The timing was right, so I got takeout from the restaurant called "Sumi Yakitori Tariki Hongan Obihiro Store". The location used to be a restaurant called Mankatei. When I happened to be nearby in late August, I checked the opening day. The menu only offers the specialty "Chicken Thigh with Salt and Pepper" for 150 yen per skewer. I called ahead to specify the time and number of skewers, then went to pick them up. When I arrived, they were grilling the skewers right in front of the store with charcoal. They mentioned that they had just opened, so they would start grilling inside the store soon. After I picked up my order, I prepared some side dishes and ate the skewers about 50 minutes later. The pieces were huge, about the size of two or three regular skewers combined, giving a satisfying bite. My companion immediately noticed the strong aroma of salt and pepper when they took a bite. The seasoning was just right to pair with beer, with a generous amount of pepper. The onion in between was crunchy and the meat was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Yakitori is best enjoyed when reheated in a toaster just before eating, to capture the freshly grilled flavor. The restaurant is popular for selling at supermarkets and local events without having a physical store, but this is their second store after the main store in Fukagawa City. Since it's a new opening, it's recommended to call ahead even right before going. Keep an eye on their social media for updates. Thank you for the delicious meal!
