I visited Ura Onikai for the first time. The main store is located on the second floor in Naka-Meguro, hence the name "Onikai", and because it is on a back street in Hatchobori, it is called "Ura Onikai". The interior of the restaurant exudes a stylish retro-modern atmosphere reminiscent of the Taisho era, with two separate spaces each featuring a counter. The restaurant offers a unique blend of traditional sushi craftsmanship and innovative, forward-thinking sushi creations. They hold Onikai meetings where they brainstorm ideas and conduct taste tests. I was pleased to see the effort put into making each dish delicious, rather than just focusing on novelty or uniqueness. The attention to detail and dedication to enhancing the flavors of each dish was evident and appreciated. I ordered the Ura Onikai limited course menu with a secret menu item included, priced at 12,500 yen. The meal included various sushi dishes such as marinated herring hand rolls, smoked mackerel, and hand rolls featuring minke whale and young ayu. Each dish was expertly prepared and presented, showcasing the chef's skills and dedication to quality. The highlight of the meal was the smoked mackerel, which was smoked right in front of us, infusing the fish with a delightful smoky flavor. The herb roll featuring cress, myoga, arugula, basil, and red sprout daikon was a standout dish for herb lovers, with complex flavors and aromas. The nigiri sushi course featured a variety of fish, including cutlassfish and blackthroat seaperch with Nara pickles. The meal concluded with a unique dessert-like dish called Monaka, which combined sea and land ingredients in a delightful way. Overall, the dining experience at Ura Onikai was a delightful journey of flavors and textures, showcasing the chef's creativity and dedication to quality. It was a truly enjoyable meal.

Hatchobori Uraoni-kai, 11,000 yen counter with two counters, one for 5 people and another for fewer people. The second floor seems to be a bar affiliated with the restaurant. The sushi place felt more like an izakaya with a slightly unpleasant smell. The course meal didn't keep the excitement going, and I couldn't fully enjoy it. It seems like they are struggling to keep up with the expansion of their stores. The portions were generous, leaving me full. The tuna was from Ishitsukasa and Hachishu Suisan. If you're curious about Uraoni-kai, it might be better to start with Honten in Nakameguro. The grilled fish felt dry and had a bone in it. The sushi rice had a slight acidity, and the seared fatty tuna hand roll was excellent. The surf clam had a subtle smell, while the Isaki was good. The seared herring was okay, and they served raw herring instead of Kohada. The grilled eringi mushroom, soy sauce-marinated mackerel, and smoked eel were good. The shrimp tempura was okay, and the amberjack, mackerel, and southern bluefin tuna were marinated. The comparison between medium fatty tuna and southern bluefin tuna was good. The deep-fried whole eggplant and white squid were good. The eel was unique, and the mustard lotus root and egg omelet were tasty. The miso soup was good.

It was my first visit but I was very satisfied. They served rice wine wrapped in seaweed as a welcome treat! The red vinegar rice was delicious. The tuna roll had Otoro, Chutoro, and Zuke - a luxurious combination. The Hokki clam from Hokkaido, the Takabe aged for 4 days, and the vinegar-soaked Kohada were all delicious. The marinated herring from Shizuoka was also tasty. The shrimp tempura roll was a must-try. The Kinmedai Emperor, the Aoyagi Mountain Range, and the dried Kamashita were all flavorful. The fried eggplant with Hokkai clams and the tuna Zuke were delightful. The two types of Chutoro from Australia and the authentic Maguro from Oma were a treat for tuna lovers. The grilled white eel was rich in flavor. The sweet and square-shaped Tamagoyaki was a hit.

I was able to visit the popular restaurant by registering on the waitlist for reservations and getting a cancellation. The taste was excellent, and the presentation was enjoyable, such as the hand-rolled tuna sushi and the smoke show right in front of us. The staff were friendly and provided service with just the right amount of distance. It was a very pleasant dining experience, and I will definitely visit again.

This was my first visit to this restaurant. Online reservations are convenient. It operates on a time limit, with entry at 18:00 and exit at 20:00. I ordered the wine pairing course for 15,000 yen. The first drink I had was a Premium Masters Dream draft beer, which was excellent. I have high expectations for restaurants that serve delicious draft beer, and this one did not disappoint. The course mainly consisted of sushi, and the red vinegar rice had a nice balance of vinegar, sugar, and salt. Each piece of sushi was well-made and served at a good pace. I also ordered the limited edition uni and ikura, as well as an extra tuna roll. With the additional orders, the total came to nearly 20,000 yen, but considering the taste and portion size, I was satisfied. I would definitely like to visit again.

