Shopping at Aeon Mall Asahikawa Station~♪ There are many stores here that we don't have in my hometown, so I tend to loosen my wallet a bit. I pay for everything with my credit card though. At "MUJI Aeon Mall Asahikawa Station Store", I bought several curries for home stock. (I've eaten quite a bit, so there are fewer left in the picture.) MUJI's curry is really delicious. Depending on the type, I think it's a quality that you wouldn't even notice if it was served at a curry restaurant. My personal ranking is something like this: 1st place "Green", 2nd place "Butter Chicken", 3rd place "Yellow". There are many varieties, so I haven't tried them all, but they are all delicious curries that don't taste like retort food. "Green" costs 350 yen. The chili mark, which is an indicator of spiciness, is "5" for very spicy. It has a herb aroma. It's spicy, but the coconut milk makes it mellow. It has chicken, bamboo shoots, and shiitake mushrooms as ingredients. The ingredients have a strong presence. It's still spicy, but I can't resist it. I also stocked up on pasta sauces and snacks for work. "MUJI" please come to Eastern Hokkaido. (*´∀`*)

"IKEA" Asahikawa, the two of us had lunch. My wife said she wants to go to "Aeon" to buy autumn clothes. I decided to go along because I also wanted to buy some clothes. Even though I didn't think about it, I realized that there was a "MUJI" store there. I had never associated it with food reviews, but reading someone's review made me realize that there was a MUJI store. We decided to check it out. I thought about getting curry, but my wife gave me a look that said, "How many do you think we have at home?" So, I ended up not getting curry. Instead, I found some orange dried fruits, which we both like. I bought them. Then I spotted a package of pilaf. My wife asked, "Does it come with rice?" I thought it was a strange question, but I realized that the rice wasn't included in the package. My wife tried to stop me from getting it, saying we can make it at home, but I caught it anyway. I thought it would be nice to have oranges because we both like orange peels. My wife tried it first and said it was delicious, so I made it into a bento for the next day. It turned out to be a tasty pilaf, but it lacked a bit of character. It was too refined for a bento, in my opinion. I felt it needed more richness and flavor. Overall, it was good, but it could use some improvements.

Today is Crab Day. It was established in 1990 by "Kani Doraku". There are two reasons why today is the day. The first reason is that the "ka" in crab is the 6th character in the Japanese syllabary, and the "ni" is the 22nd character. The "ka" and "ni" in crab correspond to 6 and 22 in the syllabary, respectively, which is one of the origins of Crab Day. The other reason is that June 22 is the first day of the Cancer zodiac sign. Muji Asahikawa Station front AEON's Muji is reopening with shortened hours. Muji recently partnered with Lawson, so we might see Muji products in convenience stores soon. Dozens of retort pouches Muji's retort pouches are really delicious. I've had their curry several times before, and it's really tasty. ⇒ I introduced the taste of retort curry over 3 days. I'm not a fan of the taste of retort food, but Muji's curry doesn't have that smell and is really delicious. I love Muji's curry. But this time, I bought... Yukgaejang Korean cuisine's famous Yukgaejang. Yukgaejang is usually served as a soup and kuppabap at barbecue restaurants. But this one is Yukgaejang to pour over rice. So, it's not for soup. Of course, you can eat it that way, but... Yukgaejang instructions First, it's free of chemical seasonings, synthetic colorings, and fragrances. So, it's made from natural ingredients. The cooking methods are heating it in the microwave or with hot water. So I chose... hot water. I prefer the old-fashioned method. I think this style suits retort food. Opening the package I let it soak in hot water for a while. The Yukgaejang looks even redder now. When I cut open the package, there's a strong smell... of red pepper. But it smells delicious... with the taste of vegetables and more. Pouring it over rice Yukgaejang to pour over rice. So, I poured it over rice. Maybe I put too much rice? Or is there too little soup? There's more white rice than usual. But... there are plenty of ingredients, making it a truly authentic Yukgaejang. Now, how does it taste... Oh no... they did it!! This one is also delicious. The taste of the meat and vegetables comes out well in the soup, full of flavor. This really tastes like it could be served at a restaurant. But!!! It's incredibly spicy!! Oh man, it's too spicy. I can't eat all of this spiciness. This is really spicy. I didn't expect it to be this spicy... Curry usually has a spiciness level marked with red peppers, but this one didn't have that. The taste is delicious... but... I wish they had toned down the spiciness a bit. If you like spicy food, definitely give it a try. I was interested in Thai curry, but hesitated because it contains ingredients that I don't like. However, I found out that a new type of curry was released this month, different from green, red, and yellow curry, so I decided to buy it. The product is called "Curry Geranpa (Forest Curry)" and it costs 350 yen including tax. It doesn't contain coconut, which I don't like, but it is still a curry from the northeastern region of Thailand. I heard from someone who seems to be an expert in retort pouches that heating it up by boiling water is much tastier than microwaving, so I tried warming it up that way. After taking a bite... it was really salty!!! But then, the aroma of spices and lemongrass came through. The spiciness is not too strong, maybe around medium spicy. The curry has small pieces of chicken and various ingredients reminiscent of mountain delicacies. I think the base flavor is good, but it might have been too salty, with a strong punch. After finishing it, I realized... I shouldn't have eaten it because I'm currently on a doctor's orders to avoid spicy and stimulating foods.

