it is quite popular. They offer a variety of menu items using cutlets, such as rice bowls, set meals, and curry. I ordered the classic "Katsu Don (plum) for 539 yen" and "Tonjiru (small) for 132 yen." The dishes were ready in about 8 minutes. The cutlet in the rice bowl had a crispy coating and tender meat, and the quality exceeded the price. Even the smallest size "plum" was quite filling, and I left satisfied. While "Katsuya" is a nationwide chain, I believe that all their menu items are of high quality and provide great value for money, making it a recommended choice when craving cutlets.

I hurried to go there because it was limited to 500,000 meals, but at the Katsuya in Tomakomai, it was limited to 60 meals per day. Be careful because you won't be able to eat it if it exceeds 60 meals. Katsuya's Noriben, even though it's a bento, feels a bit strange to eat in the store, but it's a Katsuya-style Noriben with plenty of fried food on top of the plate with okaka and seaweed. Of course, it can also be made into a regular bento. The red wiener is strangely delicious. It is fried after being carefully incised, so it is fragrant. Speaking of Noriben, there is Isobeage with chikuwa. Instead of white fish fry, there are shrimp fry and karaage. Potato salad is sandwiched between the ham cutlet. I hate tartar sauce, so I'm glad it's served separately! And the pork cutlet in the pork miso soup set meal keeps getting smaller every time I see it... It's hard to cut... Katsuya-style Noriben, eat it quickly if you want to!

I didn't immediately go for the Uma-ni (simmered horse mackerel) option, but since I really love Katsuya's sauce katsu, I decided to go for it. It was quite healthy with plenty of vegetables, so it was totally fine. As expected from Katsuya, the Uma-ni part was also very delicious. It was even better than I had imagined. It was almost like a hot Eight Treasure Stir-Fry with a hot sauce all over it. It was like a sauce katsu donburi, and it was really delicious. I wish they would make the sauce katsu donburi a regular menu item instead of the sauce katsu donburi. Thank you for the meal!

I went to try the new menu one day late, starting from March 10th! ★ Chicken meatball and chicken cutlet mixed rice bowl 790 yen The catchphrase is "Three balls, one chicken", but all the balls are chicken meatballs, so technically it was four chickens (lol). This set is irresistible for chicken lovers. I was imagining something like tsukune when I saw "chicken meatball" written, but it turned out to be a chicken mince cutlet with tomato sauce and cheese on top, giving it quite an Italian finish. Surprisingly, the tomato-flavored chicken cutlet was delicious as well. The chicken cutlet quietly placed in the back has a sauce flavor, so you can enjoy the difference in taste. I'm not a big fan of mince cutlets, but the chicken mince was very tasty. Thank you for the meal! I was feeling exhausted from the ongoing decluttering that I'm not good at, but this meal gave me energy!

At the beginning of January, there shouldn't have been a shortage of eggs like this... Lately, it's been hard to find eggs anywhere, so this katsudon has become a precious menu item. I don't like katsudon with egg on top, so I actually prefer this katsudon with bonito flakes and egg! Without the egg on top, the katsu stays crispy right next to the runny egg. The egg has a gentle flavor from white dashi and green onions. But since this is Katsuya, it has a hearty and rich taste that goes well with rice. It's a new and interesting katsudon that is different from katsumeshi or katsudon, and it was really delicious! Thank you for the meal!

During dinner time, I visited Katsuya along National Route 36. I decided to order the "Double Cutlet Set Meal for 990 yen (excluding tax)" instead of the safe option of a cutlet bowl. The waiting time was about five minutes. The cutlets were small in size, but there were two of them. The meat was about 5mm thick, 70mm wide, and 120mm long for each piece. The breading was made of fresh breadcrumbs, so it was crispy but a bit chewy when eaten. The set meal came with miso soup, which had a light broth and a mild miso flavor. The sliced cabbage was a bit thick and hard to eat. It was a bit disappointing that there was only sauce and mustard available. Another satisfying meal.

Wow! The menu has changed! (It was newly released on November 4th) So I came back to try it out. My husband doesn't really like Katsuya, so I come when he's not around. I ordered the Beef Belly Yakiniku and Chicken Tender Cutlet combo set. My companion ordered the usual Tonjiru (pork miso soup) set. For the Tonjiru set, you can choose between loin cutlet and fillet cutlet. There were new additions to the menu like Miso Chicken Cutlet and Tartar Chicken Cutlet! I'm curious about the Miso Chicken Cutlet... The Beef Belly Yakiniku and Chicken Tender Cutlet combo set in a bowl costs 869 yen including tax. The Tonjiru set costs 979 yen including tax. The Beef Belly Yakiniku included beef belly meat stir-fried with large pieces of onions and two large Chicken Tender Cutlets soaked in sauce. Katsuya's Chicken Cutlets are always delicious, so I really enjoyed the Chicken Tender Cutlets as well. I love Katsuya's sauce-covered cutlets, so I hope they bring back that menu item. The beef belly yakiniku with the flavorful sauce was delicious, but since I don't like onions, I kept putting them on my companion's plate, which made them smile (lol). I enjoyed the delicious Chicken Cutlet menu after a long time! Thank you for the meal!