[Waiting Time] No reservations required [Reservations] Reservation only by phone or Instagram [Estimated Budget] 15000 yen [Features] There are a total of 5 restaurants in the same series, where the head chefs and presidents of each restaurant gather once a month to come up with menus. It seems that each restaurant has a different secret menu, but apart from that, the course contents are almost the same. This allows you to enjoy a course of sushi that embodies the dedication of the 5 restaurants. Unlike traditional sushi restaurants, you can enjoy a creative approach that is tailored to modern tastes. The course was a series of delightful surprises, both visually and in taste. The cost performance is amazing. There is a female sushi chef who is very passionate and dedicated to her craft, which made me a fan. [Atmosphere] Only 14 counter seats available. The unique feature is that there are 2 counters, each with a chef standing behind it. The counters are divided into 9 and 5 seats, creating a cozy and relaxed atmosphere akin to a hidden gem. [Food] Exclusive Urasonikai Course 12500 yen, including 15 pieces of nigiri, 3 small dishes, and 1 secret menu item. - Eel with Sansho Pepper: The eel was tender and delicately flavored with mountain pepper. - Corn Sesame Tofu: The texture was chewy, and the sweetness of the corn was enhanced by the consomme-like jelly. - Sushi Hand Roll with Vinegared Mackerel: The mackerel was sourced from Akita and had a distinctive taste due to the use of red vinegar. - Three Types of Tuna Hand Roll (from Akita): The tuna was caught using a longline method, specifically chosen for its suitability for sushi. - Que: Aged for a week, resulting in a very tender texture. - Scallop: Thick and served with salt to enhance its sweetness. - Vinegared Sardine: The sardine was marinated for 2-3 days, offering a unique flavor. - Shrimp: A large shrimp served in a marinade. - Mackerel Sushi with Smoked Flavors: Mackerel from Suruga Bay, smoked and served as nigiri. - Tempura Shrimp Sushi: Tempura supervised by a Michelin-starred chef, crispy and rich in flavor. - Seared Golden Eye Snapper: Thick slices of snapper with rich fat content, served as sushi. - Gizzard Shad with Vinegar: A refreshing dish with vinegar and soy sauce. - Medium Fatty Tuna Sushi: A comparison between Southern Bluefin Tuna and Bluefin Tuna, both delicious but with different flavors. - Winter Shiitake Mushroom Sushi: Topped with bonito flakes for a fragrant touch. - Winter Melon and Crystal Chicken Breast: Made with winter melon and crystal chicken, seasoned with a rich broth. - Ankimo from Aomori Oma: Fresh and creamy, with no unpleasant smell. - Simmered Conger Eel: Simmered without boiling, then kept warm on bamboo leaves for added aroma. - Tuna and Kujo Leek: ==========

Encouragement meeting for a new journey Located near Hatchobori Station, on a small path, with a very serene feel, the interior of the restaurant also has a calm atmosphere. The W-shaped counter seats allow for simultaneous service, which is surprisingly interesting. The omakase course with alcohol pairing is popular, with a strong emphasis on red vinegar. The fatty and delicious sushi pairs well with the drinks. The performance of the chefs in front of you is a highlight, and the restaurant's specialty dishes are still as good as ever. The menu has a cohesive theme with some unique twists. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

The dishes were all made with great ingredients and care, and they were very delicious. The chef is young and handsome, and his conversation is never boring. There was a smoked performance in the middle, which was visually enjoyable. The drinks were also very tasty. It's a wonderful sushi restaurant perfect for special occasions.

It was very delicious. Not only the taste, but also the chef's explanation of the ingredients was interesting, making it a true sushi show. You could feel the chef's love for sushi, making it a wonderful experience. The course was fulfilling and satisfying. I especially liked the smoked mackerel. I would love to go again.

