It's been a while since I wanted to go to Kushitori, so I came to the city center a little early before going to my usual izakaya! The restaurant opens at 4:30 pm, but especially on weekends, there are usually about 7 customers waiting around 5 pm! It's 4:25 pm and there are already 7 customers waiting even though it's 5 minutes before opening. (The entrance is open, so customers enter and wait in line on the chairs near the entrance.) I got seated at 4:30 pm. Afterwards, the seats quickly filled up. Until 7 pm, highballs and sours are 158 yen each (excluding tax), so I ordered a "Kaku Highball" (158 yen until 7 pm, 318 yen after that). The usual grated radish and chicken soup (which is delicious and I always get seconds) were placed on the table! I was thinking about what skewers to eat, and the staff showed me a different menu saying, "We are currently offering a Hormone tasting set!" It's 121 yen for one skewer, but a set of 5 is 560 yen, which is a good deal! Looking at the photos, they all looked delicious, so I ordered the "Hormone Tasting Set" (560 yen)! While waiting, I also ordered the "Cucumber Pickles" (243 yen), which came out quickly! I drank up the Kaku Highball while enjoying the reliable taste of the pickles. Usually, I start with a beer followed by sake or shochu on the rocks, so highballs are light for me. But who cares about drinking cheaply, right? (laughs) When I asked the staff, they said the "Strong Kaku Highball" is 215 yen until 7 pm. Maybe the "strong" flavor will make me feel satisfied? I ordered the "Strong Kaku Highball" (215 yen until 7 pm, 420 yen after that). This one has a satisfying intensity (laughs). The "Hormone Tasting Set" looks nicely grilled. There are 5 skewers: salt, miso, spicy kimchi, stamina, and spicy sansho pepper. The texture is softer than I expected (although maybe "soft" is not the right word for hormones). The simple salt and miso ones are delicious, and the spicy kimchi and sansho pepper ones are great for spice lovers. The garlic-heavy "stamina" skewer was also tasty. I finished all 5 skewers in no time. I also like tsukune, so I added "Tsukune Umejiso" and "Tsukune Cheese" (each 131 yen). Maybe two highballs are enough? But when I saw the customer across from me ordering "doburoku," it looked delicious... So I ordered the "Doburoku (Mokkiri)" (206 yen). The staff poured it generously! It's so delicious! After eating and drinking all that, the total was 1,805 yen. Sometimes, having Kushitori and drinks is a good time! Early hours are a good deal!
