During my visit in August 2023, I tried the Ebi Fry (fried shrimp) for 460 yen at Jundock. I had heard about this Asahikawa soul food from the guide on a bus tour in Biei and Furano. I saw it being sold at the station on my previous visit but didn't buy it then. Since I wasn't sure when I would be back in Asahikawa, I decided to get it this time before heading back to Sapporo after having ramen at Aoba. The Ebi Fry was prominently displayed at the kiosk and souvenir shop in the station. It was a bit pricey at 460 yen each. I chose the Ebi Fry quickly and bought it. I planned to enjoy it on the train with the classic and fried chicken I bought from Seicomart on the way to the station, but the fried chicken filled me up. So, I took it home to eat later. The package instructed to microwave for 2 minutes and let it steam for 5 minutes. The package featured the words ASAHAMA ZOO and a picture of a polar bear. I cut along the perforated edge after 5 minutes. Surprisingly, there was no seaweed, which I had expected for the onigiri-like shape. The flavor was subtle, with a slightly sweet soy sauce taste on the Ebi Fry. It wasn't incredibly delicious, but it might be good for kids in sports clubs. I also noticed the spelling confusion between Jundock and Jundog. After looking it up, the official website confirmed it as Jundock. It seems to offer Western-style onigiri and Japanese-style hot dogs. The price used to be in the 300 yen range.

I visited the "Hokkaido Shikisai-kan Asahikawa Nishiten" on December 26th, probably for the second time. The main purpose of my visit was to purchase the "Jundog," which is considered a soul food for the people of Asahikawa. I had tried it once before, but this time I bought it as a souvenir. I purchased shrimp fry for 460 yen, chicken cutlet for 460 yen, and sausage for 460 yen, buying all the varieties available at the store. The prices seem to have gone up since the last time I bought them. I think they were 400 yen last time. The official store in Asahikawa is the "Pigeon-kan," but unfortunately, I have never visited there. The Jundog is like a hot dog version of the rice burger. I looked into which one came first, and it turns out that Mos Burger's rice burger was introduced earlier. The manufacturing method of Jundog is patented, so other manufacturers need to develop their own methods to avoid patent infringement. I briefly looked at the patent content, and it seems to focus more on the recipe than the shape. The item is sold as a refrigerated product, so it needs to be heated before eating. Last time, I heated it in the microwave for 2 minutes and let it steam for 5 minutes, but I think I overcooked it. This time, I left it to the microwave for 80 degrees heating and steamed it for 5 minutes, and it turned out just right. I tried the sausage flavor this time, and I noticed that the sausage also has a coating. Comparing it to the rice burger, the rice in the Jundog is plain without any seasoning. Apart from extending the shelf life by providing it as a refrigerated product, the Mos Burger rice burger series might be a better value for money. If you're interested in trying Asahikawa's soul food, I recommend giving it a try. Thank you for the meal.

I went to Hokkaido Shikisai-kan Asahikawa Nishiten! I took a look to see if there was anything interesting, and I found it - ramen! I decided to try the instant bag noodles from "Tenkin" that I haven't tried in the actual store yet. I chose the "Menma Ramen" because it was the only option available. It was delicious! As expected, Asahikawa ramen is tasty with a perfect balance of soy sauce, tonkotsu, and fat. The richness and flavor are amazing. Even with bag noodles, it was delicious. I had it as a late-night snack, so I'm trying to stay awake. Thank you for the meal!

Welcome.---------- August 2021 ----------At the line for the ticket gate at Asahikawa Station (there's also a Seven Eleven, perfect for grabbing some snacks on the way back from a trip|o| °д°)ノ Hello, as expected from a kiosk, they have a variety of local specialties and products, perfect for souvenirs and snacks typical of Asahikawa. So, I bought some cheese and sausages to enjoy with a lemon sour while being transported to Sapporo. That's the essence of traveling, isn't it? Local sake is delicious, right?

I came across Jundok and I was drawn in ♬ They were also selling it at the station... It's probably the same, but I'll buy some after a long time ♬ I'll have it as a snack with beer...♪*゚Of course! I'll browse through various items... (゚∀゚≡゚∀゚)キョロ...【Tamakoro】♬ The name is cute, and since it's made with onions from Kitami, it must be delicious...♪*゚It must be full of sweetness and umami... for sure...♡What's that? It won the Grand Prix at the Croquette Festival? Wow~ ( * ॑꒳ ॑* )I'm weak against limited-time offers and grand prizes! I easily fall for them... hahaI imagine the sweetness of the onion as I put it in my basket (*´∀`)Now... starting the evening with croquettes and Jundok ♡... Is this phrase outdated already? hahaI succeeded in frying them to a crispy texture ♬ Inside, there are onions, tuna, and mayonnaise. The gentle and delicious taste comes from slowly and carefully sautéing to bring out the sweetness. The potatoes... seem to be absent... so it's a moist and smooth croquette ♬ This is delicious ♡ I'll buy it again...♪*゚Thank you for the meal~ (๑´ڡ`๑)

I came to the Hokkaido Shikisai-kan Asahikawa Nishi store inside JR Asahikawa Station. It looks like a kiosk. Let's see what to eat. I heard about this from an acquaintance - the Ebi Fry Jun Dock for 400 yen. I ordered it and had it warmed up in the microwave. It's shrimp fry wrapped in rice. The seasoning is light, just a hint on the shrimp fry. It's tasty, but in terms of value for money... it might be tastier at a shop in Biei. Thank you for the meal!

