Los Angeles store has won two Michelin stars for the second consecutive year. It has been featured on various TV shows in Japan, such as Ad Street. On the Sunday of the three-day weekend, I planned to eat around Harajuku, but all the places I wanted to go to had long lines! It was mid-September, but the temperature was 34 degrees, so I was looking for a place without a line and ended up walking all the way to Omotesando. I arrived at this place after about six months since my last visit on Sunday at 14:15. There were 9 groups waiting for revolving seats and no one waiting for standing seats, so I think everyone doesn't want to wait for standing seats. I received a waiting ticket for standing seats. After waiting for 10 minutes with no call, I asked a staff member and found out that there are only seven standing seats available. I was lucky because the staff member confirmed that there was exactly one seat available and offered to guide me there. Later, I checked on Tabelog and found that there are two entries for revolving and standing seats. The standing seats are not really standing, but more like a sushi counter where the chef stands on the other side. I was lucky because it was right behind me. I was sweating from the walk, so I quickly drank a cup of cold water. Now, it was time to order. I started with the fried food that takes time. I ordered the large-sized lower leg tempura, along with kampyo rolls and mayo-based gunkan sushi. I wanted to order miso soup, but I saw a large poster at the entrance advertising half-sized red miso ramen, so I decided to go for that. First, the kampyo rolls arrived. I noticed that the sushi rice here is red vinegar rice. Then came the mayo-based gunkan sushi, followed by the red miso ramen. Even though it was a half portion, it came with a generous portion of char siu and was delicious. Next, the lower leg tempura arrived. It was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious, but it only came with salt, no tempura dipping sauce. After eating about half of it, I ordered authentic sushi - three types of tuna (otoro, chutoro, akami), uni gunkan (limited edition purple sea urchin), medium fatty tuna gunkan, and ikura gunkan. The sea urchin gunkan was indeed delicious at this price point, but I wished it had a bit more sweetness. Both the ikura and medium fatty tuna gunkan were top-notch for a revolving sushi place! Well, the prices are also top-notch for a revolving sushi place... In reality, there are lanes but no sushi going around. The three types of tuna came with wasabi on the side, but the wasabi wasn't very potent. I paid at the register with the clip that had my seat number written on it. The total was 5640 yen including tax, and I was able to pay with a card. It turned out to be a unexpectedly luxurious lunch, but it was delicious. I finished eating around 15:20, but there were still many people waiting, with about half of them being foreign tourists. Well, it's no wonder that there are many foreign tourists here since the American branch of this restaurant has won two Michelin stars.
