I visited "Shigeru" for neighborhood exploration, just a 1-minute walk from Akebonobashi Station. This time, as the organizer, I gathered my favorite group of friends. I made the reservation around mid-September, about a month in advance. Unlike some popular restaurants with the rule of "reservations accepted one month in advance," this place didn't have such restrictions. Despite being a local sushi spot, it has been quietly gaining popularity, mainly because it's very affordable. They offer two courses, priced at 3000 yen and 6500 yen, and we opted for the latter. The counter seats about 8 people, and the owner handles all the cooking and sushi-making, making it a bit hectic. We started with a toast and were served simmered celery with eggs, which served as a decent appetizer. The yellowtail, medium-fatty tuna, and barracuda sushi were all excellent, much better than those overpriced sushi places in Ginza. The only issue was the smoke coming from the grill right in front of me, which made my eyes sting. The steamed sushi with fish bones was a surprising dish, with a unique taste and aroma. The crab and asparagus dish was unexpected but delicious, with a sweet crab flavor. The hikari rice, which was served cold, reminded me of a traditional Japanese inn breakfast. The scallop steamed sushi was elaborate, with a delicious combination of textures and flavors. Personally, I'm not a fan of this type of sushi rice, but it was still enjoyable. The gizzard shad lacked a bit of acidity, but the red-fleshed horse mackerel was exceptional. The cured mackerel was also outstanding, with a perfect balance of saltiness and acidity. The uni and toro hand roll was a simple yet delicious dish. Overall, the meal cost around 7000 yen per person, which was quite affordable. This sushi restaurant, although not exactly a local spot, was a typical neighborhood gem. Thank you for the delicious meal.
