A friend came from Tokyo. They came to look for a souvenir that represents Asahikawa at the roadside station. Somehow, I think this place has the best selection of Asahikawa souvenirs. In the past, I used to go to the basement of Seibu Department Store to buy souvenirs. But now, there is no trace of it left. So, the roadside station. Asahikawa souvenirs are quite well stocked here, so even the locals are sometimes surprised to find something new. Beyond that is the food court, which currently only has 4 stores open, which is a bit sad. The impact of the coronavirus is also being felt here.
In the midst of this, I recently tried the new Otaru Ankake Yakisoba shop. Personally, it was so delicious that I want to go back again. I have also uploaded a video, so please check that out as well.
Established in 1968, Asahikawa is known for soy sauce ramen, but this shop has been serving miso ramen as its main dish, which has been loved by the locals for a long time. Even though I haven't had their taste for quite some time, there were several shops that were branches of this place, but now there are only the main store, the Kanko store, and this one. The last time I went was in 2011 to the store that was called Yoshino → Miyabi → and then closed down. The time before that was at the main store in 2008. It's been 11 years since then, or rather, 14 years since I last had the taste of the main store. It's been a long time since I went to Asahikawa.
When it comes to Yoshino, the only choice for me is miso. Well, that's just my preference. Looking at the menu, there are also soy sauce and salt options. Furthermore, there are versions with vegetables and without vegetables. I prefer miso with vegetables! So, I decided to go with the miso ramen with vegetables for 850 yen. So, I spilled some of the soup on the way to the food court seating because it was filled to the brim. Luckily, there was a tray. The vegetables included bean sprouts and green onions. That's it. Well, even though it's called vegetables, it's just this amount. If you don't want vegetables, there is a version with extra pork instead.
In addition, there was plenty of menma (seasoned bamboo shoots). Oh, the taste of the miso soup was quite strong. It had a strong and punchy flavor with a rich traditional miso taste. The noodles were medium-thin and had a low moisture content. They were slightly curly, but not completely. The strong miso flavor made it enjoyable even with thin noodles. However, personally, I felt like trying it with chewy medium-thick noodles.
And... it was spicy in the end. Quite spicy. After leaving the roadside station, getting in the car, my mouth was tingling for a while. It might not feel that spicy to most people, but I realized that I am weak when it comes to spiciness. However, it was delicious, so I thought I might visit the main store again after a long time. Thank you for the meal. ⇒ ◇I'm happy that I could eat the strong miso flavor◇
