The company that owned the franchise rights for Maido Ookini Dining seems to be undergoing a change in business format, with Tamafuji restaurants increasing throughout the entire region. The location where the Ooyuki Street Dining was located is now a Tamafuji restaurant. It's easy to enter when coming from the city center, but being on a busy corner is a drawback. The parking lot is surprisingly not very spacious, making it a bit of a hassle to visit. Finally, I managed to visit the restaurant. Inside, they are currently having a "Hokkaido-inspired Thick Cut Fair". I'm not particularly picky about thick cut tonkatsu (it can be difficult to eat if it's too thick), but they recommended the 180g Toro Umami Roast Katsu Set, which is now available for 2050 yen instead of the usual 2280 yen. I'm the type to easily give in to such offers. Additionally, if you register as a new friend on LINE, you get a free chicken katsu or shrimp fry. I quickly registered for that. You can choose from three types of miso soup and rice. I chose the five-grain rice with tororo kelp miso soup. Rice, cabbage, and pickles are refillable. It's a sesame grinding type here, so you have to grind it yourself. I waited for about 15 minutes, and then the meal arrived. It's quite impressive. There are smaller sizes available, but if this is the default size, I'm worried it might be too big for families. However, I noticed several couples and families dining there. The sauce comes in sweet and spicy versions. There are so many choices. I thought the spicy sauce would be good at first, but surprisingly, the sweet sauce was delicious. The roast katsu has a decent amount of fat but it's not off-putting and tastes delicious. The lean part is tender, and there's no unpleasant smell like imported pork. I thought it would be just decent chain restaurant quality, but it's thick yet easy to eat with a satisfying taste. They generously refilled the cabbage when I asked for it, and I even got a second helping of white rice. The staff, both in the kitchen and the dining area, are very polite and attentive, offering refills as needed. They are kind and helpful. It's not the typical fast-food standardized service; it's more personalized and friendly. The atmosphere is great, except for the supermarket-like J-Pop instrumental BGM, which is a bit out of place. Overall, it's a chain restaurant that doesn't feel too commercialized, making it very user-friendly.