I heard from a friend that Onikai in Nakameguro is good, so I tried to make a reservation several times but couldn't get the timing right. When I checked their website, I found out they also have a branch in Hatchobori, and luckily I was able to make a reservation for the following week! I booked the secret menu and wine pairing course. It was my first time pairing red wine with sushi, and I was excited! [Food] The shop is known for its tuna. The tuna rolls and medium fatty tuna sushi were both delicious with just the right amount of fat and a great mouthfeel. The vinegar in the sushi rice was a bit strong due to red vinegar. The rice was firm but fluffy when molded, and had a great mouthfeel! Each sushi was seasoned and cooked to bring out the best in the ingredients, and each serving brought a fresh surprise. They even showed us how they smoke mackerel in a smoker and made a roll that looked like a carnation for Mother's Day using whale meat, demonstrating their high level of service and entertainment value. [Drinks] The wine paired wonderfully with the sushi. It was my first time pairing red wine with sushi, and it was surprisingly a great match! I was told that they select wines that complement the acidity of red vinegar. The wines were not too acidic when drunk alone, but had a solid flavor. They were so delicious that I ended up drinking too much. There is also a wide selection of sake on the menu, including rare ones, so sake lovers can also enjoy themselves. [Service] When I casually mentioned a question, they picked up on it and explained everything to me in a polite manner, which made me very happy. Personally, the pace at which the sushi was served was excellent, and it helped the conversation flow smoothly. Overall, everything exceeded my expectations and was truly amazing! The quality at this price point reflects the considerable effort of the company and the staff's strong desire to please their customers. Thank you for the wonderful meal. I would love to visit again.

I visited Sushi Uraonikai. The sushi ingredients were all fresh and each piece was truly delicious. The harmony between the vinegared rice and the toppings, especially with a hint of red vinegar, was exquisite and enjoyable in the mouth. You can feel the craftsmanship and dedication of the chef in the sushi, which is carefully made one by one. Moreover, the cost performance is excellent, and the satisfaction is high. It's great to be able to enjoy high-quality sushi at a reasonable price. The atmosphere of the restaurant is calm, and the staff warmly welcomed us. Sushi Uraonikai is definitely recommended as a place where you can enjoy delicious sushi at a reasonable price!

Nakameguro and Noge have a different atmosphere compared to each other. All places are lovely, but Nakameguro might be the best for a date. The atmosphere at Onikai in Hatchobori was retro-modern. Unlike other Onikai locations, they didn't have a menu. The mackerel and bonito were very delicious! We added a special dessert unique to Onikai, but we could have done without it. The new dish, "oinari-san," was tasty.

Hatchobori is a niche area. There are various shops, with one chef to about six customers. Starting all at the same time makes it cost-effective. Good. Everything is delicious, but the rice is slightly sweet and I prefer it a bit drier. Also, there are many unique items like squid, octopus, and conger eel, so it might be good to add more classic items. I came here to eat sushi after a long time. I've been thinking about this for a while, but I would like them to serve salmon at this kind of restaurant. The ingredients are clearly delicious, and I want them to add their skills to it. I've mentioned a lot, but there's no doubt that this is a good restaurant. I hope they will continue to maintain their cost-effectiveness in the future.

I visited a recommended yakitori restaurant for the first time, part of the Onikai group. I had the omakase course for 12,500 yen. The meal started with snap pea and sakura shrimp chawanmushi, followed by various sushi including tuna, cutlassfish, snapper, sardine, bonito, mackerel, cream cheese with smoked herring, and cherry trout. There was also simmered clams, squid with eggs, spring cabbage and potato salad, shrimp tempura, swordfish, golden eye snapper, medium fatty tuna, conger eel, pickled cucumber with egg, and a delicious egg omelette. While there wasn't anything particularly outstanding, everything was consistently delicious. I plan to visit the main branch in Naka-Meguro next time.