I also ordered salad and miso soup. It came out with a mischievous look, with lots of green onions on top. Although it says pork BBQ, the sweet seasoning reminds me of the pork bowl from Tokachi. The amount of meat is generous. A mixed bowl of pork cutlet and pork bowl is something I've never seen even in Tokachi. Only Katsuya can serve this. In August 2022, the special menu of shrimp cutlet and chicken cutlet combo is priced at 690 yen. I was happy to be able to try it on the first day of its release on August 17th. Lately, I have missed out on many limited-time menus, so this combination of shrimp cutlet and chicken cutlet is quite unique and exciting. The shrimp cutlet comes with tartar sauce, while the chicken cutlet comes with a special sauce. The chicken cutlet made with chicken breast meat is light and fluffy, making it particularly delicious. Additionally, they have quietly introduced a new menu item called "Full Power Egg" for 100 yen. It's a boiled egg with a firm yolk and a spicy seasoning, perfect for when you need a bit more protein. Yes, it's delicious! It's an omurice curry, so it's creamy with the egg making it even tastier! The fried sausage is surprisingly tasty too, nice and crispy. The chicken cutlet has tartar sauce on it, but also some other sauce (laughs) And a huge shrimp fry on a bed of cabbage!! Honestly, I wish there was a bit more curry... There's just too much filling (laughs) They had a "topped Katsudon" before, and they really put effort into creating menus that customers would enjoy. It's a mischievous menu! I've tried other menu items a few times, but I always end up going back to the regular katsudon. The restaurant is clean and perfect for those who want a hearty meal in a short amount of time. The "Spicy Broth Chicken Cutlet Set Meal" that was released on March 25 for 759 yen has ended. It's said to be an evolved version of the "Red Spicy Cutlet Bowl". The chicken cutlet dipped in a thick red sauce in a pot. On top, there's cabbage and shredded red chili peppers. And green onions. There's less cabbage than usual. I took a bite... Wow, it's spicy, seriously spicy! I was imagining something milder, but it's really strong. Not medium spicy, but spicy. Some may have mixed feelings about the fish powder, but I like it! The umami of the broth is heard within the spiciness, as it's labeled "spicy broth". The fish powder has a light and delicious fragrance. But... where's the cabbage?! There's usually more, right?! I was planning to eat Demi Chicken Cutlet in January, but by the time I finally went, they had already switched to a new menu. I missed out on the first meal of 2022 at Katsuya. From January 28th, they had switched to offering Pork Cutlet and Pork Stamina Yakiniku Don for 690 yen, and a set meal for 790 yen. The mayonnaise was generously served, which paired well with both the cutlet and the grilled pork, adding a nice flavor. This time it was a pork cutlet, so it was a mix of pork and pork. Oh! They also included pork miso soup, so it was a pork triple (laughs). The stamina yakiniku had a strong garlic flavor, with garlic miso sauce. It had chunks of large onions mixed in. The flavor was quite intense, so I used the cabbage as a palate cleanser without any dressing. It was a hearty and indulgent meal. A bit on the junky side in terms of flavor. However, compared to the usual amount of chicken cutlet, the pork cutlet portion was a bit... lacking. (about 3 slices) But in the end, I was full (laughs). By the way, the first limited menu of the year was "Sesame Tantan Chicken Cutlet," so Katsuya in 2021 started and ended with Tantan Chicken Cutlet... On Saturday morning, I visited a new restaurant where there were 3 groups of dine-in customers and 5 groups of take-out customers. The freshly fried food was enjoyable, so many housewives opted for take-out. I wanted to try a variety of things, so I ordered a set with shrimp, pork cutlet, and minced meat. The waiting time was a bit long at 8 minutes, but it was worth it for the freshly fried food. The pickles served as a side dish were good with the fried food. The pork miso soup was delicious and felt more satisfying than regular miso soup. However, as I got older, the oiliness started to become a bit overwhelming. It was a shame that I couldn't fully enjoy the minced meat at the end because of the oiliness. Next time, I might go for a simple pork cutlet bowl.

Katsuya comes up with these kinds of ideas and no one stops them, which I love (laughs). The dish looks like a brown forest, and no matter how much you eat, it doesn't seem to decrease - it's amazing. With four different types of katsu, I enjoyed changing up the flavors, but I found that the rice wasn't enough (laughs). There's also cabbage underneath, making it like a salad katsudon. However, the daikon radish softened slightly from the heat of the katsu, combined with the garlicky salt sauce, is a perfect match! I love the tonkatsu at Katsuya, but this time I tried the rosukatsu instead of chicken katsu! It came with beef yakiniku as well, making it a really hearty meal. Rosukatsu is actually quite rare at Katsuya, where 90% of the tonkatsu is chicken. The rosukatsu definitely adds more weight to the dish. With the beef yakiniku, it was a heavy and satisfying meal that went really well with the rice. It was a dynamite menu that was even heavier than usual. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Wow... I never expected to be able to eat a Gapaorai that looks like a cafe menu at Katsuya! But the chicken cutlet is as reliable as ever. Nice to see you again! The chicken part is spicier than I imagined! But it's okay! The aroma of nam pla? The spiciness is mellowed out by the onsen egg and cabbage. Perhaps because it is supervised by a Thai restaurant, the taste is much more authentic than I thought. This is my first time trying Gapaorai, so I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to taste, haha. It's definitely worth trying, a unique creation from Katsuya...!! The collaboration with the world is just too interesting...!!
