グルメハンター・酔いどれ天使
1-1 Kita 3 Nishi, Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, in the basement of the Fushima Kita 1-jo Building B1F. It is located along the Ekimae-dori street from Sapporo Station South Exit to Nakajima Park. As you descend the stairs to the basement, you will see a signboard with the restaurant's name and a large photo of ramen. There used to be a wooden sculpture of an old lady which gave a slightly scary impression, but it seems to be gone now.
Entering the restaurant, you will be directed to the counter where there are a few solo customers. Despite the cramped counter seating, I opted for a table. As expected, only solo customers came in after me. I ordered the ramen and half-fried rice set, with an additional flavored egg. The ramen comes in miso, salt, or soy sauce flavors, and I chose miso. During lunch hours from 11 am to 4 pm, you can get free extra noodles or rice.
The ramen was served with a messy presentation, and the portion of chashu was small and disappointing. The soup had a typical miso flavor and the noodles were mediocre, lacking a good texture. The garlic and spice condiments did not enhance the overall taste. The stir-fried vegetables in the soup seemed undercooked. The flavored egg was more like a boiled egg, lacking the expected marinated flavor. The half-fried rice was served hot but lacked a strong flavor profile.
Overall, my experience at the iconic Hokkaido restaurant, Ajino Tokeidai, after about 20 years, was disappointing. Looking back at the menu, the recommended "Tokeidai Ramen" with flavored egg, butter, and 2 slices of chashu for 980 yen seemed like a better choice.
