"In April 2023, during my first visit, I stopped by 'Bensuitei,' operated by Sapporo Station Tachiyurikai, which is a shop that serves standing soba and station bento. There are two standing soba shops on the platform, one inside the ticket gates, and one outside the ticket gates that sell station bento. There used to be another shop outside the ticket gates, but it closed due to the Hokkaido Shinkansen extension project in Sapporo. Previously, 'Bensuitei' at JR Sapporo Station was listed on Tabelog as both a soba shop and a bento shop, but now the soba shop has been split into two separate listings for each shop. This means that the bento shop should also be listed separately since they are in different locations with different operating hours. In this review, I will introduce the 'Station Bento Bensuitei Inside the Ticket Gates South Side Shop.' Although the official website of 'Sapporo Station Tachiyurikai' refers to the shops as 'Bensuitei Various Shops' without specific shop numbers, Google Maps clearly labels it as 'Bensuitei Inside the Ticket Gates South Side Shop,' as does JR Hokkaido's 'Sapporo Station Store Information.' The shop that has been on Tabelog for a while is the 'Station Bento Bensuitei Inside the Ticket Gates North Side Shop,' and it seems to be the main shop due to its early opening hours and high traffic flow. This 'Inside the Ticket Gates South Side Shop' is located near the central escalator that leads to Platform 1 where trains depart from Track 2, close to the south side toilets inside the ticket gates. It may be slightly less noticeable to those not using trains to Teine or Otaru. Additionally, the high flow of people in this area can make it somewhat inconvenient to use. Personally, I have only used the 'Inside the Ticket Gates North Side Shop' before, so this was my first time using this shop. This may be more due to the late opening hours rather than the location. This time, I purchased the classic 'Ishikari Bento,' a type of makunouchi bento, which includes grilled salmon but doesn't seem to have much relation to the naming and ingredients beyond that. In addition to the grilled salmon, it includes sukiyaki-style beef stew, tamagoyaki, kinpira, simmered scallops, kamaboko, tempura, pickled kombu, simmered beans, and more, all well-balanced. However, compared to the amount of rice, the side dishes may seem a bit lacking.
