2. What is Sushikuni?
Sushikuni, located in the Tsukiji Outer Market, opened in November 2009. It has a rating of 3.56 on Tabelog and 4.3 on Google Maps (as of May 10, 2023). It is known for its original overflowing sea urchin bowl and is often referred to as the number one seafood bowl in Tsukiji. When it first opened, sea urchin was not as readily available in Tokyo, and it was not a common delicacy. Sushikuni is known for more than just sea urchin, and this time we had a seafood bowl with sea urchin and next time we plan to try the original overflowing sea urchin bowl.

Tsukiji Sushikuni is located down the third alley from the main street when coming from Tsukiji Station. The exterior of Tsukiji Sushikuni is small and charming with a green sign and tiled roof. We visited on a Monday after Golden Week at around 2 pm, and there was no line at that time. Tsukiji itself was not as crowded as expected, with fewer tourists after Golden Week.

4. Menu and atmosphere of Tsukiji Sushikuni
The menu at Tsukiji Sushikuni includes the original overflowing salmon roe bowl (4,200 yen) and the original overflowing sea urchin bowl (6,500 yen). The seafood bowl is priced at 3,800 yen, which may seem slightly higher, but it is standard for Tsukiji. The interior of Tsukiji Sushikuni has a similar feel, with a photo menu displayed at the storefront. We were particularly interested in the "toro, suki-mi, uni, and ikura bowl," which was on discount and made with natural bluefin tuna. We ordered this dish. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is cozy, with green plates and tea cups. There were also foreign customers, and the staff were friendly and provided good service.
5. The toro, suki-mi, uni, and ikura bowl we had at Tsukiji Sushikuni
Wow. Toro, suki-mi, uni, and ikura bowl @ Sushikuni Tsukiji. The bowl consisted of bluefin tuna, chutoro, akami, suki-mi, ikura, and uni topped with shiso leaves. The balance of flavors was excellent, with each ingredient being soft and fresh. The bluefin tuna was tender without any sinew, and the fatty part was not overpowering. The sushi rice vinegar was just right. The bluefin tuna was delicious without any complaints. The ikura was also bursting with flavor, providing a delightful pop in the mouth. However, when it came to the uni, it was not as impressive as expected. It had a slightly bitter taste, which was surprising.