Established in December 1980 as a private brand of Seiyu Ltd., this company started with 40 items. In 1989, it became independent from Seiyu and now handles planning, development, manufacturing, distribution, and sales. They are strategically located in large commercial facilities nationwide. This particular store is a tenant in AEON Mall Asahikawa Station, directly connected to JR Asahikawa Station. The store is located on the first floor of the mall. On April 4, 2020, at 10:30 AM, during a trip, one concern was the quality of the tea bags provided in the accommodation. To address this at an affordable price, the first solution was to purchase tea bags from MUJI. A review was also posted on Tabelog. With only a few minutes left before the train departure, a Jasmine tea from China was found for 390 yen. It turned out to be more authentic and delicious than expected, with a good balance of flavor and bitterness. This was a great find and will be used again in the future.

Speaking of bright things... curry! The second round of the curry showdown started yesterday. I compared three different types of curry. MUJI has over 70 types of curry, but I wonder if all of them are available in stores. I selected these three from the around 10 types available in Asahikawa. I won't go as far as buying them online though. Today, let's see where this one ranks. If the photos look delicious, please press the "↓" button! Today's curry is the Spinach Chicken Curry for 490 yen. The name includes spinach and chicken, but just hearing "Spinach Chicken" might not be clear to everyone. But for those who love it, like me, it's a familiar name. The curry uses three types of greens - spinach, kale, and komatsuna - to bring depth to the flavor. It's a spicy Indian curry stewed with chicken. The color is a deep green, similar to what I usually eat. The taste is rich and you can really feel the greens. The slight sourness might be from the komatsuna. Overall, it's a good curry that goes well with rice. The chicken is flavorful and the color and consistency are just right. It's a different experience eating it with rice instead of naan, but it still tastes great. Personally, I prefer it with naan, but rice is a nice change. Enjoyed every bite.

I am in Asahikawa. Today, I am at AEON Asahikawa Station again. There was a MUJI near the entrance, so I went in. Usually, I buy either instant noodles, retort rice with toppings, or retort curry. I might buy them in that order. I always stop by when I see a MUJI, I have been to about 20 of them. This time, I bought two types of retort curry. The curry types are "Curry that brings out the flavor of the ingredients - Butter Chicken (350 yen)" and "Curry that brings out the flavor of the ingredients - Massaman (350 yen)". I immediately tried the Butter Chicken. This time, I added chicken karaage. It was a way to make use of the leftovers from the night before, but it was delicious. It was even more delicious than just the chicken karaage, and more delicious than just the MUJI Butter Chicken. It's like a win-win, or 1+1=3. I sometimes see blogs criticizing MUJI's Butter Chicken. I always wonder, if they don't find it delicious, why don't they try to make it delicious themselves? Is it a confession of not knowing the basics of cooking? Sometimes, I think I want to eat this Butter Chicken with freshly baked naan. Let's try it with frozen paratha from the business supermarket next time. (#6484)
