In August 2019, I visited "Minato Shokudo" located in Shoya, near the Erimo town fishing port. This place seems to have been around for a long time, but surprisingly there are no reviews about it. I heard from locals that the previous female owner, who was the mother of the current owner, passed away 7 years ago. The current owner, a 77-year-old lady, took over the restaurant 5 years ago after it was closed for 2 years. The restaurant is open irregularly, with the curtain often hanging during lunchtime in the summer, but I'm not sure about the winter schedule. I was curious about the ramen here, and luckily the curtain was hanging this time, so I went in without hesitation. There were no other customers inside. I ordered the Chashu Men for 700 yen. The ramen here is only available in soy sauce flavor, but I heard that they can accommodate salt flavor upon request. The noodles here are probably from Nishiyama, a brand often seen in supermarkets. It took more than 10 minutes for the ramen to be ready, and when it arrived, it came with rice, cold tofu, and pickles on a tray. I asked if the ramen always comes with rice, and the owner said, "Feel free to eat it." First of all, the appearance was impressive, as the pork belly chashu covered the bowl completely. The ratio of fat to lean meat in the chashu seemed to be around 7:3 or 8:2. The flavor of the fat was prominent due to the subtle seasoning. The soup looked thick, but it wasn't as intense as expected, with a hint of sweetness possibly from the chashu broth. It was surprisingly good, with a moderate amount of lard used. The only topping was chashu. Erimo's famous ramen used to be from "Hyakuban," but this unexpected contender might be worth a try.