After purchasing some snacks at a soba shop inside the station, I bought tickets for the train to Sapporo, including a special express ticket. Before passing through the ticket gate, I decided to buy some alcohol, so I stopped by the shop where I bought Jun Dog during my trip in November. This shop offers a wide variety of local products, including great options for pairing with alcohol, which is very convenient. This time, instead of getting Jun Dog again, I opted for something more manageable and settled on the "Octopus Tempura" from their series of processed foods. I also chose a 350ml Sapporo Classic beer and paid at the register. I then boarded the train to Sapporo, the "Lilac," and enjoyed my snacks and drink as we departed at 5 pm. The Octopus Tempura, which cost around 130 yen, came with 3 pieces, so it was quite filling. The taste was classic and satisfying, just like regular tempura. As I regretted not buying more alcohol, I spent about an hour and a half on the train until we finally arrived in Sapporo. It was time for my redemption trip (my previous trip was ruined by a cold), so I stepped onto the platform with determination.

I am alone in Asahikawa. I drank last night, so I can't drive back while still feeling the effects of alcohol. I checked out of the hotel and walked around near the station with my backpack. I stumbled upon a place called "Shikisai-kan" which seemed like a kiosk. I like processed food, so I picked "Ebi Satsuma Age" and "Namara Kamaboko". I warmed them up, but they were not delicious. The shrimp one was surprisingly not shrimp-flavored, which I only realized the next day. The other one was okay, but it was nothing special. This place, just like my wife, doesn't seem to care about serving tasty food. It's a rare experience to find something that tastes bad, as usually even average food is not bad. This place is just like my wife, lacking the desire to serve delicious food.

This is Asahikawa. This time, my stay in Asahikawa is only 4 hours. I didn't have time to eat at all. Even though I didn't have time, Keipon-sensei told me that I must leave some record of my stay. A good student follows the teacher's advice! So, I decided to buy some cream puffs from Umeya at Asahikawa Station. You can buy them in Sapporo too, but there is significance in buying them in Asahikawa. Umeya's cream puffs have a mysterious mix of fresh cream and custard cream that is just so good. The double cream puffs with separate layers of fresh cream and custard are also delicious, but these ones are irresistible. The choux pastry is slightly moist and the deliciousness is just perfect for one bite. I wish I had bought more. Thank you for the feast!

The station has been renovated and it finally feels like a proper station after not visiting for a while. Today, I'm here alone for work. The station has greatly improved and I have a good impression of it. It feels like a hotel lobby, unlike Sapporo. Maybe because it's a terminal station. The local snack this time is from Umeya, a famous brand in Asahikawa. It's an old-fashioned soft skin snack that goes well with cream. I want to take my time and explore more next time. It was a truly blissful moment.

I had purchased this before and was looking to buy it again. I was surprised to see that the price had gone up quite a bit, but since it was originally cheap, I thought the new price was reasonable. Recently, I couldn't find it at airports or antenna shops, but I happened to discover it here. Even though it's a convenience store, it's located inside a train station so they have a lot of Hokkaido souvenirs, including local bento boxes. The Kabocha Nabe dessert looks like a pumpkin. It has a pie crust wrapped around a body filled with kabocha (pumpkin) paste, and it also contains a red bean paste bun. Despite looking sweet with the pumpkin's sweetness and red bean paste, it's surprisingly not too sweet. It's quite heavy, so I recommend cutting it into pieces to enjoy. It's moist and easy to eat. For pumpkin lovers, this snack is irresistible.

I'm not having breakfast at Tiffany's, but on a JR train, enjoying the freedom to eat. I'm heading to Sapporo and decided to fuel up before the journey. This time it's a 2-night, 3-day eating tour, combined with other events. I knew there was a Jun Dog here, so I rushed in at 7:30 when the shutters went up and got a warm one. I chose the shrimp one and enjoyed it on the train, washing it down with Ebisu beer. There's nothing better than this bliss!

I visited before the third wave hit. It's been a while since I've been to Asahikawa!! Time flies when you're having fun. It's time to head back now... Asahikawa Station has become quite beautiful, I noticed as I looked around... And then I found it. *Jundok (400 yen each) Once you find it, you can't resist buying it... Asahikawa's B-class gourmet, Jundok!! It's a one-hand gourmet where fried ingredients are wrapped in rice. It's like a combination of onigiri and hotdog divided by two!! I bought the shrimp fry and chicken cutlet. The key to enjoying it is to microwave it until it's super hot!! I always think it's a bit expensive, but I just love it for some reason... *Okokkope Fermented Butter Cake (270 yen) It has a strong butter flavor and is delicious, but the texture was a bit crumbly. Considering the price, it might be a bit disappointing in terms of quality... And funny enough, I found it being sold at the Hokkaido Ace in Sapporo as well (laughs). I had a great time in Asahikawa♪ We stayed at a very cheap price using GoTo, so we were talking about going again soon!! But now it seems like the atmosphere is not suitable for traveling, which is a shame. Hopefully next year, we'll be in a situation where we can travel without any worries♪

Jundok is a type of soul food around Asahikawa. It's like a Japanese-style hot dog, with the bread part being like rice. I tried it out and it was like warm sushi rice without seaweed. It was like a sushi roll without seaweed. It was tasty! I might try it again in the cold weather next time.

Asahikawa Station became elevated at some point. There used to be shops and bento stores on the platforms, but now they are only on the concourse. There is a kiosk right outside the west exit, where you can find the famous Asahikawa specialty, Jundog. I bought the chicken cutlet for 400 yen. I heated it up in the microwave and enjoyed it. The small chicken cutlet inside was nothing special, but the slightly dry grains of rice were delicious.