[Restaurant Review Translation] Hashtag: #Uraonikai / Hatchobori Price range: ¥13,000 Located a 3-minute walk from Hatchobori Station ⭐️ Food rating: 3.48 Ordered the chef's choice course. It consisted of 15 pieces of sushi and 3 small side dishes. The portion size was sufficient. The sushi included classic options like medium fatty tuna, sardines, and golden eye snapper, as well as unique items like shrimp tempura wrapped in seaweed, which is also served at their Michelin-starred sister restaurant, Miyashiro. I would like to try the wine pairing or off-menu items next time. They had the new administration, but it was sold out. Recommendation for solo dining: ★★☆ Reservations accepted for solo diners. If dining alone at a sushi counter, you may be seated at the end near the entrance (lower seat). Sushi is served starting from the higher seats, so you will receive your pieces last. Sushi Uraonikai, a restaurant supervised by Sushi Tsukiu Da, who has also been selected as one of the top 100 sushi restaurants, is a branch of Onikai-san. It serves as a platform for young chefs to showcase their skills and offers an entertaining sushi show. The restaurant is rapidly expanding with a total of five branches under the Onikai-san umbrella: Sushi Onikai (Nakameguro), Sushi Onikai Tasuichi (Nakameguro), Nogei no Onikai (Sakuragicho), Sushi Uraonikai (Hatchobori), and Asakusabashi Sushi Uraonikai (Asakusabashi). The name Onikai-san comes from the fact that the main store is located on the second floor of a tempura restaurant that has won the Michelin award for two consecutive years. I had the opportunity to visit Uraonikai in March, following my visit last February. The reservation process can be a bit challenging, but it is possible to book online, making it more accessible. Located just a 3-4 minute walk from Hatchobori Station, Uraonikai is situated in a back alley, hence its name. The restaurant, housed in a renovated traditional Japanese building, features two 6-seat counters, providing a more straightforward storefront compared to the main store. During this visit, I enjoyed the signature sake pairing at Uraonikai. The course mainly consisted of sushi with occasional small dishes. The course started with a hand-rolled sushi made of vinegared rice, followed by various sushi items. The highlight of the experience was the sushi show, which offered many photo opportunities. Overall, Uraonikai provides a fun and enjoyable sushi dining experience, with a variety of unique dishes and a lively atmosphere. I highly recommend it for both casual dining and special occasions.

Hatchobori "Sushi Uraonikai" is the third store I visited after the previous visit to Onikai in Nakameguro. It offers the best sushi with a great atmosphere and good value for money. The Uraonikai limited course includes 15 pieces of nigiri, 3 small dishes, and 1 secret menu item, totaling 19 items. The quality is amazing for the price of ¥12,500. Just like the Nakameguro store, I was impressed by the deliciousness and performance of the tuna and shrimp. #TokyoGourmet #GourmetClub #GourmetGuys #GourmetTour #FoodPorn #HatchoboriGourmet #WantToConnectWithGourmetLovers #PopularStore #GourmetInstagram #Instagrammable #Uraonikai #HighlyRatedOnTabelog #BestCostPerformance #SushiOnikai #NakameguroGourmet #Dinner

This is my fourth visit to this sushi restaurant, which I don't get to go to often, but I like to treat myself here when something good happens. The red vinegar rice pairs perfectly with the toppings, and the wine pairing is excellent. The oysters were particularly impressive this time. Tokyo's Hacchobori. This is the third store of the popular and hard-to-reserve restaurant group Onikai. On this day, I visited for a birthday party with two friends. The atmosphere was quite upscale, with a focus on the counter seating. The red vinegar rice was delicious! The omakase course was a winner, with carefully selected ingredients that allowed us to enjoy authentic Edomae sushi. The seared fatty tuna roll at the beginning really caught our attention. Every piece we tried was top-notch. However, the energy seemed to peak in the middle and then plateau. If you're mainly there for the sushi, the cost performance is quite good. I wish I had tried the limited edition menu item at the end... Still, the quality at this price point is impressive!

Ura Onikai is a restaurant affiliated with Sushi Onikai, supervised by Sushi Tsukiu Da. It is known for its interesting sushi show and is a great platform for young chefs to showcase their skills. The restaurant is located just a 3-4 minute walk from Hatchobori Station, in a renovated traditional Japanese building with two 6-seat counters. The head chef, Megu, has 8 years of experience in Japanese cuisine and brings a lot of passion to her sushi making. The restaurant offers a unique wine pairing experience, with a sommelier selecting wines to complement the sushi. The menu consists of mainly sushi with some appetizers sprinkled in. The sushi show is a highlight, with plenty of photo opportunities. Some recommended dishes include the smoked mackerel and the shrimp tempura hand roll. Overall, Ura Onikai is a great place to enjoy delicious sushi and have a fun dining experience.
